Are You Ready For Some Playoffs?

Here’s what happened Monday on Doug and Wolf:

* The Cards finally beat the Seahawks in Seattle. They’ve done all but clinched the NFC West. Can you say playoffs?

* The Cards continue to struggle with the running game. Is that a problem?

* Shaq has a new nickname after his physics explanation for his apparent flagrant two on Rodney Stuckey: The Big Einstein.

* ESPN NFL Insider John Clayton finally agrees with Wolf that the Giants are number one. Doug can’t believe it.

Guests:

Ken Whisenhunt, AZ Cardinals Head Coach: Coach Whiz discussed the young players and the defense being key to yesterday’s win. He also thinks Kurt Warner deserves MVP.

Al McCoy, Phoenix Suns Hall of Fame Announcer: Al was all excited about last night’s win against the Pistons.

Paul’s Call: Paul Calvisi takes his sports seriously, without taking himself too seriously. Your daily dose of irreverence, angst, and stupification.

Wolf’s Chalkboard Chat - 11/17

Welcome! You have entered [Sports 620 KTAR] at 9:11 am
[WOLF] 9:13 am: Good day, brothers and sisters. Shakk we?

[eyeshield21] 9:13 am: how bout them 7-3 cardinals!
[rombo99] 9:13 am: We shakk!
[MikeStackpole] 9:13 am: we shakk…
[jstopple] 9:13 am: Fooshaw!
[BigPrestonPump] 9:13 am: indeed
[eyeshield21] 9:13 am: a body in motion stays in motion
[eyeshield21] 9:13 am: lol
[Jarrod] 9:14 am: Giants  17-1 in their last 18 games
[WOLF] 9:14 am: Something smells different about this season,
doesn’t it?

[eyeshield21] 9:15 am: it smells good, Wolf
[jemeser] 9:15 am: Wolf, Collins vs. Warner for MVP. How does the
10-0 vs. 7-3 record effect voting? Is that more important than total yards,
completion % etc? How can they compare these two?
[MikeStackpole] 9:15 am: the butterflies in the stomach are fading when
things get tight.
[eyeshield21] 9:15 am: i wonder how our O-line is going to stack up with
that talented front 7 of the NY Giants
[WOLF] 9:15 am: It smells like baked bread on a summer day
[rbritt] 9:15 am: Did Kurt get injured yesterday?
[Jarrod] 9:15 am: NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
[Jarrod] 9:16 am: Sorry, NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME    AZ vs NY in NY
[dawgpound69] 9:16 am: How sweat it is
[BigPrestonPump] 9:16 am: sweat??
[jstopple] 9:16 am: Is it just me or are offensive blocking schemes
getting more vanilla especially in the running game?
[WOLF] 9:16 am: The Giants pass rush - on film - is the best I’ve
seen!

[eyeshield21] 9:16 am: it smells like the hostess factory on 35th ave
[MikeW] 9:16 am: Wolf, how would you assess coach Haley’s play
calling in the 4th quarter?
[ikonge09] 9:16 am: 2 glove kurt MVP?
[WOLF] 9:16 am: Kurt is fine.
[eyeshield21] 9:16 am: delicious
[rbritt] 9:17 am: Why can’t we run the ball?
[Blackmaverik] 9:17 am: I still cannot believe that “our Card’s” are 4
games ABOVE 500!!
[Jarrod] 9:17 am: O LINE
[eyeshield21] 9:17 am: i thought we ran pretty good yesterday actually
[eyeshield21] 9:17 am: the draw plays worked toperfection
[jstopple] 9:17 am: I meant throughout the NFL
[MikeStackpole] 9:17 am: Wolf, do the Giants have any particular
weakness that the Cardinals are ready to exploit?
[WOLF] 9:17 am: The blocking schemes need to be as vanilla as
they can be. They don’t need to complicate the issue.

