  1. 1 Joe

so… lemme get this straight: a judge shouldn’t factor empathy into a decision. it’s always the letter of the law, right?

so, let’s say you have a rapist who’s sitting in jail. and let’s say there’s the possibility that the rapist could be released due to a technicality. and lets say this comes down to the decision the judge makes.

there are the rapist’s victims out there, that peition the court, saying they fear for their safety if the rapist it released. does the judge, heaven forbid, “empathize” with the victims? does the judge feel their pain? of course, he wouldn’t want to cause them anymore pain.

is this judge being touchy-feely? is he or she being a liberal scumbag that undermines out judicial system by using empathy as part of the decision making process?

if the judge sticks to the letter of the law, and releases the rapist, then he or she is a liberal scumbag that undermines our judical system. how many dirty harry/charles bronson movies started off with this premise?

so, which is it? you can’t have it both ways? judges aren’t robots. victim impact statements impact sentencing. a judge has empthay for a victim if it’s a ten year old girl that’s been raped and beaten. who this sudden aversion to empathy? is this now right wing code for something new?

and, speaking of victims? right-wingers have cornered the market. listen to right wind talk radio, watch fox — all right wingers do is whine. they are the ultimate vitims. they’re being opporssed by the news media, the liveral elite, hollywood, let’s go down the list. glenn beck cries on air because he’s convinced he’s being hunted for sport. either it’s an act, which is just wierd, or beck genuinely believes it, which means he’s a little off.

i didn’t realize empathy was now evil. but, if you listen to right wing radio, our new supreme court nominee is a dumb racist. the guy who came up with that line of acctack, pure genius.
