Channel 5’s Morgan Loew has been investigating a video showing the murder of inmate Robert Cotton inside the fourth avenue jail. View Morgan Loew’s story here. The Cotton family is suing the Sheriff’s deparment and their lawyer, Joel Robbins joined Ankarlo this morning. Robbins explained why he was filing a $2million lawsuit on behalf of the Cotton family. Ankarlo has taken this story on full force to answer all of his and your questions. Below, listen to several interviews from all the players in this case.

Yesterday, Morgan Loew told his story on Ankarlo Mornings and the Sheriff’s Office responded with both spokesman Lisa Allen and Chief of Custody, Jerry Sheridan. Allen says the motives behind this are political. The Cotton family attorney, Joel Robbins supports Dan Saban for Sheriff and is friends with a CH 5 videographer. Sheridan said the officers inside the jail are not at fault. The Sheriff’s Office also think CH 5 doctored the video that aired during Loew’s report.

Ankarlo also visited the jail yesterday and he details what he saw on today’s show.
Also, today the Channel 5 news director Michelle Donaldson calls in to defend her station’s coverage. Donaldson also says her staff and reporter Morgan Loew tried to get interviews, but the Sheriff’s Office refused. In fact, she says that the Sheriff’s Office didn’t allow anyone into the jail until after their original story ran. Hear Ankarlo’s interview with Donaldson here.
A little off-topic. Having been in Joe’s (Durango) low security jail, I can say that there are 35-40 people per “Pod” who are open to each other 24/7. There are no cameras in the Pods, and there are plenty of fights. Serious fights are brought to the bathroom, out of view from the Pod’s windows so guards cannot see. Nationals, Blacks, and Whites live in their own groups. Other races (e.g., Asian, Mid-east Indian) stay with Whites. If a fight occurs between races, negotiation is made before the fight. Same race fights are immediate. I’ve witness serious “beat downs” where the inmate was brought to medical, after guards were alerted through their 20-30 min. walks. Ankarlo’s legitimate question of how many (of the 60) inmates who died were murdered draws into question of how many died “post beat down,” after being brought to medical. Albeit, I do support Sheriff Joe due to his stance on illegal immigration, and his jails are overwrought with Nationals mixed in the general population. What I didn’t like most about jail is the constant lack of and recirculated air, resulting in sickness –colds, flu, fever, hypoxia; all of which, may cause postponed death to some people.
I’ve heard both sides go back and forth. Seems like the good ol’ boys at the MCSO aren’t used to someone pressing the issue. We’ve heard every type of character assassination imaginable. Doctored video, political agenda, “sworn enemies” of sheriff Joe. Give me a break! Is anyone really buying this c&@p? What is so wrong about asking if this murder really had to happen? Usually when someone dies in jail, its invisible. This time, we could see what happened. And if that doesn’t open our eyes and force us to ask if we can do better, then shame on MCSO. BTW, I noticed the other TV stations are showing the same video. Are they also doctoring the tape? MCSO has lost all credibility.

Someone was murdered in Jail…really? By the Aryan Nation…Seriously? The only aspect of this story that is actually interesting or worth investigating is why a car thief was in a tank with Nazis. He must have gotten into some trouble while incarcerated to be housed with the worst of the worst.
I’m fairly positive jail sucks, that’s why i don’t break the law. But if i was incarcerated for some stupid reason, i would have probably followed the same path as this poor guy…..It starts like this; stupid crime….trying to prove myself in a couple of fights in general population…..running to safety “the Aryans”….not beating someone up as they asked him to…..and getting killed for not following the rules. That is basically what happened here.
I’m sorry for his family, honestly, but to file a lawsuit? Only in America. The major life insurance companies should market this as a way for families to get paid. Just get your brother in-law to commit a crime, get in a couple of fights, then disobey the largest prison gang in America. Next thing you know…your brother is dead and you have 2 million bucks.
Murders happen on an hourly basis in our Nations prisons. Wake up people. Don’t break the law…don’t go to jail…don’t get killed in jail. It’s that simple. I don’t blame Joe for this incident (who i will vote for again).
Take a step back…Violent murders happen in jails across America on a daily basis because we as a society have created a place to house violent individuals. Its much easier to stick them together than try and change their mindset.

…Continued…I’m truly sorry for this guys family….my sympathies & prayers are with them. The sad thing is, it’ll take 20 years for his killer to pay for his crime in the gas chamber. By then, he will have found Jesus and renounced the Aryan brotherhood, while in isolation. The prison staff who handcuffed this killer should have put a bullet in his head, then and there.
Our Sheriff has the toughest elected position in our state and he has done a great job over the years (i’m a fourth generation Arizonan). I will vote for Joe…again. Also, if our tax dollars continue to payout for lawsuits like this, America and all us tax payers will continue to suffer economically.
I would support any Sheriff whom took a prison murderer like this into the yard, in front of all other prisoners and put a bullet in his head. That would be justice. But for some reason we will undoubtedly put him on trial, send him to death row…and allow this killer to live another 20 years. UNREAL!
My prayers are with the victims family. but don’t play like he was completely innocent & try to collect my tax dollars as a settlement…unless you can prove he was housed with violent Nazis for no reason. I was possible assulted in febuary by the same inmate. I was stabed threw my nose and taken to the county hospital by the jail. I was stabed for the same reason this person died for . I would like to help the family with ther law suite. reason being i was housed in Durango pods. I asked to moved fearing the same assulte or worse attemted murder. I was attacted 15 minutes later with a pencile threw my nose . blood all over. After i returned from hospital i was torminted threw the window of my cell by this same person for 2 days. Why because the gaurdes locked me down and let the person that attact me clean the day room area for 3 hours each day . I pressed charges but they did nothing but move him to LBJ jail . I was released 3 days later but returned to jail on my same charges . Apon my return i asked if this same person was in custody and if they are planing to charge him with the assult that i suffered. They only moved him to medeuim sercurity LBJ . This could have saved the life of the this g uy if they would have taken the dude to max 4th ave. If enyone reads this please call me at 623 225 5685 . i will keep calling Ktar to tell my story . I have proff even got docters bills coming formy vist to a county hospital . I just foreard them to JOEs Office