[Sunsmortman] 9:17 am: What about JJ
[jstopple] 9:18 am: That has to do with the speed of the game?
[eyeshield21] 9:18 am: JJ is really coming into his own isnt he?
[shatch] 9:18 am: At what point can we enter the WOD?
[dawgpound69] 9:18 am: JJ looks good
[Sunsmortman] 9:18 am: Yes he is
[eyeshield21] 9:18 am: and DRC looks like a playmaker
[rbritt] 9:18 am: Why do we try and run the ball in side the red zone? I
thought we were #1 in red zone last year. What are we this years?
[eyeshield21] 9:18 am: what a talented young man
[Jarrod] 9:18 am: IMO the only weakness the Cards can expose is their
secondary- I think we can score 30 on them– if we finish..
[WOLF] 9:18 am: The Giants have NO weaknesses that I can
decipher. That’s why they are #1 in my power poll.
[Jarrod] 9:19 am: Agree with them beign #1 over Tennesee
[zonaman] 9:19 am: eli manning is a weakness doug
[eyeshield21] 9:19 am: our run game is the short passing slant, thats all
that matters
[zonaman] 9:19 am: and wolf
[WOLF] 9:19 am: How many teams can you say have “no
weaknesses?”

[eyeshield21] 9:19 am: until a team can stop our aerial attack, dont
worry about the run
[Jarrod] 9:19 am: eli is 27-9 as a starter with a ring.  weak how?
[ikonge09] 9:19 am: do we have shot to beat them?
[phillye] 9:19 am: ok then WOLF, how do the cards beat the gents? do
you think Kurt will pass for over 300?
[zonaman] 9:19 am: eli throws picks all the time
[MikeStackpole] 9:19 am: That’s scary… so playing here (at home) is
our only advantage?
[eyeshield21] 9:20 am: eli can lose confidence when he throws a pick
[zonaman] 9:20 am: pressure him with 4 or 5
[eyeshield21] 9:20 am: our D is gunna have to make plays
[jstopple] 9:20 am: A team can have no weaknesses but still lose to
another team executing perfectly.
[Jarrod] 9:20 am: so does favre, kurt, and collins
[Jarrod] 9:20 am: for teh record, I am NOT a NYG fan
[eyeshield21] 9:20 am: i think this game will once again be decided on
the turnover ratio
[dodgedan] 9:20 am: Keeping thier Offense off the field will help the
CARDS
[rbritt] 9:20 am: We should be able to win the game this week if we
pressure Eli. The D is going to be the Key to game for us.
[zonaman] 9:20 am: defense will be the deciding factor next week
[WOLF] 9:21 am: The Cards need to play a near perfect game:
protect the ball, take the ball away and limit their penalties. They
also need to get better on their cover teams in transition.

[movewith fred] 9:21 am: I think we have a shot. Dont forget the 12 man.
This Game is AT HOME.
[zonaman] 9:21 am: and how often kurt turns the ball over
[zonaman] 9:21 am: and yes, penalties need to stop
[eyeshield21] 9:21 am: cover teams has been hurt ever since Highsmith
was lost for the season…
[Jarrod] 9:21 am: the best way to beat the Giants is time mangement,
smart d and finishing.  they need TD’s not Fg’s
[Jericho] 9:21 am: Hopefully DRC will have another monster game like
yesterday against the Giants!
[dodgedan] 9:21 am: How many penalties did Seattle end up with. How
does a team have no penalties throught the 3rd Quarter?
[eyeshield21] 9:21 am: DRC sure is fast to the ball isnt he?
[Blackmaverik] 9:22 am: We really NEED to score TOUCHDOWNS in
the Red Zone
[MikeStackpole] 9:22 am: Why are we having so many penalties? Brain
fades, excitement, or some combination thereof?
[Jarrod] 9:22 am: no penalties= uninspired play
[fjm235] 9:22 am: Gmen lost to the Browns, so anything is possible.
[zonaman] 9:22 am: i think the cardinals should pass every down
[WOLF] 9:22 am: The problem for our defense is clear: they need
to stop the run by committing 8 men in-the-box but that leaves
the corners singled up on the perimeter.

