KTAR’s Jim Cross has all the details from today’s courtroom proceedings in St. Johns. Still absent: the young suspect’s stepmother. Still to come: a psych evaluation for the boy.
An Ahwatukee man tried to confront a car thief, but had the tables turned on him in an ugly way. We’ll talk about the impulse to protect what’s yours.
When gas hit four dollars per gallon, we were all gung ho to go green and move to smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. Now that the price is back in the dollar-and-change range, we’re forgetting all about that. People don’t really want to give up their SUV’s and if they don’t have to, they won’t.
Some people think this spot on a Valley sidewalk is an apparition of the Virgin Mary. We’ll get your take on it and I’ll tell you how I interpret the messages of the Good Book.

Why punish the small guy who only making 8.00 an hour. If someone wants to buy an SUV triple the taxes on the car and send the extra money to the so called homeland security.
Joe! Choose to be a victim and aid criminals if you want for yourself, but don’t preach it from the radio pulpit, as it is wrong-headed. Crime is commited by criminals; some out of desperation but most as opportunity. They will only do what they believe they can get away with. How soon you forget the crimes of 9/11/2001, where the majority of potential victims on two of the three aircraft gave in and did what they were told. They were taught to do this, and it was wrong. What was the price of that choice?! Refuse to be a victim. Be armed, trained, and aware. For automobiles, the Autolock is the best passive security btw. Make them choose another line of ‘work’. Parents get on the ball and stop making more criminals. Thanx.
Joe, I was listening to your show last night at work, and couldn’t believe the macho callers who, one by one, would have had one foot in a jail cell if they would have acted in the typical, male-egotistical way they said they would. I don’t claim to know all the gun laws in Arizona, but I do own a handgun, and took the time to go through the “CCW,” or “Concealed Carry Permit” class, an eight-hour class, given at a local gun shop, by ex-lawmen, that went over the gun laws of Az. Mostly, the class covered when, and under what circumstances could a person shoot another person, or for that matter, even SHOW a dangerous weapon to a person, even a person who was attempting to steal your car! The jist of the scenario one of the “macho” callers said last night was that we, as Americans, have the right to protect our property, and our way of life. Yet, the Az. gun law states that you can ONLY pull a gun on another person, if you feel your life is in IMMEDIATE danger, and you have no other means of escape. Also, the best way to determine if deadly force is needed is to ask yourself, “what is the penalty for the crime being commited,” which, in the scenario of one of your callers last night was “car theft,” and the answer is: “jail time,” NOT DEADLY FORCE! The ONLY time deadly force is justified, is when you have no other avenue of escape, and you feel your life is in IMMEDIATE danger. I have a copy of the book: “The Arizona Gun Owner’s Guide,” by Alan Korwin, and I find it makes good bathroom reading while using the “facilities.” I urge ALL gun owners, and potential gun owners, to take a CCW class immediately after purchasing a gun, and to read-up on the Az. gun laws before taking the law into your own hands. Sometimes, the law could backfire on you, and the criminal could become the victom, and YOU could become the criminal, according to the Az. gun laws! Love your shows Joe!
