Prime Time for the NFL Draft

Here’s what happened Tuesday on Doug and Wolf:

* NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday the league was discussing the possibility of staging the first round of the 2010 draft on a Thursday evening on primetime TV. Do you think this is a good move? Wolf doesn’t… “I feel like this is going to be Kathy Griffin esque…Its not broken why try to fix it, keep it on the weekend” Doug says: “Right move for Goodell’s goals, it will increases ratings, screws fans.”

* D-backs had a couple of firsts last night against the Cubs. Dan Haren pitched the first complete game giving up only three hits and walking zero! Chris Snyder hit his first home run of the season and the D-backs won back-to-back games for the first time this season. Also, the D-backs stole 5 bases last night which almost equaled their season total of 6. Doug: “I loved their aggressive nature on the base paths and I think that Mark Reynolds had his best game of the season.”

*Mike Leach strikes again, yesterday he was criticizing Eric Mangini and the Cleveland Browns today it is the Dallas Cowboys and their 4th round selection, Quarterback Stephen McGee from Texas A&M. “The Dallas Cowboys like him more than his coaches at A&M did,” Leach said.

Wolf thinks: “He had to say this to defend his program and system. He needs to be able to get recruits to want to come to Texas Tech and be a quarterback for him.”

Grid Iron Griddle:

Eben Britton, Arizona’s All-Pac-10 offensive tackle said this after being drafted in the second round (39th overall). “I’m extremely (upset) about not being taken in the first round, I’m the most underrated player in this draft. I will lead the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Super Bowl.”

Wolf: “This guy is going to have dirt on his face, blood in his mouth, and a target on his back, he doesn’t need to worry about the games he is just going to have to worry about practice. It’s OK to think that but don’t say it, the level of stupidity here is staggering.”

Guests:

Kevin Spencer, Cardinals Special Teams Coach: Kevin talked about the 9 free agents the Cardinals signed and how they will affect the special team’s roster

Dave Pasch, Voice of the Cardinals: Dave analyzed the Cardinals 2009 draft picks.

Draft analyzation

Here’s what happened Monday on Doug and Wolf:

* The Cardinals’ draft was analyzed as a whole, and it was an overall good job.

* Doug thinks he can run the Raiders’ draft better than Al Davis after the reach for Maryland WR Darrius Heyward-Bey with the 7th pick overall.

* Brandon Webb is out for at least six more weeks. Is the D-Backs season over?

Grid Iron Griddle:

Doug told of the Alabama ceremony where their football captains are honored by having their hand and footprints placed in cement. The 2009 third-round draft pick by the Cardinals, Rashad Johnson, is only the second player ever with this honor bestowed upon him twice.

Guests:

Ken Whisenhunt, Cardinals Head Coach: Ken took a look back at the team’s draft.

Jim Tressel, Ohio State Head Football Coach: Jim described what kind of running back Chris “Beanie” Wells is.

I feel a draft coming

Here’s what happened Thursday on Doug and Wolf:

* The Diamondbacks start a 3 game series against the Giants at home tonight.  What do you consider a successful weekend for the Diamondbacks? Doug feels that they gotta win the series and the bull pen has to not embarrass themselves.

* The Cardinals have the 31st pick in the first round of Saturday’s NFL Draft. GM Rod Graves doesn’t anticipate trading Anquan Boldin. Is he posturing or do you think that a team is going to come through with the big offer?
According to Doug, Rod Graves said that someone has officially made an offer.

D-backs win a series

Here’s what happened Thursday on Doug and Wolf:

* The D-backs won their first series of the season last night and Dan Haren finally got his first win despite having an ERA below 2 in his first three losses. The lack of offense has hurt him in all of his starts this season, do you think with the numbers he has put up that he still has a chance of becoming an All-Star or even a CY Young candidate?

* Rumors say that the Ravens are willing to offer the Cardinals tight end Todd Heap and a first-round draft pick for wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Do you think this is a fair or reasonable offer?

Wolf thinks Anquan has become too much of a headache so it might be best to just take the deal.

* Jeremy Tyler a high school junior from San Diego says he will skip his senior year of high school to go pro in Europe. Do you think he might start an unsettling trend?

Doug and Wolf both think he will fail and believe that college is the better path to go but then again you do have free will so go right ahead…

Grid Iron Griddle:

Matthew Stafford has been compared to former Broncos quarterback and current Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Is this a good or bad thing for Stafford?

Guests:

John Clayton, ESPN NFL Insider: John is live from NYC! He discussed the latest on Anquan Boldin trade rumors and if the Lions will sign quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Derrick Hall, D-backs President and CEO: Derrick talked about the D-backs first series win of the season and the return of Randy Johnson to Chase Field this weekend.

Allen scored 28 points in the second half and Rajon Rondo completed a triple-double. Ben Gordon had 42 points for the Bulls in the loss. Doug & Wolf seem to think the game is an instant classic, where do you think it ranks on the list of Bulls-Celtics Rivalry games?

* Doug & Wolf gave fellow KTAR friend Paul Calvisi a hard time for using his name to get out of a speeding ticket this morning. Madden’s last game was a Cardinal game

Here’s what happened Thursday on Doug and Wolf:

* According to MSNBC John Madden announced his retirement today. The legend will be missed. At least the last game he called was a Cardinals game!

* The D-backs have opened the season with a 3-6 record which is the exact same record they posted in 2004 when they lost 111 games. How do D&W feel about their predictions that the D-backs will win the NL West now?

* The Suns played their final game of the season and for the first time since 2004 they will not be going to the playoffs. Steve Nash thinks it is a good thing “Our deficiencies can be fixed, and not be swept under the rug” Do you agree?

Grid Iron Griddle:

Reports say that the Cardinals are listening to offers to trade wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

D&W have mixed feelings about trading Boldin especially Wolf because he likes him so much as a player.