[eyeshield21] 9:22 am: also the G men have a 3 headed run attack
[Blackmaverik] 9:22 am: FG’s are ok, but we need to get back to
Touchdowns
[eyeshield21] 9:22 am: it wont be easy
[Jarrod] 9:22 am: our corners can handle their recievers Wolf, I am more
worried about our O-line protecting Warner long enough
[eyeshield21] 9:23 am: Rackers seems to be back in form, he really is
on page with Johnson
[Jarrod] 9:23 am: do you think the Cards would be better off with leinhart
[zonaman] 9:23 am: im kinda surprised that rackers made all of those
[Jarrod] 9:23 am: JUST KIDDING
[zonaman] 9:23 am: no jarrod, cards need to resign warner to another 2
year deal
[eyeshield21] 9:23 am: rackers didnt even make it seem dramatic
either, they were almost all down the middle
[WOLF] 9:23 am: Rod Hood was banged up and I don’t know what
his status will be on Sunday. Ralph Brown did fill in nicely but…

[zonaman] 9:24 am: cut edge, resign warner, draft another QB
[rbritt] 9:24 am: Brown did a great job
[eyeshield21] 9:24 am: without hood, we are left with green as
emergency…
[eyeshield21] 9:24 am: thats not good
[bomber] 9:24 am: NO WAY #777777777777777777777777777 SIT ON
THE BENCH
[fjm235] 9:24 am: What about Eric Green?
[dodgedan] 9:24 am: Brown was ok
[zonaman] 9:24 am: brown did well
[Jarrod] 9:24 am: zonaman- agreed-  but teh QB needs to be a future
team Qb that Warner can groom
[eyeshield21] 9:24 am: ralph brown came up big with that deflection in
the end zone
[Blackmaverik] 9:24 am: Will we lose A Dub to a suspension?
[rbritt] 9:24 am: Brown should play before green.
[zonaman] 9:25 am: leinart is a liability, i think injuries will cut his
career short, we need another qb
[eyeshield21] 9:25 am: if a dub is suspended then they should just go
ahead and put flags on the waists of QBs from now on
[eyeshield21] 9:25 am: it was a clean hit
[Jarrod] 9:25 am: zonaman-  agreed,
[zonaman] 9:26 am: so wolf is chatting, wheres doug?
[Blackmaverik] 9:26 am: And dress them in SKIRTS!!
[Jarrod] 9:26 am: finding his socks..
[jemeser] 9:26 am: Nice to see how the Cards are exorcising the
demons that have plagued the franchise. Still more work to do and this
week is a litmus test, but they have indeed come a long, long way.
[eyeshield21] 9:26 am: his long lost socks
[rbritt] 9:26 am: Wilson should not be suspended
eyeshield21] 9:26 am: clean hit
[eyeshield21] 9:26 am: not helmet to helmet whatsoever
[WOLF] 9:26 am: The NFL better be careful with all of these fines
and flags. We are tribal people and we love the aggressive
nature of the game. Mess with this at your own peril.

[rbritt] 9:26 am: Doug are you out there?
[rbritt] 9:27 am: Yes!!!!!!!!! he is
[Jericho] 9:27 am: It’s Wolf’s Chalk Talk, not Doug’s Chalk Talk.
[zonaman] 9:27 am: what an intognatious outlook wolf
[eyeshield21] 9:27 am: is nice to see more people wearing cardinals
jerseys in the basin
[Jarrod] 9:27 am: Wolf- funny you say that- we watched an old NFL
game from teh early 80’s and teh speed and htitign were great..
[ecaringo] 9:27 am: Wolf, in the past, Clancy use to go with five d
lineman to stop the run. What do you think about using to stop Giants
running game?
[MikeStackpole] 9:27 am: Any sense why the NFL is handing out all
those fines? Is it to protect players, or protect (somehow) the image of
the game?
[Jarrod] 9:27 am: two words- ARLIN SPECTOR
[zonaman] 9:28 am: doug had to take a nap?
[eyeshield21] 9:28 am: its to protect the QB since apparently ppl like
high scoring games
[jemeser] 9:28 am: I do prefer the old game, head slaps and no skirts
on QBs. Can you elaborate on how the game has changed since you
started and ended your career and since it ended?
[eyeshield21] 9:28 am: a win is a win no matter what the score
[zonaman] 9:28 am: dont forget those paralyzed players and
concussion injuries
[Jarrod] 9:28 am: 1960s-  players were barbarians
[zonaman] 9:29 am: NFL doesnt want to pay for care after they are out
of the league
[eyeshield21] 9:29 am: that could be it too
[eyeshield21] 9:29 am: nice point zona
[Jarrod] 9:29 am: 1970’s players were men   1980s- players were tough
1990s players were whiny  2000s players are pussified rich guys
[bob] 9:29 am: Wolf
[WOLF] 9:29 am: I don’t think stopping the run is about putting an
extra DL into the game, it’s more about how your best players
approach the game. You don’t want to put an extra DL into the
game for the sake of stopping the run, you want to put your best
players on the field and use the scheme to control the run. Does
that make sense?

[aodogui] 9:29 am: Does anyone think that JJ should be taking kickoff
returns instead of Breston
[zonaman] 9:29 am: wolf, just put #24 on the line!
[MikeStackpole] 9:30 am: very good senes… challenge them as men to
do thier jobs.
[Blackmaverik] 9:30 am: They don’t care about running backs or
defensive players do they
[Jarrod] 9:30 am: I agree Wolf- use the best 11 D Men you have and
stick to your normal schemes
[zonaman] 9:30 am: no aodogui, breaston is in my fantasy linup!
[eyeshield21] 9:30 am: if you put 24 on the line they will find a way to
fine him, lol
[bob] 9:30 am: Wolf
[eyeshield21] 9:30 am: this NFL head office seems to think A Dub is a
dirty player
[Jarrod] 9:31 am: if teh Cards win, they are 8-3, Giants 9-2  Imagine an
NFC Championship game here
[WOLF] 9:31 am: Stack…welcome, my brother!
[eyeshield21] 9:31 am: p-p-playoffs?! are you kidding me? playoffs?!
[MikeStackpole] 9:31 am: heh, glad to be here, Wolf
[eyeshield21] 9:31 am: lol
[rbritt] 9:31 am: Wolf, when a player gets a fine do they pay for it or
does the team pick it up for them?
[Jarrod] 9:31 am: Wolf- are you gusy sharing a computer?
[jemeser] 9:31 am: NFC champ game could be here. Giants play
Panthers in week 16…one must lose.
[WOLF] 9:32 am: The player pays the fine himself!
[Blackmaverik] 9:32 am: How can they fine you if the refs don’t even
think it was a rough hit?
[Jarrod] 9:32 am: james-  or tie- did you see yesterdays debacle?
[Blackmaverik] 9:32 am: No FLAG!!
[eyeshield21] 9:32 am: i wonder what happens if the superbowl ends in
a tie…
[eyeshield21] 9:32 am: man what was mcnabb thinking
[zonaman] 9:32 am: haha tell me youre kidding
[Jarrod] 9:33 am: donovan? is that you>  mc stupid
[WOLF] 9:33 am: People of the Basin, you do believe McNabb did
not know that an NFL game could end in a tie?

[eyeshield21] 9:33 am: wake up mcfly!
[Jarrod] 9:33 am: see what concussions can do
[eyeshield21] 9:33 am: it sure sounded like he didnt, wolf
[bob] 9:33 am: Wolf. As big as L. Pope is, why could’t he run over the
back yesterday after his catch?
[Jarrod] 9:33 am: I do beleive he had no idea-
[eyeshield21] 9:33 am: either that or he hasnt masteres the art of
sarcasm
[MikeStackpole] 9:33 am: I guess he missed the memo…
[zonaman] 9:33 am: LOL Pope got romped!
[eyeshield21] 9:34 am: they cut down Pope’s legs
[eyeshield21] 9:34 am: it was sick lol
[zonaman] 9:34 am: he needs to lower his shoulders
[jemeser] 9:34 am: I think he did not know.
[zonaman] 9:34 am: hes 6 freakin 7
[eyeshield21] 9:34 am: how about Levi rumblin and tumblin 10 yards for
a 4 yard gain?
[WOLF] 9:34 am: Leonard has got to become more physical and
he must get in the weight room, get stronger and use his size to
his advantage.

[zonaman] 9:34 am: Quan wouldve leveled that DB
[eyeshield21] 9:34 am: Levi should be our running back…
[eyeshield21] 9:34 am: jk
[zonaman] 9:35 am: haha Levi Brown, takin handoffs
[eyeshield21] 9:35 am: id love to see a levi brown juke move lmao
[zonaman] 9:35 am: reminiscent of the buss
[eyeshield21] 9:35 am: the slowest spin imaginable
[Blackmaverik] 9:35 am: So tell him to do that Wolf, LOL
[WOLF] 9:35 am: Anquan Boldin: Abandon all hope ye who enter
here…

[Jarrod] 9:35 am: g
[eyeshield21] 9:35 am: you cant tackle the quan!
[rbritt] 9:35 am: Pope lacks heart. He need to talk to Boldin about that.
[MikeStackpole] 9:36 am: He is impressive… the Man with the Iron
Face.
[Jarrod] 9:36 am: Pope is a waste  IMO
[jemeser] 9:36 am: If McNabb really didn’t know, could that have
effected his play in OT? Thinking he’d get another OT if still tied at the
end of first OT?
[eyeshield21] 9:36 am: Anquan Boldin is Iron Man
[WOLF] 9:36 am: Iron Man…hmmmm
[zonaman] 9:36 am: cardinals shoulda took gonzalez from the chiefs
when they had the chance
[Jarrod] 9:36 am: zona  agreed, but they are ok
[eyeshield21] 9:36 am: Warner for MVP, fooshaw!!!
[eyeshield21] 9:37 am: when warner goes 395 passing yards, 1 td and 1
int and THAT is considered a so-so day, you know he is tearing it up
[zonaman] 9:37 am: hmmm, fitz and quan on the outside, breaston in
the slot, gonzo on the line
[zonaman] 9:37 am: who do you cover?
[WOLF] 9:37 am: I know Coach Whiz is not happy with the TE’s on
this team. Spach is the best blocker the Cards have and he’s only
been here a few weeks.

[rbritt] 9:37 am: I can give out a FOOSHAW to Warner
[WOLF] 9:37 am: Fooshaw!!!!
[eyeshield21] 9:37 am: now DBs have to cover Levi as well… lol
[rbritt] 9:38 am: FOOSHAW to the CARDS 7-3
[WOLF] 9:38 am: Basinonians…I must leave. Until we meet again.
Fooshaw!!!

