My Beloved Ohio University

If had a chance to listen to the Crunk List today, I owe you something.

If you have no idea what the “Crunk List” is, here’s your quick explanation.  The word “crunk” started out as a college word.  It meant being more than just drunk to the point of being crazy drunk.  Crazy drunk being “crunk.”  The word has since morphed into several different meanings.  Some people would dispute the way I learned about the word saying it started with much more sinister reasons.

The word now has basically changed to mean what is cutting-edge cool.  Since Wolf started using the word–as in “my young crunk brothers”–we started the Crunk List to tell you what is on the tips of the tongues of those who would be considered crunk.

Here’s the back story to boom goes the dynamite.  A kid from Ball State is going through his first sports cast on the student run news show.  The hilarity is how important it is for him to get out his signature line “boom goes the dynamite” but he can’t do any part of the actual highlight.  It’s not only funny because he’s so bad, but mostly because he refuses to drop his line.

We brought it up in the crunk list because “boom goes the dynamite” has actually moved into Oscar vernacular.  For some reason, Will Smith kept saying, “outstounding” instead of “outstanding.”  It was classic for him to bust himself with his own “boom goes the dynamite.”

The “boom goes the dynamite” story reminded me of my favorite news clip ever.  It honestly takes me 15 minutes to get it together after I watch it.  Ohio University Broadcast Journalism Students run a weekday newscast in the early afternoon.  Everyone calls it “Active-7″ but it’s really a show on ACTV, channel 7.  They work multiple positions to learn about TV news and eventually move on air for real experience.  Eventually “Louis” had moved up the chain for his big chance to be on air as the weatherman.

I’ve watched it so many times I pick-up something new every time.  After you watch it the first time (because once you see it you’ll show someone else and be watching it a second time), pay attention to the weatherman’s hand/arm position.  Just from a common sense factor it’s hilarious.

A weatherman stands in front of a green screen and a computer takes out all the green in the picture and superimposes the weather maps and forecast.  The weatherman is supposed to look at the monitor and point at different aspects on the screen he wants to highlight.  What’s great about this guy is he’ll point with one hand and realize he’s pointing off-screen, so he then switches hands, but points across his body.  Therefore, he’s pointing in the same direction he was before.  At least common sense would tell you if you’re pointing to the left with your left hand and it’s wrong, don’t point with your right hand to the left because you’re still doing the same thing!

The third time I watched it, I noticed his eyes.  In TV, there’s a floor manager that helps the talent find cameras and lead them to different screens.  You can see our weatherman constantly looking at the floor manager and being surprised by everything that’s happening.  He even checks the camera to see if he’s still on air instead of worrying what he’s going to do next.

The fourth time…it was the amount of times he repeats the same info because he continually losses his place. Yes, I’ve watched it at least 100 times.

The highlight of the whole thing is the cheesy blonde at the end of the forecast.  When it’s over, you’re so happy the kids off-the-hook but you know it’s coming.  You’re hoping she doesn’t say it.  You’re praying she just ignores him and goes on with the news…and…she says it.

Doug Franz College Football Playoff - The Finals

Well, we are finally here. The National Championship. And because of you it is a Big 12 affair. Texas outlasted Florida and Oklahoma beat USC. Last time these two teams were on a neutral field the Longhorns prevailed, will this time be the same? That is up to you. Here are the semi-final results with the voting for the title game underneath.

Oklahoma over 170-116 (59%-41%)

Texas over Florida 386-112 (78%-22%)

Take a look at where we started with 16 teams, or 8 teams, or those highly powered semi-final matchups.

The semi-finals are here!

