Wolf’s Chalkboard Chat - 12/1

Welcome! You have entered [Sports 620 KTAR] at 9:12 am
[WOLF] 9:13 am: What sayeth thou, Basinonians?
[amacc] 9:14 am: morning wolf
[b8i1gjim9@cox.net] 9:14 am: hi RON, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT
THE BAD REFEREE CALLS?
[twselectricjim] 9:14 am: Real nice to be back at work after the holiday
weekend.
[b8i1gjim9@cox.net] 9:14 am: IN THE NBA
[WOLF] 9:14 am: What was the most disappointing thing about the
Cards loss on Thanksgiving?

[dodgedan] 9:14 am: What do you think are ASU chanes of beatting UA
[Jericho] 9:15 am: Hey, Wolf.  Any idea what is wrong with the Video of
the Day Trivia?  It hasn’t worked the last couple days.  Any other Krunk
brothers have any problems?  BTW, the Cards loss WAS disappointing.
[b8i1gjim9@cox.net] 9:15 am: IS THIS A FOOTBALL CHAT?
[aznailer] 9:15 am: feels like here we go again
[amacc] 9:15 am: Wolf I have a question for you what are your thoughts
that Whiz didn’t put Matt into the game 5 min left 28 pts down.
[twselectricjim] 9:15 am: It just didn’t look like they showed up in a
situation were they could showcase the team.
[Dino S] 9:15 am: Two questions Wolfie:
[Dino S] 9:16 am: 1.) Why is WHiz hesitant to put Matt in the game
when the Cards have pretty much no chance and 2.) How much practice
time does Matt get with the 1st team, if any?
[Jericho] 9:16 am: I was really hoping the Cards would clinch the
division on Thanksgiving.  That would have been one of the earliest
dates a team clinched I would guess.
[WOLF] 9:17 am: Honestly, I’m not too concerned with the loss.
This team is in transition. They are in the process of becoming a
winning team. Two-steps forward, one-step back.

[aznailer] 9:17 am: still need some parts of the puzzle
[aznailer] 9:17 am: but getting better
[amacc] 9:18 am: I thought that the worst part of the that it looked like
they didn’t show up for the game.  I knew it would be a tough game and
thought it would be a losebecause of the varible but they showed for the
Giants not the Eagles
[WOLF] 9:18 am: I don’t know why Coach Whiz hasn’t given Matt
more reps but I’m sure he has his reasons. If there is one thing
I’ve learned about coach, it’s that he doesn’t do anything

happenstance.
[ndarus] 9:19 am: hi wolf
[Jericho] 9:19 am: Whiz is a good coach who makes sound decisions.
I am looking forward to his development over the next few years.  As he
develops and the team develops they should be a force to reckon with,
as long as they keep their core players.
[WOLF] 9:20 am: They got beat physically. That was the worst part
for me. They played - physically - so well against the Giants and I
thought they might have learned what it takes to play against
good teams. The…Philly happened.

[amacc] 9:20 am: Do you think that all the pass blocking the OLINE
does hurts  their run blocking?  Kurt hasn’t been sacked the last 2
games and the run has been horrible
[WOLF] 9:21 am: I think it can hurt an OL. If you don’t have
success doing something, don’t you get concerned and shy away
from things you don’t do well?

[amacc] 9:21 am: Wolf I am a big dork and am already checking out
mock drafts online, I see them saying the Cards take Alex
[twselectricjim] 9:21 am: This game was their chance to show they
could play on the road against good teams back east.  Now they still
have New England.  I think it shows we can start looking to next year.
This year was too much to ask for.
[amacc] 9:22 am: sorry Alex Mack center from CAL what do you think?
[hulloa] 9:22 am: This team needs to abandon the running game. It
doesn’t work. They need to resort to short quick passes and screens to
try to balance the deep pass.
[Dino S] 9:22 am: To your knowledge, how much time, if any, does Matt
get with the first team in practice?
[ultimateredondo@hotmail.com] 9:23 am: I think the issue with the run
game is that they give up on it so quickly.  The ball is ran one or twice
in a couple of series and as soon is they realize it is not working they
immediately go to pass for very long periods.  This is a trend the
Cardinals continue to throw out there and defenses are starting to pay
attention. The ball needs to be ran much more consistently out of the
I-formation right up with gut with Hightower and Edge. The delay out of
the shotgun has to stop!
[WOLF] 9:23 am: The Cards need to win their division, host a
first-round playoff game and move to the second-round in order
to have a real impact on next season. But I don’t think losing in
the post-season isn’t a great year for this team; it is.

[WOLF] 9:24 am: Matt gets about 10-15% of the reps with the
first-team throughout the week.

