I’m no financial wizard, but why can’t homeowners that can’t make the payments ask the institutions that hold the paper on their houses to re-fi them at 40 or 50 year loans? Who stays in their house for 30 years anyway? The “banks” would make more intrest, the paymenst would be lower and folks wouldn’t have to lose their houses.
I bought my house last year (no down but 750+ FICA, got a 30 year fixed) I am making my payments, working 50-60 hours a week (single, no kids) and with all the talk of bailing out criminals and those who can’t do math jamming up the whole economy, wouldn’t a longer loan be simpler? Would it do enough to ease the burden on the homeowner? Would it help the financial institutions at all?
