Granite Bay Apartment Homes wasn’t paying their water bill and all of their tenants were almost left without running water. Have you been a victim of a landlord/tenant dispute?
Wasn’t Barack Obama about hope and change? Why’s he sound like he’s all about fear and panic now?
Was Joe too harsh in saying a Mesa Mom should be charged with negligence for the death of the family’s two week old child at the hands of their chow chow?

First of All… NO I DO NOT THINK YOU ERRORED IN DISCUSSING OR ASKING THE QUESTIONS THE PREVIOUS NIGHT!!
Joe, I am not sure what you were suggesting that (the woman who’s baby was killed by the Chow)she should be charged with? Negligent homicide, harboring a dangerous animal? What would you have for her? As far as the prosecution for the unfortunate drownings that take place every year…I agree, there are laws in place for fencing, locking gates, height of fences etc, but if the kid is ingenius enough or capable of getting through, over or otherwise into that fenced area, do you charge the parent if that child just got out of sight for just long enough to drown after completing the maze that has been installed by the law makers of our state? Should we charge the law makers for that drowning?
So if the dog has no history of violence, fighting, biting, and has been a loyal trustworthy dog for the owner, then what? Do you charge the parents for? Being stupid? Most of us know that kids cannot be left alone at that age or several months from that age with any dog, horse, sibling whatever, as you and a caller agreed no one takes better care of your kids than you and stuff happens, dogs get excited and knock things over, it could have happened that way… and would we be talking about it as often and as much as we are now?
So, tragedy for the baby certainly, the Mom, Dad and the entire family that watched the pregancy through with or around these folks! If it were a babysitter I would feel the same way, lots of emotion, long life of guilt and therapists no matter how you slice it.
Here is the kicker Joe, I heard your dog trainor from cave creek whom blanketed all dogs and especially Chows (their a fighting dog) That’s crap read up on them for pete’s sake! These dogs were once only in Royal possession, protecting palaces, and estates from bear and lion, then they were the only Vegan canines in the world I believe as they were fed only the best grains and vegetables as the were raised to be eaten by the chinese in early history. Now, I am no dog trainor, I am simply a guy with a passion for animals, these animals, I have been rescuing “Chows” and only chows for 20+ years, I have places some one thousand yes, 1000 dogs over 20 years. I have never had a report of a biter, a fighter or a killer? I have taken dogs that were beaten, abused, malnourished, thrown out of cars while still chained up, and the worst is that they are put down right behind the Pit Bulls when they show up in the pound?? Yea, they get a good three days before they go into the mass gas chamber at your local Humane doggy pound here and everywhere else in the country. So when a story like this breaks, it means a ton of these dogs are going to be abandoned and then picked up and uthanized, which upsets me tremendously.
Ok, now that I am past the emotional part of why this is bad for this breed, I personally have 9, yes, nine chows at my home, they are all special cases that I have picked up over the years and they range in age from 6 yrs to 14 yrs, and they are all free to be where they want in my house while we are at home, and that includes time with my nine year old daughter, and my 1 year old boy. I, however, did not feel comfortable leaving my 2 week, or 6 month old with these animals without strict supervision and protection at all times. We practice respect for the animals with our kids, and we practice respect for our kids with our animals. The animals must know that the children come before them, they are loved and kept close to us as Alpha’s and that continues when I am gone and my Wife is at home. The difference is that my Wife has her own structure for the animals when I am not there, which puts her in an alpha position. This keeps the dominance at an even keel, sometimes this is disturbed for unknown, or unseen reasons and the dogs will have an internal struggle for position in the pack.
I tell you all of this because I suppose this is just as likely a location for something as tragic to happen to my family as did this woman’s but I wouldn’t expect to find myself in a courtroom defending myself over negligence charges
This is a continuation of the previous comment….I would only find it reasonable to be charged if I had broken specific laws pertaining to the result of death in this case.
Joe, we have children over all the time, and we keep the dogs seperated from them for a reason, we have gates at our baby’s room and at our kitchen and bedrooms so we can keep them out should we choose to do so. We also have ducks, rabbits and birds that are always with in inches of these dogs and we don’t have problems. As much as we trust the dogs we also think to protect others from them as a rule, likely as self preservation as much as common sense!
This entire comment is based on my belief that our animals are unpredictable at best, especially those of us who choose an animal like this one. They are laboriously loyal, don’t need a ton of exercise, have a tendency to lose hearing early and often have a disorder that results in very poor peripheral vision, all of these things make a chow a differnt type of pet, very smart, not easily trainable. They do not like being surprised from behind because of their vision and they aren’t a LABRADOR. I hope everyone that wants a dog does some real research on the breed to determine if it’s compatable for you because there are so many dogs out there with out homes we do not need any more!
In Closing…
These people should have never left the baby near the dog with out constant supervision until the age of 1 probably, no matter how tired, how emotionally out of whack from the pregancy, or alone while the father was at work. They paid a price that can’t be understood by many, I hope the lesson is clear, not the dog, not the baby, the parent was at fault, but accidents happen and this one is one of the most unfortunate I have heard, my Wife and I are very sullen for this family and we hope we nor anyone else suffers this way for anyone’s mistakes?
PS. this is not the emotional pain that forgives the prosecution, just real honest forgiveness for a bad mistake that cannot be undone any other way.
Joe, you were right about everything that you said related to the 2 week old baby in Mesa. I am sure most people, including me would have pressed charges if it would’ve been a babysitter the one who neglected to take care/watch the baby 100% of the time. In my case, I would have at least tried to pressed charges simply because I would want an investigation to find out what really happened.
I feel sorry for the parents, but I feel even more sorry for the baby.
You have a great show, Joe. I listed to it from work four days out of the five days you broadcast.