The playoff had its first upset of the tournament when USC traveled to Alabama and took care of business (according to you, and was that really an upset? I guess only in the standings). We are now down to four and arguably everyone’s top four teams in the country this season. No home field advantage this round as the games take place at neutral sites, the other BCS games. First we will have Oklahoma taking on USC in New Orleans at the Sugar Bowl. The other semi-final will see Texas battling Florida in the Rose Bowl. The winners will then play in the Fiesta Bowl for the DFCFB Playoff Champion. Here is a look at how the Round 2 matchups ended and if you would like to see what the bracket looked like in Round 1 you can see it here. Next week leading up to the actual BCS Championship game we will have the DFCFB Championship game and see where we end up. Personally, the last three weeks of these games below have been better than 30 plus days of not watching these four teams.

Oklahoma over Penn State 239-27 (90%-10%)

Florida over Texas Tech 211-40 (84%-16%)

Texas over Utah 225-29 (89%-11%)

USC over Alabama 202-53 (79%-21%)

Doug Franz College Football Playoff - Round 2

The first round has ended and it went upset free. I think that alone is a shock.

The Doug Franz College Football Playoff names 16 teams to a playoff with 8 teams earning a bid by winning their conference championship from one of the top 8 conferences. The other 8 teams earn an at-large bid by being one of the top 8 highest rated teams in the BCS that don’t win their conference championship. Here are the results of the first round:

Oklahoma over Virginia Tech 318-3 (99%-1%)

Florida over Georgia 302-12 (96%-4%)

Texas over Georgia Tech 285-23 (93%-7%)

Alabama over Oklahoma State 227-80 (74%-26%)

USC over Cincinnati 302-6 (98%-2%)

Utah over TCU 167-140 (54%-46%)

Texas Tech over Ohio State 258-50 (84%-16%)

Penn State over Boise State 163-147 (53%-47%)

I took TCU and Boise State winning on the road but I was out-voted. Now, the second round is still at the home of the higher seed. I don’t re-seed the play-off. The reason is simple, the bracket. The NCAA basketball tourney is a success because of the bracket and the office pool. The Doug Franz College Football Playoff is banking on the bracket to bring the playoff the same attention.

The round two games are on.

I’m only taking one upset in the second round. I think Alabama is better than most people do. I don’t think Alabama is as good as Alabama fans think they are. I know Alabama isn’t better than USC. I don’t care where the game is, USC would beat ‘Bama.

I’m totally interested in the Texas Tech game at Florida. I think UF wins, but imagine the offenses in that contest. A Heisman trophy winner and two almost’s all in one game. Meyer and Leach’s offensive minds going at it. That’s the offensive game of the century.

The other games interest me only in the “maybe, just maybe” category. I mean maybe when it comes to the upset possibility even though I don’t think it will happen.

Now it’s your turn to pick. We’ll leave the voting up until right after Christmas. Make sure you check back to the Doug Franz College Football Playoff after Christmas for the National Semi-finals.

Doug’s NFL Power Poll - Week 15

1. GIANTS: The loss to CLE is still unacceptable but the I can accept the loss to PHI
2. PANTHERS: must win vDEN because road trips @NYG and @NO are tough
3. TITANS: only giving up 2 TD’s a game but @HOU, vPIT, and @IND is a rough way into the playoffs
4. STEELERS: defense is 1st in points allowed, 1st in total yards, 1st in rushing against and 1st in passing against
5. COLTS: the quietest 6 game winning streak goes vDET and @JAX and will be 11-4 going to TEN
6. BUCS: how happy is Matt Ryan to face an upset Monte Kiffin defense
7. RAVENS: 2nd or 3rd in every defensive category and they’re vPIT next, anyone else see a 3-0 game

9. FALCONS: I don’t know if they’re making the playoffs but that last game vSTL will come in handy
10. JETS: what a waste

17. SAINTS: with 5 teams between them and the 6 seed, do I really need to write anything?
18. BRONCOS: they’ll lose @CAR and @SD if SD wins out, so vBUF is for the division
19.REDSKINS: : Hey Zorn, isn’t it amazing how Campbell played great when you were giving Portis the ball and he’s not now?
20. TEXANS: this team gets better every year just to become irrelevant in that division
21. BILLS: maybe you were confused by the whole punt on 3rd down thing
22. CHARGERS: @KC is easy but @TB while DEN is vBUF will ice the division…for DEN

