How Did Financial Mess Happen?

September 25, 2008

Today on Ankarlo Mornings:  Several of us have questions about this economic bailout.  What if the bailout plan money was actually given to taxpayers instead of buying these bad assests?  Ankarlo ponders that question and explores it with Economist David John from the Heritage Foundation.

McCain trying to skip the debates was a total poltical move.  But, a brilliant strategy.  Even former President Bill Clinton defended the decision today.  Ankarlo comments.

Also, Fritz Wenzel from Zogby gives us the latest poll numbers about the economy and the Presidental race.  And Dr. Sam Benjamin explain why he thinks this economic crisis could cause major problems for our health care system.

Time to Lead.

September 25, 2008

Politicians.  Don’t you just love politicians?  And, political posturing.   This is exactly what John McCain is doing with his plans to suspend his campaign in order to focus on the economy.  Oh, and he said he’s game to delay Friday’s debate with Obama for the same reason.  Come on senator, this is theatrics and sadly, some of us won’t have a clue.

No doubt the Arizona legislator means well and really does want to make a difference, and remember, he co-sponsored the legislation three years ago to regulate financial entities like Freddie and Fannie but this is over-the-top.  And so is the Illinois’ senator’s reaction when he said he is showing up for the debate and fully expects McCain to do the same thing.  We’re six weeks away from making a major decision about this country’s future and since John McCain has somehow lost points after the financial debacle—because Obama would be better for the economy, go figure, he is pulling out all the stops. Gentlemen, the chess moves make sense for your campaigns but do you think you both could give it a rest –because it’s getting old—especially now!Ankarlo’s Take is written for broadcast.  You can hear Ankarlo’s Take every weekday morning at 7:20 during Arizona’s Morning News on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR.

Official Press Release:

Not since the Civil War has America been so divided over such a seemingly unsolvable issue as U.S. immigration policy.

The president and congress are at an impasse, while vigilante groups patrol our nation’s borders looking for one of the million yearly invaders. Why are 20 million people disregarding America’s sovereign borders and laws to come to this country? Popular radio host Darrell Ankarlo follows the lives of several Mexican citizens as they contemplate their existence south of the border, their temptation to sneak into America, and what waits for them here. To understand the issue first-hand, Ankarlo stared down gun barrels, was caught in the middle of a drug-lord showdown, and then wandered the Arizona desert after illegally sneaking back into America. Another Man’s Sombrero explores issues raised by these personal stories and offers perspectives-often contradictory-from U.S. citizens.

Ankarlo recognized

September 25, 2008

Darrell Ankarlo has been recognized as a “Hometown Hero” by radio industry leaders.

From the news release:

“While the most casual talk fans can easily recite the names of some of the format’s biggest national stars, like Rush, Hannity, Dr. Laura, Imus, or Savage, in cities and towns across America there are literally dozens of local talk radio stars who may not be well known to the national press, but who are honest-to-God ‘hometown heroes’ to their respective stations and to their thousands of loyal listeners.  Hosts who are so firmly entrenched that their names are synonymous with the stations from which they broadcast and their lives inextricably intertwined into the fabric of the communities they serve.”

Congratulations to Ankarlo.  He has said he moved to Phoenix to become a part of this community.  Since he has arrived here Darrell brought 60 inner city children to a DBacks playoff game and with your help he has raised over $400,000 for SAARC.  He has also helped numerous locals including a Vietnam Veteran who fell behind on his truck payments due to his medical bills.  Darrell’s goal is to continue reaching out to make a real difference in the Valley.

The FBI is investigating Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and AIG.  Good news for Goldman Sachs.  Billionare Investor Warren Buffett will invest $5 billion in the bank saying, “Goldman Sachs is an exceptional institution.”  Bad credit card debt, car and student loand have been added (quietly) to the $700billion bailout.  Here is a good one:  A poll says Americans oppose bailouts of private companies, but they trust Obama more on the economy (he’s the king of handouts).

Newt Gingrich says kill the bailoutSo does Congressman Ron Paul.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, while in New York at the United Nations, says the American Empire is near collapse

The Supreme Court has issued a stay of execution for a Georgia man.  Troy Davis was accused of killing a police officer in 1989, but seven of the nine witnesses that testified against him have recanted their stories.  The Court will now consider Davis’ appeal.

A UMASS Chaplain wanted to let college students receive a couple of credits if they campaigned for Obama.  The school wisely decided this wasn’t a good idea.

It’s official.  The speed cameras have been okayed and they could start sending out tickets on Friday.  Yay.

Remember the teenage girl who got in a fight with her bus driver?  She has been found guilty and sentenced to 24 hours of community service.  I’m sure she has learned her lesson.

Payday Loan companies are bankrolling a ballot measure this year in order to keep their businesses in tact (by this I mean charging outrageous interest rates).

The state of Arizona is facing up to $1billion in budget shorfalls.

Instead of showing leadership, the Democratic Congress will let the offshore drilling ban expire.  The good news is that there will be more drilling.  The bad news is that instead of taking this up as an issue and helping to lead Congress punted.

Pakistan claims they have shot down a US military drone.  This on top of firing on US helicopters and warning they will shoot at the troops too.

Obama is trying to paint McCain as elitist because he has seven houses and thirteen cars.  Come on, can’t we just admit they are both elitist and get the vote on already?

Bailout or Handout?

September 23, 2008

I had a caller on Tuesday’s show who told me he owns a couple of businesses and several homes and has a nice bank account and just wanted to know what the government plans to give to him as a part of the economic bailout.  Now, grant it, the bailout is allegedly to save the world’s strongest and greatest economy but his point should not be misconstrued.  He was basically reminding all of us that as an American he deserved free stuff just like everyone else and wants his piece of the pie.  Touché.  Now you know why a disaster has been looming.  For instance, on Tuesday afternoon, our politicians said they want to add student loans, credit card loans, bankruptcy protection, car loans and mortgage protection directly to consumers along with about $50 billion in direct stimulus checks.   Kids, this is what put us on the brink to begin with.  As I’ve told you, based on what economists have explained to me, a bailout package is more than necessary to reset our path but by allowing our leaders to do to us what they’ve been doing for so long will; one, keep us programmed to expect to be coddled by government and two, will never let us shed this bad skin and embrace the old American values again.  Call your congressperson and demand they stop with the hand outs.  Now, more than ever, the People’s collective voice must be heard and our palms need to be facing down for a change!Ankarlo’s Take is written for broadcast.  You can hear Ankarlo’s Take every morning at 7:20 during Arizona’s Morning News on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR
