Arpaio: No Racial Profiling
Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s crackdown on illegal immigration may have only just begun in the East Valley, with last week’s patrols in the town of Guadalupe.State lawmakers from the East Valley, led by Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, have sent the sheriff a letter inviting him to their district, and Arpaio said Mesa might be next on his list.Arpaio said he is not bothered by accusations of racial profiling that have come from protesters of his special patrols at two Phoenix locations where day laborers gather and in Guadalupe.
“We got other enforcement that we are doing, not just illegal immigration,” he said. “That’s just a small part of our operation… We stop everybody. I’m an equal opportunity guy. I lock up everybody.”
Arpaio said he was not surprised to learn that he has the backing of Matthew Allen, the newly-named head of of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in Arizona. Allen said Arpaio’s sweeps do not violate his agreement with the feds.
“We know,” the sheriff said. “We’ve been doing this for a year, this is our year anniversary. We know how to operate, regardless of all our critics.”
One of those critics has been Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris, whom Arpaio has accused of dragging his feet on signing a new police policy that would allow Phoenix officers to call ICE when they encounter a criminal suspect who appears to be an illegal immigrant.
Asked about Arpaio’s claims, Harris said, “My comment is there’s just no comment.”
Harris said the new procedures “have been finalized, and they will be due out within the next few weeks.”
Arpaio responded, “That’s great. Then he’ll be able to assist me more in enforcing the illegal immigration laws in the City of Phoenix.”
Arpaio do anything fot money , I was at a casino and he was promoting poker in his uniform. That disgrace for the state.
“I arrest Everybody, I’m an equal opportunity guy” and Ankarlo supports this looney. And he is wondering why non-white people want him off the air on ASU buses. Ankarlo has the right as an American to support anybody he wants. But when he proudly supports on the air Arpaio’s racially profiling it shouldn’t be that surprising that ASU (an institution of learning) and a liberal entity to be totally against his racial remarks. It’s okay for Ankarlo to hate Obama, but don’t trash Sen. Obama on the air. The only support Ankarlo has is from conservatives because he himseld is a Republican. So why is he so surprised? America is not 100% conservative, sorry to brake the news buddy. I’m a hispanic legal immigrant and I still find Arpaio’s actions offensive. I have no problems with Ankarlo because he has the right to believe whatever he wants, it’s a FREE country. I just don’t understand why is he so surprised that some people might not like him???? Stop whinning so much, Ankarlo.

The following is a news release from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced that Arturo Nevarez-Ugarte, 34, has been sentenced to 31 years in prison for his participation in a violent drop house. The sentence was issued in the courtroom of Commissioner Julie Newell on April 11, 2008. Nevarez-Ugarte was found guilty by a jury on March 12, 2008 of the following charges:
- Two counts of Armed Robbery, a class two dangerous felony
- Two counts of Theft by Extortion, a class two dangerous felony
- Two counts of Kidnapping, a class two dangerous felony
According to the Phoenix Police Department probable cause statement, on September 21, 2007, the defendant, along with several other coyotes, participated in the kidnapping, extortion and armed robbery of approximately 17 victims in a drop house located at 1720 N. 94th Drive in Phoenix. After several hours, the victims managed to fight their way out of the house and took to the surrounding neighborhood looking for help. The defendant was arrested later the same day after being identified by the victims.
The Illegal Immigration Prevention and Apprehension Co-op Team, better known as IIMPACT, conducted the investigation. IIMPACT includes Phoenix Police, The Department of Public Safety, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Arizona Financial Crimes Task Force. IIMPACT was established a year ago to target the criminal syndicates that profit from human smuggling.
Nevarez-Ugarte was indicted on October 1, 2007. Deputy County Attorney Michael Anderson prosecuted the case.