27. CHIEFS: so Carl, without Marty or Vermeil, you’ve done nothing
28. SEAHAWKS: Is Jim Mora really going to make that much of a difference?
29. RAMS: this team has offensive weapons and is still terrible…meaning they’re 3 years away from competing
30. BENGALS: : it will be interesting to see how they do next year when the cancer is gone
31. RAIDERS: for the first time in my career, no e-mails from Raider nation for a whole week
32. LIONS: how’s your baseball team, your football team, your college football team?…at least the Wings are the #2 seed right now

Doug Franz College Football Playoff - Let the games begin!

The standings are in the books.  Now it’s time for the most interactive playoff in college football.  Welcome to the 9th annual Doug Franz College Football Playoff.

I’ve been giving you my version of a college football playoff since week 1 of the BCS standings.  Today is a different day, however, because YOUR vote will determine who  advances to the quarterfinals.

In this blog I’ve been very successful at destroying every point ever made by anyone in the anti-playoff crowd.  I’m fully aware that my playoff will never happen but even the match-ups get me excited.

Before you decide who gets out of the first round of the DFCFP, let me explain how it works.  More to the point, let me explain how Virginia Tech is in and three teams ranked ahead of Va Tech are not.

I like the BCS formula.  I think it’s an attack on anyone’s intelligence to use it to place only two teams into a championship game.  This year proves all of us BCS haters right again, as Texas and Oklahoma each have one loss and Texas was the one to beat Oklahoma.  If both teams lost the same amount of games and one of them lost head-to-head, how are we at this point?

I use the BCS formula to rank 120 teams.  I then rank all 11 conferences.  I want to reward those teams that won their conference.  However, I don’t think winning the Sunbelt should allow you to compete for a national championship.  I also don’t want FCS division teams flocking to begin new conferences at the FBS level just to be in the playoff.  My solution is a fixed number of teams (16) getting in the playoff with the automatic bids and the at-large bids evenly split.

I’ve taken the average rank of all the teams of each conference and then ranked the conferences.  Then I take the conference champion of the top eight conferences and advance them into the playoff.  The number listed next to each conference is the BCS average of the teams in that conference:

42

44.8

45.3

48

55

60

The standings are a huge wake-up call. The ACC’s champion is ranked 19th in the BCS. There are six conferences whose second place team ranks higher than Virginia Tech. That should mean the conference is a joke. Yet, if you rank a conference from the bottom up, the ACC is clearly number one. Duke is ranked 65th in the BCS. The mighty Big 12 has four teams ranked worse. The historically strong SEC actually has five teams ranked worse than Duke. Arizona was ranked 64th saving the Pac-10 from having 60% of its conference ranked worse than the last team in the ACC.

I love my system because it rewards your conference as a whole and makes your non-conference schedule vital to your chances to make the playoff.

The other eight spots are filled with at-large bids—which go to the top 8 teams in the BCS that didn’t win their conference championship. I then seed all 16 teams based on BCS ranking. The number next to each team is their seed for the playoff

Conference Champions Wild Cards
Virginia Tech (16) Texas (3)
Oklahoma (3) Alabama (4)
Florida (2) Texas Tech (7)
Cincinnati (12) Ohio State (10)
Penn State (8) TCU (11)
Utah (6) Oklahoma St. (13)
USC (5) Georgia Tech (14)
Boise State (9) Georgia (15)

Once you set up the seeds, it’s a complete shock to the system to look at the match ups. There are two repeats from the regular season. After all these years of the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” being played in Jacksonville, the game moves to Gainesville. I’m also picking the upset in the other re-match. I don’t think Utah is beating TCU twice in the same year.

You have one week to study the match ups and vote on who advances. Use the honor system and vote only once because your vote counts but don’t make it count more than someone else’s vote. Since I don’t want to make fans drive around to neutral sites, the first two rounds are at the home of the higher seed. The last two games incorporate existing bowls.

