LA Times: It’s getting hard out there for illegal immigrants

February 22, 2008

The Los Angeles Times writes this today:

It’s getting ugly out there for illegal immigrants. States and cities are cracking down with harsh new ordinances, and the courts are upholding them. Not only are deportations at record highs, but immigrants are being detained at places previously understood to be off-limits, such as schools. The debate about illegal immigration, labor, social justice and international trade has devolved into open season on illegal immigrants.

Let us remind ourselves that states and cities are cracking down on their own because the Federal Government and our Washington politicians will not lead on the issue. It’s clear people want something down about illegal immigration. State and city leaders know this. Even here in Phoenix, Mayor Phil Gordon recognized it. Our state lawmakers recognized it. And they did something about it. Other states are following. Oklahoma, New Jersey, Indiana, Missouri and several others are doing what they can to curb the problem.

The Times goes even further:

With the spirit of Dred Scott hovering over his pen, Judge James H. Payne wrote that illegal immigrants do not have the right to sue: “An illegal alien, in willful violation of federal immigration law, is without standing to challenge the constitutionality of a state law, when compliance with federal law would absolve the illegal alien’s constitutional dilemma.”

Wow. Did they really just do that? This is what has become of the illegal immigration debate. Scary. Should we mistreat people because they are here illegally. Of course not. Should we remind them that there are legal processes to come to the United States?

Ankarlo and his insidious sidekicks like to give only one side of the story. I have researched the original publication in the LA Times and these biased “talk show hosts” have left out the final paragraph that summarizes the real spirit of the journalist.

And I quote from the original publication:

“That illegal immigrants living in the United States place an economic burden on schools, hospitals, prisons and other public services is undeniable, but it’s also true that they contribute to our economy and our society in myriad ways. Bullying them into leaving is counterproductive and downright mean. It’s also shortsighted. Many immigrant families are blended, made up of legal immigrants, illegal ones and U.S.-born citizens. Harsh laws and deportations may satisfy the popular hunger for instantaneous immigration reform, but the result will be a legacy of anguish and resentment among millions of people who aren’t going anywhere. ”

    Enough said….

I am upset that Janet Napolitano has stated on CBS Face the Nation that she is casting her super delegate vote for Barack Obama instead of voting as her state voted, for Hillary Clinton. I think she is voting for a cabinet position, what do you think??

Why don’t you talk about the fact there is another side of the story such Income tax being withheld for a lot of Immigratens? A vast majority of Illegals pay federal and state income tax. Even if they have a fake social security the company is requied to take this taxes out of theie wages. There is an office in Virginia that has collected roughly $2.1 Billion dollars in taxes that can not be matched to social security numbers beacuse they are fake. Where is all that money? It is being put into the Social Security fund. The goverment know this that is why Your own president Bush said we will NOT DEPORT 11 to 12 million Illegals. It is true that ther are some illigals that come here are involved in crimes and deal with drugs but not all of them. The Goverment should open some visas have everyone pass a through inspection and fine them a reasonable amount of money. A vast majority of the people want to work and live in the Greatest country in the world if given the opportunity. That is why theys risk their lives crossing the dessert in the summer!

I think enforcing the law is the way to deal with the problem. I don’t believe that on a personal level we should mistreat individuals. But as a society when do we stop giving? Maybe if we made our youth work harder instead of giving them everything many of the so called contributions the illegals are making would be made by americans.

    Wake up people.

Mr. Ankarol’s views are right on track with mainstream American views. What part of illegal do you not understand? Look millions of people from all over the world aspire to come and reside in the United States. We can accept only a limited number each year and you must patiently wait in line like everyone else if you want admittance. Think the Soviet block Cold War in reverse. Where the Soviet regimes aspired to keep folks IN their country with a wall, we are attempting to keep folks OUT. Sorry folks, get in line like everyone else. Fill out the forms, pay the dues and you will be considered.
How do you get 20 million illegals to go home? NO JOBS. NO Housing. Take these two away and trust me they’ll head home in a New York minute. How to enforce? No need to… just slam down DRACONIAN fines and seizures of personal and corporate property of AMERICAN citizens who subvert our own laws on the books. You rent, lease or otherwise harbor an illegal immigrant and bingo, you LOSE your property. You hire the same and BINGO, you lose your business operating permit, etc. No real need to hire massive buses, cargo airplanes to take these folks home. They will find their way back to their motherland on their own. Enforce our laws already on the books. Problem solved.