[zonaman] 9:38 am: we’ve got our own 3-headed running attack
[eyeshield21] 9:38 am: FOOSHAW
[MikeStackpole] 9:38 am: Bye, Wolf
[zonaman] 9:38 am: foosh
[Jarrod] 9:38 am: FOOSHAW BROTHA
[Jarrod] 9:39 am: GO TEXAS TECH!!!!!
[bob] 9:39 am: Wolf. Do you think we will see Anquan use his
quarterback skills and throw a bomb before the end of the year
[aodogui] 9:39 am: Later man
[Blackmaverik] 9:39 am: Fooshaw Wolf, later
[Jericho] 9:39 am: FOOSHAW!!
MikeStackpole waves goodbye
[bomber] 9:39 am: FOOSHAW%^$##&&%## TO THE GIANT FANS
[phillye] 9:41 am:
[zonaman] 9:41 am: droppin like flies
[zonaman] 9:42 am: i think ill drop too, peace out all
[newzzero] 9:42 am: Did Shaq deserve the Flagrant 2??
[zonaman] 9:42 am: haha law of physics
[zonaman] 9:42 am: my ass
[zonaman] 9:43 am: if shaq knows physics so well, he should know
when to stop
[newzzero] 9:43 am: Good point.  It cant be easy stopping all of that
mass.
[zonaman] 9:44 am: then again, hes the guy who thinks the pethagorian
therom has no answer
[zonaman] 9:44 am: shh… no one tell him its C squared
[newzzero] 9:44 am: lol
[newzzero] 9:44 am: he must not be looking at a right triangle
[zonaman] 9:45 am: thats what makes him special
[zonaman] 9:45 am: sad that him and i share the same bday
[newzzero] 9:45 am: ha!
[Jarrod] 9:46 am: So, does anyone really feel the Cards can go 11-5 and
get to the NFC championship game?  That was my pre season
prediction.
[zonaman] 9:46 am: that means 4-2 the rest of the way
[zonaman] 9:46 am: i dont have a schedule in front of me, how many
home games left?
[newzzero] 9:47 am: we play the rams, and the seahawks
again…regardless of if its home or away we should get those.
[Jarrod] 9:47 am: 4 more  giants rams vikes and sea hawks  road
against NE and Phily
[zonaman] 9:48 am: cards playin in the cold in phily and NE huh, theres
your two losses
[Jarrod] 9:48 am: i say win against St Louis, MIn, Sea, PHi  lose
against NYG and NE
[zonaman] 9:48 am: rams, vikes, seahawks
[zonaman] 9:48 am: all winable
[zonaman] 9:48 am: giants
[zonaman] 9:49 am: this is where they prove their worth
[zonaman] 9:49 am: cards can prove to the world they are for real next
sunday
[Jarrod] 9:49 am: exactly-  if they are for real they should win one on the
road out east in the winter..
[zonaman] 9:49 am: yes they need one on the road
[zonaman] 9:50 am: they should be thinking homefield advantage
[zonaman] 9:50 am: cuz they aint winnin in NY
[newzzero] 9:50 am: THANKSGIVING!
[Jarrod] 9:51 am: That is this weekends game- homefield advantage
Funny how now that the Cards are worth a damn, every week seems
like an “important” game
[zonaman] 9:52 am: every game is important, at least when you are
tryin to get homefield
[zonaman] 9:52 am: each game has its own meaning
[newzzero] 9:52 am: With the Cardinals past, everygame IS important!
[Jarrod] 9:52 am: It is kind of nice to be in November and not thinkign
about teh Suns at all..
[zonaman] 9:52 am: cards lost 5 in a row in seattle
[zonaman] 9:52 am: so yesterday was a big game
[zonaman] 9:53 am: cards have been bad on MNF, so last week was a
big game
[zonaman] 9:53 am: next week NY is in AZ for the first time since they
beat the Pats, and they have the best record in the NFC
[zonaman] 9:53 am: so yeah, big game
[zonaman] 9:54 am: then they have a short week and travel to philly for
a thursday night game
[zonaman] 9:54 am: gonna be cold!
[zonaman] 9:54 am: thats the road game they have to win
[Jarrod] 9:54 am: This is exciting- if the Cards win, look for a crazy
scene
[zonaman] 9:54 am: i expect them to go undefeated against our division
the rest of the way
[zonaman] 9:54 am: as they have thus far
[Jarrod] 9:55 am: why not- they all suck LOL
[zonaman] 9:55 am: minnesota can be a trap game
[zonaman] 9:55 am: they have talent and can surprise people
[Jarrod] 9:55 am: nah, i say that is teh easiest game the rest of teh way
[zonaman] 9:55 am: peterson is a game changer
[zonaman] 9:55 am: barrian can change a game
[Jarrod] 9:56 am: I LOVE Peterson
[Jarrod] 9:56 am: not in that way of course
[Sunsmortman] 9:56 am: jj is your secret wepon
[zonaman] 9:56 am: ferrotte, though old, can still find them down field
[zonaman] 9:56 am: and MIN has a good defense
[zonaman] 9:56 am: cards need to be careful with MIN
[Jarrod] 9:56 am: I think the defense in Minn is underrated because the
offense doesnt score enough. does that make sense?
[zonaman] 9:57 am: spread them out
[zonaman] 9:57 am: all that matters is wins and losses, everything is
overlooked if you dont win

[zonaman] 9:58 am: cards have been winning ugly havent they