I’ll start the voting.  I’m taking two upsets:  TCU and Boise St.  I’ll take the home team in every other game.  Now it’s your turn. The polls are open for the next week and then we’ll take the results and move onto the quarterfinals.

College Football Playoff - The 5th tiebreaker wouldn’t matter

It’s time for the weekly look at my beloved playoff.  The Doug Franz College Football Playoff is not rocked by the controversy of the Big 12 title game tie-breaker, yet the game is still important because of the chance for Mizzou to get into the playoff or get bumped.

The playoff is simple.  16 teams, first to rounds at the site’s of the higher seed.  The catch is I use the BCS rankings to rank all 120 teams.  This gives me an average for each conference.  I want to award the conference winners because that keeps the regular season relevant.  However, I don’t think that the Sun Belt deserves a chance to make the playoff so I rank the conferences 1-8.  Only a conference champ from one of the top 8 earns an automatic bid.

Here’s the rank of the top eight conferences after week 7 of the BCS.  The number beside each conference is the average rank of all the teams in the conference as determined by the BCS.

34.25

42.17

44.33

46

47.91

55.44

60.3

71.44

82.08

This means the eight conference champions would get an automatic bid from the top 8 conference rankings but I still have the wild cards to fill.  These are the top 8 teams that didn’t win their conference as ranked by the BCS.

Conference Champion                      Wild Card
Boston College                                 Texas
Cincinnati                                         Florida
Oklahoma                                         Texas Tech
Alabama                                           Ohio State
Penn State                                        TCU
Utah                                                  Ball State
USC                                                   Okla State
Boise State                                       Georgia Tech

What a shock to see Georgia Tech get in but not Georgia.  UGa is on the outside looking in as the number “17” team.  To all of those that are worried about a playoff destroying the bowl games, how about a Georgia/Mizzou Cotton Bowl?  I think the playoff would look great.

After the 16 teams are set, it’s time to seed based on BCS standing of each team and not the conference rank.  Higher seed gets home field so here’s the field.

16) Boston College         @  1) Alabama
15) Ga. Tech               @ 2) Oklahoma
14) Okla. St                 @ 3) Texas
13) Cincinnati           @ 4) Florida
12) Ball St.                   @ 5) USC
11) TCU                         @ 6) Utah
10) Ohio State          @ 7) Texas Tech
9) Boise St.                  @ 8 ) Penn St.

I’ll be the first to admit.  These pairings aren’t quite as sexy as some we’ve had in the previous weeks.  I like the lower pairings.  OSU and TT would be a classic.  I’d like to see what Boise State could do at Penn State.  The best thing about the playoff is one simple thing.  All undefeated teams have a chance to win the national championship.  What a novel concept that is!

Next week, it will be the final pairings and it will be time for you to get involved.  I’m going to post the final standings and it’s up to you to vote on the winners that will lead us to the national champion of the DFCFP.

If I’m making predictions, I’d take all the higher seeds except for Ohio State over Texas Tech.  That would make round two:

8) Penn State @ 1) Alabama
10) Ohio State @ 2) Oklahoma
6) Utah @ 3) Texas
5) USC @ 4) Florida

My leg started bouncing just looking at these match-ups.  PSU/Bama is going very old school.  Seeing all the Buckeye fans standing outside Oklahoma because they’ve finally met a team that won’t sell their tickets would be astonishing.  If money wasn’t an object, how much would you spend to see Tebow go against the defense of USC?

Now is when I mix in the other bowl games.  The higher seed gets to choose Orange or Sugar with the championship at the Fiesta Bowl (the host bowl would rotate but I’m being a homer letting the Fiesta host the first one).  I would take only one upset in this scenario and that’s USC.  It’s tempting to take Penn State but I think they need home field to knock off Bama but that would be a great game.

