Risk it All?

September 30, 2008

This economic decision facing Congress and Americans in general is perhaps the most important one we will make in our lifetimes, if not in the history of this nation.  A swing has happened with citizens where more and more are now embracing the idea that it might just be okay to let the economy crash and burn—even if that means another Great Depression.  The idea actually has some merit—our economy is full of greedy leaders, an out-of-control Wall Street and people with $30,000 incomes buying million dollar mansions so why not just let it fail completely and let the correction begin.   It’s an ambitious idea but with the decision comes a great price.  If we really let the economy tank then the job you’re driving to will most likely be gone or at least good chunk of the people you work with will be gone.  Kids won’t be in college because there will be no student loans.  The grocery store you visit, if it’s still there, will have over priced and limited items on the shelf.  And starving people will knock on your doors—daily.  The list goes on but I’ve painted the picture.  We often complain about the big government programs that originated with the first Great Depression so this would certainly be a do-over.  A couple points:  are you really willing to risk it all and will you promise to keep the government small once we re-emerge in several years? Ankarlo’s Take is written for broadcast.  You can hear Ankarlo’s Take every weekday morning at 7:20 during Arizona’s Morning News on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR

Today on Ankarlo Mornings: The economy once again takes center stage. After the Dow drops almost 800 points what does that mean for you? Harry Dent gives you some investment ideas. The bottom line he says is wait this thing out, but be careful what you buy now. Also, what are the politicians doing taking a day off? Yes, it’s Rosh Hashana. But, Ankarlo wants them to work on Christmas if that’s what it takes.

Another topic of discussion: How do you explain this to your children?

Partisanship Blocks Bailout.

September 29, 2008

When Monday’s House of Representatives’ vote tally concluded the nays outweighed the yeas and the economic bailout legislation crashed and burned as the Dow Jones plummeted.  No doubt, many members of congress voted against it because “We the People” are tired of bailing out stupid people making very stupid decisions.  But the political reasons should not be ignored, especially when it comes to the democrats’ handling of the situation.  Early Monday, it appeared the votes were there when Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided to take partisan shots at President Bush—before the vote.  You want to talk about a roomful of angry Republicans!  Then, Congressman Barney Frank chose to lecture the legislators and all bets were off as GOPer’s voted 2-1 against the bill.  Especially, since it was Frank, years ago, who pushed for the Community Reinvestment Act which gave houses to anyone and everyone regardless of credit. No doubt, the president wasn’t happy but the speaker lost even more credibility by playing that partisan card when she should have been kissing butt.  Now we get to watch the process repeat itself and I for one am hoping fixes to the errors in the 110 page document will be corrected and certain politicians will keep their mouths shut!Ankarlo’s Take is written for broadcast.  You can hear Ankarlo’s Take below and live at 7:20 during Arizona’s Morning News on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR.

Today on Ankarlo Mornings:  The media and Saturday Night Live are once again trying to paint Gov. Sarah Palin, another conservative, as a dummie.  They continue to say she isn’t qualified and isn’t smart enough.  Typical.

Ankarlo talks about Obama’s truth sqauds and how they affect your rights.

Then the economy takes center stage as the House of Representatives rejects the bailout bill.  Congressman John Shadegg joins Ankarlo.  He voted against the bill saying there are needs for significant improvements.  In fact, Shadegg says if a couple of amendments were added the Republicans would be happy to vote for it and could even do it later today.  Also, Byron Schlomach from the Goldwater Institute says no bill is needed and J.D. Foster from the Heritage Foundation explains what this all means to us.  All that and an extra hour of Ankarlo!

Bailout not the only way

September 26, 2008

The bailout.  I don’t know how many times I’ve received email messages that contain links to newspaper articles writing years ago, most notably 1999 and 2003, about the democrats and their decisions caused this economic crisis.  Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid continually bombard us with headlines that scream how this was all caused by the republicans.  In fact, when challenged, Speaker Pelosi adamantly lunged forward with her body language and railed on the fact that it was all Bush’s fault.  It was weeks ago when I first shared details I had learned about the formation of Freddie and Fannie, deregulation,  new and incoherent banking instruments and the like and from all I’ve learned—both sides are equally to blame.  Equally.  The great thing about America is that we are a Representative Republic and the bad thing about this country is that we’re a Representative Republic.  We count on politicians to do our bidding and then forget to follow up.  If this economic kick-in-the-pants can do anything for us it is to force us—for the first time in a long time—to pay attention to things going on in the world and to challenge words and promises of our elected many.  At this point, the name calling and blame games are wrong and unpatriotic so these leaders need to stop it and we need to hit them all hard with the message that we are once again engaged and will not tolerate their stunts any longer.

Financial Mess. Smile!

September 26, 2008

Let’s talk about the great Americans who have steadily been law abiding and tax-paying people who have never missed a payment.  Because the president did and now some of you are writing to ask me what’s in it for you with this economic bailout.

Let me answer you with a question: Have you ever been dragged into a company staff meeting and the boss screams about a broken system or the complaints of terrible customer service or corruption that might lead to jail?  And, while you’re sitting at the conference table as your co-workers wonder who’s to blame or who caused a late breaking scandal you quietly begin to smile?  You do it on the inside because you know that nothing the boss is saying applies to you.  It’s a wonderful sense of satisfaction and security mixed with a healthy dose of pride because you know in your heart of hearts that you are not caught up in any of it.  This bailout is aimed at helping the nation repair problems caused by so many bad decisions by so many people but those of you who have done it the right way—smile.  Smile broadly and with confidence.  That you know you have done it well and right—that is what’s in it for you.Ankarlo’s Take is written for broadcast.  You can hear Ankarlo’s Take every morning at 7:20 am during Arizona’s Morning News on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR.