[twselectricjim] 9:24 am: Compared to the history of the team I think it
would be a great year, but 2 weeks ago before the Giants and the
Eagles I was hoping for more.
[amacc] 9:25 am: I agree but this game is about overcoming their
fralities for 60 minutes and being Gods decended from Mt. Olympus.  I
love the OLINE and belive in them and Coach Grimm I want to see more
balance, but I don’t believe the game with Kurt at QB can be balanced
what do you think?
[twselectricjim] 9:26 am: Remember St. Louis?
[WOLF] 9:26 am: We all were, my friend. But winning often comes
in increments. The first-year they went 8-8; going 10-6 and
winning your division, hosting a first-round playoff game, would
be a natural progression, don’t you think?

[twselectricjim] 9:27 am: Yes, but in the bloodsport things can happen
quickly.  Sometimes you need to push the progression quickly or you
get left behind without even realizing it.
[amacc] 9:29 am: I still believe that we win 3 of the next four and maybe
NE tough and Peterson is a beast look at the Bears game, 9-7 definetily
10-6 probably 11-5 maybe.  Reguardless I am proud of the team and the
coaching staff.
[WOLF] 9:29 am: Has anyone here ever shied away from
greatness? Have you ever had an opportunity to “go big” and
sabotaged yourself or ignored the opportunity? Just wondering…

[amacc] 9:29 am: yes
[amacc] 9:31 am: That is why I did not play football in high school and
kick myself in the head over it everyday
[WOLF] 9:32 am: There is great responsibility that comes with
being great. Sometimes, it’s easier to eschew success and know
why you failed than it is to put your heart and soul into something
and not know why you failed, isn’t it?

[cardsbeatrams] 9:33 am: Agree 100%.
[WOLF] 9:34 am: My firends, your honesty is heart-warming.
[amacc] 9:34 am: you said it wolf, should have been an english lit major
[cardsbeatrams] 9:35 am: With the month of December do we establish
a run game or do what we do and go into January hoping that gets the
job done.
[WOLF] 9:35 am: I believe the Cards are BECOMING a winning
team. They are in the process of making the transition, changing
the culture, if you will. They need to embrace greatness, set the
bar high and go after it with conviction.

[Jericho] 9:37 am: I think it helps knowing week-in and week-out who
the starting quarterback is.  The team has an identity.
[WOLF] 9:38 am: I think the Cards are-what-they-are at this point
in the season. One of the many things I respect from Coach Whiz
is he isn’t going to commit philosophical sepaku. He wants to be
a run-first team but knows that he doesn’t have the personnel to
do so. Therefore, he adjusts his philosophy to win games.
Hoo-haw.

[amacc] 9:38 am: This year is for building still, next year will be the
breakout for them and we will be there to see it live.  I am excited for
what this team is doing and sad that I might not be able to aford my
playoff seats, but i will have tickets again next year
[twselectricjim] 9:38 am: I like the culture change aspect.  Coaching
staff, players, stadium, and fans have all been adapting to the new look
Cardinals.  It is definitely hard after the last 20 years, though.
[ultimateredondo@hotmail.com] 9:38 am: You’re right…we are
progressing.  But in an era where win now is in such high demand,
passing the ball a majority of the time isn’t going to get it done.  Even
the great teams know this.  The greats like New England, Pittsburgh
may not have consistent 100 yard runners but as long as those runners
are picking up 1st downs, the defense is going to play honest.  We
need to have a running game or the playoffs will be one and done.
[Jericho] 9:39 am: I think the problem in Green Bay is that with Favre
gone the team no longer has an identity and they are struggling to find
it.  The Cards now identify with Warner as their leader.
[WOLF] 9:40 am: It is time for me to shut it down, my friends. I’ll
see you here next week. God Bless!

[cardsbeatrams] 9:40 am: Always love a coach that adjusts to win
games with what he has… no point in forcing something that won’t work.
Ask Rich Rodriguez…
[amacc] 9:40 am: But if Kurt is gone I think they will identify with Matt
[twselectricjim] 9:40 am: Take care
[Jericho] 9:40 am: Have a great week!
[cardsbeatrams] 9:40 am: Sounds good. We’ll see you in TUCSON.
[amacc] 9:40 am: have a great day wolf
[Jericho] 9:41 am: True, amacc.  But for now they identify with Kurt.  It
is tougher when there are rotating quarterbacks.

What is the word of the day today I got up late after the suns loss last night and have been sleeping a lot since they have not had a win. Any suggestions on how to cheer me up with a dreadful week in sports?

Ron — I have come to appreciate your comments on this board. However, this particular one, you made several extraordinary points in my humble opinion, that apply to all walks of life about “greatness.” Brilliant insights Wolf! keep up the good work.
