Watching Death

If I go through with it, I die as I must as some point. If I don’t go through with it, my choice is essentially to suffer and to inflict suffering on my family and then die.” That’s the voice of a man who killed himself and allowed a film crew to record the act so that it could be aired on television throughout Europe—which it was. He had a crippling disease and was tired of suffering and though my heart broke when I heard the story and though I’m sure the pain was unbearable—this broadcast was a travesty. Look, if you want to privately do the unthinkable—that’s your choice. I don’t support your decision but I support your right to have it. The moment a person brings others into the act: family, doctors, movie crews, is when choice is replaced by propaganda. Sure he was suffering, that’s a part of the human condition. But, to do this in the open creates permissiveness by the masses. And, since mankind loves to evolve, once clinics, doctors, insurance and acceptance enters the mix what do you think the next logical step will be?

Rob: Senate for Sale!
December 11, 2008
I knew the economy was bad, but jeez I didn’t know you could buy a Senate seat.
According the official FBI complaint against Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich he was trying to sell the open Senate seat vacated by President-Elect Barack Obama. Obama had his choice, but the Governor has the sole power to appoint. ‘Blago’ immediately honed in on what he can get out of this appointment. In one wiretap he said, “I’ve got this thing and it’s f****** golden and uh, uh, I’m just not giving it up for f****** nothing.”
He is repeatedly heard by the FBI saying he wanted to benefit his own financial situation because after all the governor of Illinois only makes $150,000 per year. Blagojevich wanted to use the Senate seat to join a non-profit where he could make $250,000 to $300,000 a year. If he couldn’t pull that off he was hoping to land his wife on a paid corporate board. It gets worse. She was an active participant in the scam. Unbelieveable. And I am sure this type of politics is more the norm than we even want to know.
There are several things that bother me about this. First, in politics it seems everything is for sale. Second, these knuckleheads don’t have our best interests at heart, but their own. Third, Blagojevich knew he was under investigation and tried to gain from the vacant Senate seat anyways. In the complaint, the FBI details at least two people who pointed fingers at the Governor for corruption during the trial of Antonin Rezko. That didn’t stop him. Neither did the impeachment talk all over Chicago. Talk about a sense of ego.
I attempt to learn a lesson from everything I do. The lesson I will take away from this one is a lesson that seems to repeat itself much more often than it should, politicians can never be trusted.

Rod (bleeped) You Over
December 10, 2008
Naïve is anyone who believes that what Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been saying and doing in the Land of Lincoln is shocking because of its rarity. He wants a bleeping deal, appointment or cash for a bleeping senate seat and his wife jumps on the phone demanding that bleeping reporters be fired is probably the norm and not the exception in American politics. Even Barack Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod, believes it’s okay. In 2005 he chided prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald for using criminal code to take politics out of government by saying that politicians routinely exchange favors and jobs for deals. That’s how things get done. And, our system of leadership settled into this method too many decades ago to count so don’t get any wild ideas that change is about to come—because most of us care more about bringing the new jobs to our state than we do about the bleeping things a politician must do to get them here. And that says a bleeping lot about us doesn’t?
