Veteran’s Day…
November 11, 2008
SSgt James Fawbush, SSgt Paul Culberson and Sgt Mike Zahnow joined Ankarlo on Veteran’s Day. They are part of an organization known as Project We Remember. Their goal is to “raise funds for individuals and non-profit organizations that provide support for our military men and women they and their families are in need beyond that which is provided by their respective service branch.”
So far, Project We Remember has provided an apartment across from the Phoenix V.A. hospital to allow a Veteran to stay with his family while he receives the care he needs.
You can help by providing monetary support on the website, ProjectWeRember.Org . I ask you to help because sometimes the V.A. care is just not enough. Let’s help our Servicemen and Women before they are homeless and let’s get them help for injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. It’s the help they have fought. Visit our friends at Project We Remember and donate what you can. Remember, every little bit helps.
They are also looking for businesses to sponsor their “Change for Change” drive. Project We Remember will come to your place of business, drop off a can and you can gather the employees and donate by dropping money into the bucket. For more information on how you can take part, contact Project We Remember at 480-306-4777. Please help where you can.

Darrell - Way to go, again, dude! This is exactly the type of radio segment we all need to bring this home. For all of us w/ no military experience, sucking up the benies of veteran’s sacrifices, the very least we can do is find a worthy group that helps these guys and support it. You’ve dedicated an entire segment for that very reason - thanks!
The test of a talk I gave on Sunday at a local church on what being a veteran means.
- A person who has served in the military force. Esp. one who has fought I a war. Dictionary.com
Technically that is the Jeopardy answer, but as in life that definition does not really do the nouns that refers to justice. So to understand the noun we need to make the motivations clear.
In the beginning mow folks that join the military do not join because of the ideals. They join because they need to fill a need, usually financial in nature. Through time, faster for some more than others, it becomes more.
So the question is now, “Why?” Why would anyone put themselves into harms way? What motivates a man to write a blank check that reads, “you may use me and my life in the way you need.” Really all we ask in return is that at the end of the day we can rest out head and say our actions were righteous.
I cannot tell you what the answer is for everyone, but for me the answer is basic. It is love and faith. The love that I have in me to protect that which is most important in life, in my case the best way I know to protect that is to defend the nation that provides the life my loved ones live.
Faith is the faith that the Centurion showed when he asked Jesus to heal his favored servant. When the commander asked Jesus to heal his servant Jesus stated he would travel to the commanders home and then heal the servant. When he made this statement the commander stated, that he was not worthy to receive Jesus in his home, and that all he had to do was say the word and his servant would be healed. Jesus marveled at the faith the commander had. But for those of us that have served it is the same faith that we put into those that have been placed in authority over us. We depend on those that would fight along side of us to carry out the actions they are told to, or those actions they state they will carry out.
In reality we have in the larger sense committed to something bigger than ourselves. An ideal that means more than the singular. A call to serve and save those that may not have the means to protect or save themselves.
In joining this band, this fraternity, we pledge ourselves in this work to complete it together. To be an army of one, made from many. It is to know that by letting and depending on another to help carry the load we are stronger in the work. In this, we give what we have to protect that which we love most.
I would leave you with this.
“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares about more than his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” –John Stuart Mill
Mr. Ankarlo and Mr. Hunter,
I personally would like to thank both of you from the bottom of my heart. You both have no idea what this meant to Project We Remember and Arizona Veterans. Our goal at Project We Remember is day by day and Veteran by Veteran. We strive to make Project We Remember a beacon of hope and possibilities for all Veterans suffering from the smallest to the largest issues here in the valley.
From all of us at Project We Remember a sincere and heartfelt thank you!
Sincerely
James Fawbush

Super Job! Glad to see the media supporting those who help our veterans. The freedoms we enjoy (and so often abuse) would not be possible were it not for the sacrifices of those who risked their lives for their countries’ call and for the safety of their fellow comrades! I will be donating here from Florida and encourage those who honor our veterans to do the same!
Thanks again.
It’s an immeasurable shame that the VA is not able to fully assist those who have given so much, but thankfully there are organizations like Project We Remember that are trying to fill in the gaps.
SSG Culberson and his colleagues are to be commended for their efforts to help those who need it most.

Great idea. We in Montgomery Alabama have been active in The Wounder Warrior
program and believe that is also helping vets across the nation.
What a worthwhile cause… the men and women who have been fighting for us, regardless of whether we believe in the cause, deserve our support. Without them, there would be no buffer that allows this country to enjoy the freedoms we do.
Watch the video– it’ll bring tears to your eyes.
Hey Ankarlo, maybe you should donate your book earning to this cause. I remember another dj donating all his profits to the cancer society. Who was that gentleman. I believe that was Dave Pratt, formally of Kmle 108. That was a great thing to do or do want some more county’s money fro County Attorney Thomas to make your pledge. I dare you to print this but I am sure will won’t or response to this e-mail.
