Doug: Suns don’t want to be a title contender

Our webmaster has asked us to answer the question, “How do the Suns stack up against the teams of the Western Conference?”

That is an impossible question to answer.

The Suns are the second best team in the NBA if they want to be - I think the Celtics are for real, despite losing to Detroit. The problem is, they don’t want to be.

Why does everyone in this town give the Suns a pass? They’ve won just as many championships as the Arizona Cardinals have.

If you come out flat against Minnesota in your fifth game in seven days and on the the back end of road back-to-backs, I’m fine with that. I completely understand. You can’t justify a 37-20 first quarter against a title contender.

The Cardinals lead the league in penalties and some people think that exposes Ken Whisenhunt as a hypocrite, yet no one dare challenges the Suns coaching or lack of fire.

I want the Suns to win a championship. I think the Suns are the best team in the Western Conference. The problem is they want to coast and then turn it on at the end.

Your desire to win is not something that can turn on and off in a champion. Sometimes there’s a difference between being the best and being World Champions.
