Ankarlo: Tue Dec 11, 2007

Is waterboarding torture? Several politicians have spoken out against the practice with stimulated drowning. Sen. John McCain hates the idea that we even do it. Sen. Harry Reid says there is no doubt waterboarding is torture. Others are on record. Some are still mum. But, according to the Washington Post, several lawmakers were briefed on the technique as far back as 2002. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was part of that group. What does she think of waterboarding? She has been very quiet…

Here is the other million dollar question: Should the U.S. engage in waterboarding if it would prevent a terrorist attack or save American lives? What would you do then?

The Employer Sanctions Bill now faces another lawsuit. This times, the business coalitions are suing the County Attorneys. Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas joins Ankarlo this morning to talk about the lawsuit. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon talks with Ankarlo about Pruitt’s Furniture Protest. The Mayor would like to act as a mediator to see if the Sensings at Pruitt’s and Salvador Reza will come together.

Today’s Holiday Hero is Maria Miller. Her son, Mykel, was killed in Afghanistan back in September. We invited Mrs. Miller to join Ankarlo today to tell her son’s story. Who was Mykel Miller? He was the guy everyone loved. He was full of life and his mom says he was a wise guy. The Ahwatukee News wrote a great story on him after his death. Read it here. I was especially moved by his entertaining a bunch of Afghani children with an Etch-A-Sketch. Mykel Miller was only 19. I encourage you to listen to this interview in today’s podcast.

In the final hour, Darrell talks about Jeanna Assam. She is the security guard that killed a gunman outside of her Church. Ankarlo also talks with KTAR’s Jim Cross. He is out watching the DUI offenders clean up litter while wearing pink shirts.

Ankarlo: Mon Nov 26, 2007

Ankarlo is back in studio today and comes back without skipping a beat.

Over the weekend, the New York Times ran a piece about the Iraq War.  The title of the article is, As Democrats See Security Gains in Iraq, Tone Shifts.  Wait, this was in the New York Times?  This surprises me for a couple of reasons.  One, the Times is admitting there is good news out of Iraq and second, it is acknowledging the Democrats “evolving” positions.  Remember when they hit President George W. Bush with those some charges several months ago?  Darrell takes this on today on Ankarlo Mornings and also manages to praise Sen. John McCain’s continued support of the Iraq War.

In Suprise, a tennis teacher has been fired because he was looking at inappropriate websites.  Geoff Mena says this isn’t accurate.  See, Mena used to work in the adult entertainment industry and even appeared in a couple movies.  He fully disclosed when he was interviewing for his job in Suprise.  Mena has also said his face can’t be seen in any adult movies, but he did website development for several adult and non-adult companies.  He also says he was showing another co-worker some of his website development “code” and was fired for this.  Mena says he never looked at any nude images or showed another worker them.  He was merely showing a co-worker how he set up a couple websites.  Ankarlo says Mena was given a raw deal.

Over the weekend, counter protestors showed up outside Pruitt’s Furniture to help them ward off the “immigration rights” protestors.  Darrell talkes to Mike Sensing from Pruitt’s and also talks to Stacey O’Connell from the Patriots Border Alliance.  Both say, they are trying to protect the business at Pruitt’s.

In the final hours, Darrell slams several British women for saying they aren’t going to have kids because they are eco-friendly.  So when did eco-friendly become anti-kid?  The women says kids only consume more of our limited resources.  Oh boy.

Also, Darrell talks to Col. Randall Larsen, author of Our Own Worst Enemy about the security changes at Fort Huachuca.  FBI documents say terrorists from Iraq and Afghanistan were going to pay Mexican drug dealers $20,000 to sneak them across the border with weapons.  The weapons included high powered rifles, anti-tank weapons and rocket propelled grenades.  It’s just a reminder that there are still those who want to kill us.

So the University of Arizona student newspaper runs a cartoon offensive to Jews.  And it just might be the worst cartoon ever written.  See for yourself here, http://ktar.com/?sid=617254&nid=336.  But, what is it with today’s college kids?  Are they just completely insensitive or what?  There seems to be a massive culture divide between generations.  Also on the show today, Darrell asks which album or movie you would pay extra for.  Radiohead is letting people chose how much to pay for their album.  Darrell also addresses the Blackwater situation in Iraq.

Calderon: America is no longer the center of the world

Monday, October 8, 2007:  Mexican President Felipe Calderon says America is no longer the center of the world.  Darrell takes this on.  What is happening to us?  Are we still the same country we used to be?  In the final hour of the show, Darrell welcomes Jerry Wertz from Packages From Home.  They send 1,000 care packages to the troops per week.  But, the Governor has pulled their state funding and now they are relying soley on donations.  If you can help, please go to http://packagesfromhome.org/.  Every little bit helps.

Time to open a dialog with Muslims?

Thursday, September 27, 2007:  Have you heard the commercial called Why Islam on FM News Talk 92.3 yet?  Darrell heard it and wonders what it is all about.  It is a group of Muslims ready to talk about Islam?  Or is something else at play here?  Also today, some lawmakers (Democrats) are floating the idea of raising the gasoline tax.  They will do it to save the planet of course in true Al Gore fashion.  However, these are the same Democrats that cry about the high gas prices and their effect on “working American families.”  An interesting debacle.  Did you know, that in Arizona you could punch a co-worker hurt yourself and still get worker’s compensation?  It’s just too good to make up.  And in the final hour of the show, Darrell talks about the Clinton Mafia and AWOL soldiers being held in Sheriff Joe’s tent city.