Bama would choose Sugar so USC would follow them while the Orange Bowl would be—you guessed it—the Red River shoot-out all over again.  The Fiesta would then host the DFCFP champhionship.

No Vince or Matt but I’m taking Texas and USC all over again.

Next week, it’s your turn to make predictions because the standings will be final.

College Football Playoff - It’s getting worse for the MAC

Ball State versus Buffalo and Boise State versus Fresno State are games with $10 million dollars on the line.  If the Cardinals win and the Broncos get hammered, there’s a payday for the MAC in the Doug Franz College Football Playoff.  Don’t worry WAC fans, Boise State would still make the playoff but the MAC would take the money out of the hands of the big, bad Big 12.

Every week I’ve been destroying any point made by the “Anti-Playoff” crowd in my “Doug Franz College Football Playoff” blog while giving my version of what a playoff would look like.

Let’s review the Doug v. “Anti-Playoff” argument by each week of the BCS.

ROUND ANTI-PLAYOFF DOUG
1 Too many games You’ve added a 12th and some may play a 13th
2 Season too long Basketball is longer
3 Tradition Congressional Bowl
4 They’re student-athletes And the D-1(AA), D-2,D-3 kids aren’t?
5 Too much travel for fans You’ve put Georgetown in the Boise region yet now you’re worried about fans travel?
6 The kids deserve to go to a bowl. No one deserves to go to Boise on 12/30

Now that I’m 6-0 in beat downs against the opposition, let’s move to the playoff. I would be thrilled with almost any system of determining the outcome on the field. However, I like my playoff because I create conference rivalries.

Right now the MAC and the WAC are battling it out for the final automatic spot in the playoff. Only the top 8 conferences get an automatic bid. This keeps the rif-raf (Sun Belt) out while still rewarding winning a regular season championship. If the MAC passes the WAC, Ball State’s in as a 13 seed. They would take Missouri’s spot because Boise State would move from an automatic bid to an at-large and knock all the at-larges from Ohio State to Oklahoma State down a notch and push Mizzou off the table.

All first round teams get $10 million, plus the home team gets to keep the gate receipts. The second round is at the site of the higher seed but I have the playoff set up like a bracket. I do not re-seed the playoff. The reason is simple: OFFICE POOLS. Who wouldn’t be doing a Doug Franz College Football Office Pool Bracket. The bracket drives the popularity.

Here’s the steps I take to make it work.

1.    Rank all 120 D-1 teams using the BCS formula (Alabama-Western Kentucky)
2.    Rank the conferences 1-11 based on the average of all teams in the conference
3.    Learn all the tie-breakers of each conference and award a winner of each of the top 8 conferences in the “if the playoffs started today” category
4.    Use the BCS formula and take the top 8 teams that weren’t already picked as the conference champion
5.    Rank the 16 playoff teams (8 conference champions and 8 at-large) using the BCS formula
6.    Set-up bracket to award home field to the higher seed

The conference rankings didn’t change although the WAC is getting stronger (…and Leon is getting larger).

Ball State is still on the outside looking in.  They’re going to get a big jump with they’re win Tuesday night.  If they win the MAC championship, the computers might put them over Mizzou - assuming Mizzou loses in the Big 12 championship game.  It’s either that or root for Fresno State to crush Boise State and hope that brings down the rankings of the WAC.

The match-ups in this week’s DFCFP are great.  Ga Tech with the short trip to Tuscaloosa is solid.  The big games are in Lubbock and Salt Lake.  Ohio State and James Laurinaitis try to prove themselves worthy against Texas Tech’s offensive attack while Georgia makes another trek to the Mountain Time Zone against Utah.

Here’s the match-ups after week 6 of the BCS standings in the DFCFP.

16) Ga. Tech        @           1) Alabama

College Football Playoff - Big game in Norman?

How about a major rivalry in the toughest division in college football to open the Doug Franz College Football Playoff?

At the end of every week, I’m going to do two things regarding a college football playoff: explain the fallacy of those who are against it and give you how the top 16 breaks out.