Thomas stated, “This case represents our efforts with local law enforcement to ensure that those who endanger neighborhoods by operating drop houses are properly punished
We will all look back 20 years from now and be embarrased at what Sheriff Joe is doing. He says its “his moral obligation and its the law”. It was “the law” back in the mid 1800’s to round up escaped slaves and return them to there owners for a lashing or even worst death by hanging.
What ever happened to humanity in this country. How is it fair a friend of mine(who has lived here since she was 8 months old and is 31 yrs old now) is sitting in a Florence prison and is waiting to be deported. She is married and a loving mother of 2. She is a very sincere and caring person. She is a homeowner and files and pays all her tax. Her husband participated in Rebuilding Arizona last week (which is a charity that helps elderly disabled citizens fix up thier houses).
These are great people that deserve atleast a work visa. Instead Sheriff Joe wants to throw the baby out with the bath water.
Many hate groups are stirring up support by creating fear in your average person. The same tactic that government uses when they want to sway voters opninions. Deep down this is racism and most people don’t reconize it.
There are solutions to this problem if most could open thier minds. Make employers put up a $10,000. to $15,000. bond to sponsor each undocumented employee. This would make everbody accountable for themselves and pull the good imigrants from the shadow of the subculture we created.
Many of these imigarants are an enourmous asset to our society and I hope people start realizing this before its too late.
I think it is great that Arizona has a Sheriff that goes on Indian Land and arrested women whom he thinks are illegal immigrants. I think it is awesome for the world to see mexican women get pulled over and grilled as though it was 1960 all over again and they were black women going to the Circle K near them. It is so great to see people surround this sheriff as though he is the 2nd Covenant coming to escort all the brown people out Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler.
I think it is great to see 20,000 hispanic voters, or Mexican American Voters with a State Issued Drivers License or State Issued Identification card be denied when voting. I think it is great to see Mexican American people that are 3rd generation that actually didn’t complete their immigration status and now their own children stand down when immigrants stand up.
I think it is outstanding to see our State become the beacon of no hope. I think it is outstanding that we have Business Sanctions laws that really effected the ones that thought it would bring black people back to the watermelon fields, and cabbage patches in Yuma.
We have to be so proud of our Legislative leadership, our Governor, County Attorney and Sheriff Joe’s efforts to rid Arizona of those pesky people who built it.
I’m proud to know that a hispanic immigrant built my house as I watched him be arrested and “attest” to being here illegally for over 25 years. But he got an option to join the military instead of being dropped off next to a college kid from ASU who speaks English in a town that renders the ones that do. It’s like a State sponsored terrorism, but only on the borders of Mexico.
We have to be proud that people are willing to actually pick up the phone and call a “immigrant hotline” and profile their neighbor after a nice walk around the block.
It will be a better day when people born after 1964 get a real id or a tatoo from “skywatch” so that we don’t have to card them every time they want to buy toilet paper at their nearest Circle K stores in the valley.
It will be a better day when our moms, go to register their cars and get a Sheriff Joe, prove your age form to take to your local Social Security Administration office to get back up that you are actually 65 because you may have fibbed to get a job when you were 14 and it doesn’t match.
I think it is great and Arizona is shining bright.
So Hats off to you Mayor Gordon, going on Indian Reservations in America is still a FEDERAL OFFENSE as SBILL 1639 didn’t pass and our sherriff and county attorney is just p’oed beyond reality attempting to justify their RATCHED UP immigration numbers to get them some GRANT MONEY TO cover up all of their monetary dealings!

I am a native Born Arizona’on, I love the ankarlo show and Ktar, sems to me Joe is doing his job, there are some wrongs on both side of this issue, but to me and mine we back the sherrif, I think we are way past the time to start a recall on mayer Phill, why it has not been started already I am surprized. I live in north phoenix, we need Joe here alot more, I take a person for them as a person not the color of there skin, but law is law, they break the law comming here, time to clean up the mess, but lets start at the source recall the mayer, this cheap labor for companys is out of hand, I want Arizona back, safe and whole, clean hose get rid of the Mayer and the police cheif for a start.
