Ankarlo Audio: Thu Oct 25, 2007

The wildfires are already becoming political. Senators Harry Reid and Barbara Boxer have their opinions. Wolf Blitzer has his. California’s Lt. Gov. must also get in on the act all while people’s homes are still burning down. Ankarlo reacts.
Sgt. Tom Lovejoy talks to Darrell today about his ordeal. He has used it for some good though having created a new device that will alert anyone having left an animal in the car. Sgt. Lovejoy will go on trial in January for killing his police dog, Bandit. Sgt. Lovejoy’s wife, Carolyn takes issue with their address being made public right after the tragedy happens. And why not? Her husband is a police officer and has every right to remain private just as County Attorney Andrew Thomas and Sheriff Joe Arpaio do.
In the final hour of the show, Ankarlo is outraged because two teenagers have been convicted of sex crimes. She was 16 at the time and her boyfriend was 17. They decided to take naked pictures of themselves and email them to each other. Somehow they got busted and charged with child porn and have also had to register as sex offenders. Also, check out the call from Paul. His son was convicted of a sex crime when was 18 and his life has never been the same.

    Darrell,
Sgt. Lovejoy sounds like a good man and an excellent public servent. It’s not that his mistake is not forgiveable it is that Sheriff joe is a punks punk with a badge and could care less about the human factor in the equation- not when it comes to political grand standing. Hey and make no mistake Joe would do the same thing to you or me.

    Darrell,
Sex crimes, I can think of nothing in society that could cause more pain or suffering. I do think we as a community need to reavaluate what constitutes a “SEX CRIME”. Public uranation all the way to rape. This system can not be used as a catch all for a way of generating lists of names for life time punishments to be unfairly handed out. After hearing that guy break down on the radio today I’m beginning to change my view. Do not miss understand me if a person violates a child sexually, we as a community should have the right to end their life.

Twenty-four hours after your show Thursday I am still haunted by the miscarriage of justice for Paul’s “sex-offender” son.

What he describes could happen to anyone with children – you or me included — no matter how vigilant we think we are as parents.

No sentence is harsh enough for sex-offender adults who prey on children. But an 18 year old being stuck on the sex-offender list for life for fully-clothed dancing with a 14 year old?

Will anyone from the Mesa Police Department or the County Attorney’s office be willing to come on your show to explain how this boy’s sentence keeps our streets safer? How did this become a police matter in the first place?

Paul might want to challenge the sentence as cruel and unusual punishment — witness the Georgia Supreme Court’s ruling today that Genarlow Wilson’s sentence was cruel and unusual.

Where are our civil libertarians? Where is the outrage? Are we so afraid of appearing soft on child sex crimes that we can’t help this family correct such a grave miscarriage of justice?