Let’s go with reason number three from the BCS honks:  The fans won’t trek all over the country following a playoff team.

A)  You’re wrong.  As popular as college football is, you’re crazy to think fans won’t travel.  Let me give you an example:  Georgia @ ASU.  Have you seen the attendance figures for ASU this year?  Then go to the games and tell me where all the people are.  I’ll tell you where they are, in Georgia.  ASU season tickets are so inexpensive that it was cheaper for UGa fan to fly to PHX, get a hotel and go to the game than it is for them to buy tickets to a regular Georgia game.  If travel was such a nightmare, why did they do it?

B)  In my playoff, the first two rounds are at the home to the higher seed so 50% of the teams aren’t traveling.  The road team will be guaranteed 8% of all tickets to sell to their fans.  Any tickets not sold by Thursday morning will be returned to the home school to sell.  You will sellout every game, unless, of course, Georgia fans are willing to travel to ASU for a regular season game but aren’t willing to go to Los Angeles to see USC vUGa in a playoff game.

In previous blogs, I would explain the playoff and then give it to you.  I’ll give you my explanation at the end this time so if you don’t know how it works and you’re interested you can keep reading.  If you want to discuss anything with me, my e-mail’s always open doug@ktar.com.  If you want to just post your feelings for all to see, feel free to write a post on the blog.

Here’s the week 5 DFCFP:

16) Miami              @           1) Alabama
15) Cincinnati     @           2) Texas Tech
14) BYU                  @           3) Texas
13) Missouri         @           4) Florida
12) OKla. St          @           5) Oklahoma
11) Georgia           @           6) USC
10) Ohio State      @           7) Utah
9) Boise St.            @           8 ) Penn St.

There are so many story lines starting with the game in Norman.  Imagine the hype if the season ended and those two programs got lined up to play.  Look at Georgia traveling out west twice in the same season.  Could Utah fans really keep Ohio State fans out of their own stadium when they see the prices Buckeye fans will pay to get in?  Boise State is only 4 hundredths of a point from forcing big, bad Penn State from having to play on the blue turf—in December.

If we assume the higher seeds win, week 2 is just scary.

8 ) Penn State @ 1) Alabama
7) Utah (or Ohio State) @ 2) Texas Tech
6) USC @ 3) Texas
5) Oklahoma @ 4) Florida

Florida and Alabama would then go to the Orange Bowl and Texas Tech/Texas would play in the Sugar with the winners meeting in the Fiesta Bowl.

The things to look for this week that will affect the DFCFP is obviously Oklahoma/Texas Tech as the winner gets home field in the second round.  If Michigan State wins against Penn State, the Lions would still make the playoff but BYU would get knocked out as a wild card.  Ball State also has its two toughest games of the schedule left.  If they win out and win the MAC Championship game, the conference average would go above the WAC.  Boise State is strong enough they’d still make the playoff but as a wild card they would knock out BYU—or Mizzou if Michigan State won.  Yes, I’m actually figuring out tie-breakers to a made-up playoff.

Here’s the DFCFP explanation:

My playoff uses the BCS formula.  I like the formula, I just think it’s wrong to use it to bring us down to 2 teams.  I use the formula to rank all 120 teams and then rank the conferences 1-11 based on the average BCS position of all the teams in the conference.  Once the conferences are ranked, only the top 8 conferences receive an automatic bid.

I don’t see a reason to justify the Sun Belt in division 1 (FBS if you want to be PC) so why should they get a spot at the table?  I think if you open the playoff to champions of each conference, you’ll have many more teams jump to I-A football just to start a conference in order to get into the dance.

I love my system because of the way it penalizes horrible teams in the conference.  Imagine how shocked the PAC-10 would be if it didn’t make the cut of one of the top 8 conferences.  Well, they’re 7th.  The reason why they’re so low is because of the dead weight at the bottom of the conference (Wazzu and UW).  The rivalries between conferences would develop because every single game would determine whether or not your champion makes the playoff.

