Doug: D’Antoni Call Outs

Who’s at fault for the Suns struggles?

Or are they even struggling?

Mike D’Antoni continues to blast his own team and fans for showing a lack of intensity. Last night (11-27) on 620 SportsLine, Coach told Dave Burns that the Suns’ team two years ago treated every game like it was Christmas morning and this team doesn’t have consistent energy.

The team is fighting the malaise of his team and its fans. But the team is 11-3 going into tonight’s game against Houston and they would have struggled against Golden State no matter how enthusiastic they played.

Some teams are just bad match-ups.

I think Denver, Atlanta, and the Warriors are all difficult games for Phoenix because of they’re as athletic as the Suns, but they’re longer and stronger, so is he kidding? I think he sees a problem and is calling it out now.

I support him completely.

I think he’s had enough time to reflect on last year’s postseason to realize one thing: What’s the Game 1 excuse? Sure we all know it’s blowout the Sterns Game 2, Donaughy Game 3, show ‘em up in 4, suspensions in 5, and being exhausted and on the road in 6.

Yet what happened in game one?

I don’t want to hear about Nash’s nose either because his bloody nose cost the Suns the chance for Nash to bail them out from their lack of fire. If the team would have played Game 1 like they did in Game 2, we’d all remember where we stood during the championship parade. The Suns lost Game 1 against the Sterns because they figured they’d be fine and they weren’t.

I think D’Antoni needs to use his bench more. I think D’Antoni needs to realize how easily it will be for this team to tune him out. I think D’Antoni needs to use his subs to punish the people that aren’t getting the message. I think he can’t really play this card when the playoffs get closer. There are quite a few things I’d like to see and I think D’Antoni is laying the ground work to move in those directions.

Only D’Antoni knows what should be expected from this team. If he’s not satisfied with being 11-3, why should we?

I agree that the Suns need to play with more energy. They have to find a trigger to get that energy going. It is not in the records because they have broken so many. There are only two records to break with one being the regular season wins (which I consider not that big of a goal) and the championship. The motivation of everyone saying they cannot do it I think is old hat. So what D’Antoni did was call out his team. I think it is up to Nash, Marion, and Stoudamire to get the team going because they are the captians of the team. I think that it is a part of their job and would promote it at a team level for better chemistry. One thing that could be motivation would be I am tired of hearing from everyone who critizes us and I just want to play as much as I can and do my best at playing basketball. It is a mystery but I know they can find it.
