Today on Ankarlo Mornings: Should any public agencies be allowed to advertise even for the public good? The Ankarlo team has a debate. Ankarlo, Darrin, and Diane say yes. Rob, on the other hand, doesn’t like the idea. County Attorney candidate Gerald Richard called in to join the discussion.

Steven Camarota from the Center For Immigration Studies explains his new findings. America’s illegal immigration population has dropped 11% largely due to stepped up enforcement.

Ankarlo also wonders today, why John McCain’s new ad (found in the videos section of this website) has become about race.

Investigative journalist Benjamin Dover talks to Ankarlo about the real estate bailout bill and NASA is paying people to stay in bed for 3 months!

Today on Ankarlo Mornings: Steve Camarota from the Centers for Immigration Studies has released a new report that says there are less illegal immigrants crossing the border due to stepped up enforcement policies. Illegal immigration is down 11%.

ICE has a new program called, “Operation Scheduled Departure.” It will allow illegals to turn themselves in voluntarily for deportation. How many do you think will line up?

The economy grew at a 1.9% clip in the second quarter this year. It’s lower than the 2.4% analysts predicted, but at least it is growth. Shell reports second quarter profits of $11.56 billion, Exxon hits $11.68 billion.

RICO funds can educate

The governor has done it. The mayor has done it. The attorney general has also. But, since the county attorney has also done it while sponsoring my book tour—now it’s apparently a big story. We are talking about advertising.

A democrat challenger to Andrew Thomas—needing a boost in the polls since most have no idea who he is, held a press conference this week to complain about KTAR’s acceptance of advertising dollars from Phoenix’s lawyer. Thomas has taken a tough stance on illegal immigration and what the related violent crimes from this issue are doing to Maricopa County. He has routinely bought media time to inform citizens about the related issues (drop houses, violent crime, human smuggling, etc).

One of the responsibilities of a public office is to educate “We The People” about their mission and what we can be doing to help. My new book, Another Man’s Sombrero covers every aspect of the illegal immigration issue fairly. The book is non-partisan and apolitical. Since the message I wrote about is similar to the one the office of the county attorney believes we must hear it made sense for a joint effort. But, because a competing politician turned it into an event people now believe it was a wrong or compromised decision? Does this mean, “We The People” do not want elected officials to educate us on issues? And if we do, what are we comfortable with? Valid questions during an election year for sure.

Today on Ankarlo Mornings: County Attorney Andrew Thomas is taking some heat from some for sponsoring the Another Man’s Sombrero tour. Ankarlo explains why the suggestion is way off. Mayor Phil Gordon is calling out Sheriff Joe Arpaio in his trip to Washington, D.C. and inviting the mass media to come to Phoenix and keep an eye on the Sheriff.

Also, Michael Hunter runs aninconvenienguilttrip.com. He says Al Gore is all washed up. Hunter’s website is actually working with the gas companies to give you free gas. All you have to do is send in $100 in same-brand gas receipts a month to receive a $25 gift card.

The rumors have been swirling about Apple CEO Steve Jobs. He appeared at a press conference to talk about the new iPhone and looked skinny. People started talking about his health and for the sake of the shareholders, should company CEO’s be as public as our politicians?

The Mayor Phil Gordon, Sheriff Joe Arpaio fight continues. Gordon is seeking a national journalism spotlight focused on Arpaio. He is urging journalists from around the country to flood Phoenix to tell the real story of Arpaio. Sounds like an effort to keep Sheriff Joe from winning the election this fall.

A former household name, Mr. T. is in the news this week for something that has little to do with him but a lot to say about us. Seems the mow hawked wonder made a Snickers commercial where he shoots the popular candy bar from an air gun while driving down the street.

The target is a lanky guy with yellow shorts who is speed walking. As the man’s hips rock back and forth in that power walker sort of way Mr. T comes flying by in his make shift military vehicle shouting, “You a disgrace to the Man Race. It’s time you run like a real man. Take that speed walker.”

You’ll never see that commercial on television because it was banned as soon as it left the editing room. Gay rights activists said it made fun of homosexuals and they applied the pressure and poof—no Snickers commercial. Folks, there wasn’t even a suggestion about homosexuals. None. If they had a problem—it’s their own problem, not the ads.

So what does this say about us? One, we are now programmed to cry about almost everything in our lives—someone is offended all the time and two, we continue to allow special interest groups control what we say, hear and see. Whatever happened to having thick skin? And whatever happened to freedom?

Today on Ankarlo Mornings: New housing numbers show prices dipping over 20% in May for Phoenix, Las Vegas and Miami. When will they bounce back? The housing crisis is so bad an Extreme Make Over house from the hit show on ABC is up for foreclosure. Turns out the owners mortgaged the house in order to invest in a construction business. The business failed and they are out of a home. How can you mortgage something, no matter what the purpose, that was donated to and built by volunteers?

Also, a Mr. T. “Snickers” commercial is so offensive it has been banned from television. Why? Because Mr. T. shoots “Snickers” bars from a make shift gun at a speed walker while saying, “you’re a disgrace to the man race.” Keep crying.

In the final hour, Ankarlo says we let our children use the internet too much.