This week the conference rankings didn’t change.  The number next to the logo is the average rank of every team in the conference.

Doug’s Power Poll - Week 12

1. TITANS: Collins is not just managing games, he’s winning them
2. GIANTS: one NY team is @ number one and this one is @ number 7…I know it’s cheesy but are you ready for some football
3. PANTHERS: Delhomme has been awful the last two weeks…that better change or the next two weeks are losses @ATL and @GB
4. BUCS: +9 in sacks and 4th in scoring defense and Garcia is last in interceptions…can we start to take this team a little more seriously please?
5. STEELERS: since this is Pac-10 country you probably already know but I think we should all learn how to spell P-O-L-A-M-A-L-U
6. JETS: I haven’t been this excited for a NYJ game since…since
7. CARDINALS: : I’m very interested in how the TOP will be with the great running game of NYG and the lack of one from AZ
8. PATRIOTS: I think everyone knew that NE and IND would battle for playoff position, but did you think that position would be the 6 seed?
9. REDSKINS: when you sign a contract to play O-line for WSH you have a reputation to uphold…these are no hogs
10. COLTS: @SD next week will end the season of the loser
11. COWBOYS: defense was great since almost all the WSH 3rd down conversions happened on one drive…how long will TO accept 5 catches and no TD’s?
12. DOLPHINS: you’re not good enough to just show up and win…OK, you are against OAK but not anyone else
13. BRONCOS: this team is either really good out of all the bad teams or really bad about of all the good ones
14. FALCONS: I don’t care how bad you were last year or what you’ve accomplished this year, you have no excuse to lose to Denver
15. PACKERS: giving up almost 150 rush y/g eliminates any chance of me believing they belong in any category other than “someone’s got to win the NFC North”
16. EAGLES: I wrote last week “I think McNabb is a good guy and a loser at the same time”…do you ever get the feeling I could predict the end of the world (I’d hate to see if the end of the world is a tie)
17. RAVENS: the fun and games are over now so you can make your January plans
18. BEARS: I really believe Lovie’s a good coach but there’s fewer people on the boat with me
19. VIKINGS: we’ve all been trained that you must be able to run the football and stop the run…MIN is 4th in rush offense, 2nd in rush defense, and a .500 team
20. JAGUARS: huge loss to TEN because next 3 are very winnable (vMIN, @HOU, @CHI)…through exhaustive research, statistical analysis, and discussions with NFL insiders I’ve discovered this is an average team
21. CHARGERS: Can we finally put the coaching career of Norv Turner to rest?
22. SAINTS: Interesting PIT is on top of all the defensive categories and NO is on top of most offensive categories…they’re also in different spots on the power poll
23. BROWNS: almost became the first team in NFL history to lose 3 straight while possessing a lead of over 13 pts in the game
24. BILLS: WIDE RIGHT!…now where have I heard that before?
25. TEXANS: last year good record outside the division and 0-6 in it while this year it’s 3-3 outside and 0-4 inside…solution: move the franchise to LA and force re-alignment
26. 49ERS: there’s the Vernon Davis thing, the reporter asking about Walsh and the underwear thing one week, then there’s the getting in subs while needing to stop the clock the next week…are you telling me that it was just football this weekend?
27. RAMS: how do WSH and DAL feel about STL?
28. SEAHAWKS: our CFB team is better, our MLB team is better, our NFL team is better, and our NBA team is, well, still here…and better
29. BENGALS: why do you play your heart out against the NFC East and no one else?
30. RAIDERS: it’s not PC but since he won’t sell and he won’t relinquish control, this team will not succeed until Al Davis is dead (is 156 passing yards an improvement or disappointment, I have trouble remembering where the bar is)
31. CHIEFS: don’t blame the players, they’re not good…don’t blame the coach, he didn’t hire himself
32. LIONS: are they included in the auto industry bail out?
