Ankarlo: Wed Dec 12, 2007

It’s Christmas time, but you would never know it. Ankarlo was listening to a radio station playing Christmas music for an hour and a half last night and only heard one song about Jesus. After all, Christmas is about the birth of Jesus isn’t it?

That leads Ankarlo into another discussion. Our American society is going into a tailspin right in front of our eyes. We seriously have discussions about how great of a parents Snoop Dogg can be. Snoop Dogg was a member of the notorious Cripp gang in Los Angeles. He smokes a ton of marijuana and is heavily involved in the porn industry. How can this make him a good dad? Locally, a couple of parents left their children home alone with their drugs. The meth and cocaine were literally within their reach. Are they good parents too? After all, they just left the drugs there. They weren’t smoking it in front of the kids.

Today’s Holiday Heroes segment, Ankarlo invited Curtis Smith to join him. Curtis has worked in our promotions department for the past year and has decided to join the Marine Corp. At 22, he says it wasn’t an easy decision, but one he felt was the right one. Curtis has been moved by all who have told him thank you. Sounds like he is really going to be a true Marine. Ankarlo will check in with him from time to time as he moves through his boot camp, so this won’t be the last time we hear from Curtis.

In the ten o’clock hour, Ankarlo talks about high school football. Several parents from Sandra Day O’Connor high school in Glendale are ticked off at their football coach’s techniques. We can all admit that coaches are supposed to be mentors. Coach Rick Mey though seems to be abusing this privilege. He swears at his players to motivate them. He allegedly embarrasses them by saying they played like (expletives) and refers to them by derogatory names. But, isn’t that what we expect in a football locker room? Though, on the other hand it is still a taxpayer funded school. Should football get a free pass because these acts certainly wouldn’t be permitted if English teachers did this? Ankarlo talks to one of the parents involved trying to get Coach Mey fired.

The final hour, Ankarlo once again visits the immigration issue. Creative Business Resources President Aaron Witsoe explains how businesses can comply with the Arizona Employer Sanctions Law. He has set up a website to help human resources departments. Ankarlo also chats with Senior partner at Ballard Spahr, Lou Moffa about their second lawsuit filed again the Employer Sanctions Law. Also, Ballard Spahr has accused Sheriff Joe of asking a waitress about her immigration status because she has “olive skin.” Ankarlo asks Sheriff Joe if this is true. The Sheriff says of course not.
