Kill the Speed Cams

Odds are that if you’re hearing me right now you have passed or will pass by one of the straight-from-the-pits-of-hell speed cameras. But, thankfully, this sad Janet Napolitano mistake may be coming to an end. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted 5-2 last week to approve House Bill 2106. Since most of us don’t keep track of the bill names let me lay it out for ya—HB2106 will force the stupid speed cams off of our state’s highways. Finally, the legislature is getting into the act after the outgoing governor made the deal with the highway devils without asking a whole lot of people about it. This is not about speeding and breaking the law, please understand this. It is about the government invading our privacy and creating systems that amount to nothing less than money grabs. Write your state representative today and ask them to vote YES to HB 2106. Drive safely. Drive smart. Slow the government’s encroachments.

Hi Ankarlo. Love your show. I was listening this morning around 7:30 but didn’t get to listen to your whole show. I am probably one of the few who thinks the speed cameras are a great idea. Whether the government set up the program to make money or to increase safety is an irrelevant issue. I have been caught by the cameras and paid my ticket, which sucked, but the main fact is that fatal accidents have decreased dramatically since the cameras were installed. I don’t really care if the government is making extra money on the deal. If the cameras had not been installed there would be many people dead today that are still alive because of increased safety. Since it’s impossible to tell who that would be I am always grateful to know that I am still alive when I would possibly have been just a number on the 101 north freeway in Scottsdale.

I have a CDL license, beacuse it is requried by work. If I get a ticket from one of those speed cameras, not only I have to pay the ticket, I also get points on my license unilke most normal drivers who just have regular license. Its not fair if one of those cameras isnt working properly and I get flashed or if somebody else is speeding and i get flashed. At least with an officer, i can maybe i can talk my way out of a ticket. I love your show, keep doing what your doing brother keeping the public informed.

I just finished reading your article in Phoenix mag. I’m fairly new to the area. It comes at a perfect time for me as just the other day that dam thing flashed at me while I was doing 50 in a 55.(Was it me? Did it go off on me and I’ll have to defend myself or am I just going to worry about it? AND perhaps have no one believe me?! AGHH!!!) I know my brother taught me to put my hand in front of my face scrolling my fingers between my eyes and the palm of my hand is over my mouth when I know the camera’s are coming. That’s a quick remedy but I have also thought of the purverbial Janet mask. I am over being controlled as I am surviver of Domestic Violence writing a book to educate the people on GOD given human rights! My brother listens to you all the time and after reading your article, you got me too. Thank you!!!!!!!

I, myself, hate these cameras, but am very suprised about the public “support” of the speed cameras. Mack & Gatos did an unscientific poll and were shocked at how many random people LIKE these speed cameras, and do not see them for the extortionistic moneygrabber that it really is.
I had received a notice of violation a couple of months back, and when I looked @ the pictures, the license tag was unreadable, and the driver had to be about 15 years younger than myself. The investigator signed a statement saying this person was me, yet did NOT put his (or her, the signature wasn’t very legible) ID Number on the violation. I ignored the notice and a few weeks ago, received another notice, but with the addition of a court date, and the name of a judge I need to see. Luckily, I heard this judge has a reputation for dismissing these “tickets”. However, some people may not be so lucky.
I just heard on KTAR that Coconino County is adding $20 to the speed cam fine if you take it to court or fail to pay the ticket. Another money grab or extortion?
About those speed cameras, if you get flashed and cause an accident or are in one do to speeding, then you should get ticketed and punished, but if your speeding does not interfear with others, then no harm no foul. I have almost (numerous times) hit someone from behind because they slammed on there brakes because of cameras and they’re not even speeding. Current conditions and amounts of traffic should also be takin into consideration.

If you looked at the notice you’ll see a very large part that says “If the driver was not you… etc. etc. (continuing on about what to do)
Didn’t feel or had a busy day or was to tired to simply check that box?
I love these made up stories people rant on about to try to rouse the public

Sorry that you feel the cameras are a scam. Did you feel that they may be slowing people down? If you say yes to that, then do you think slower speeds help prevents accidents? And if you say yes to that then you must agree that in turn save lives. I really dont care why they were put up and for what purpose. I know one thing from my experiences driving on the road… the people in this county need to slow it down and I can see the difference when I drive. In fact I did deliveries on these streets for 4 years logging about 1000 miles a week. It was about that time they put the cameras on the 101 Northbound. I saw the difference then also. The money thats coming in is just icing on the cake. We get to slow people down and those that are not catching on are helping to fund some type of program. Its a win win in my book. I hope the entire thing comes to the ballot. The anti camera group is going to lose and lose bad. what demographic are their votes going to come from? Well it will not be from the 55 plus crowd and they turn out in the biggest numbers on election day. The anti group is going to be relying on the 18-35 voters, or should I say non voters , because while they may have an opinion, they do not have such a good voting record!! See you at the polls!!!!
Public speaking and your constant use of “god” as in your lifestyle and broadcasts are not necassary. I know your history with dad and religion and what not etc….you do very well on the air. The constant use of god this and that is phony. You belive in god good for you. I do not think that humans need that bs to exist. Actually it demans you as a human, as you NEED a deity to exist. I respect
you a s ahuman but ask you also to respect us folks who do not need gods to
fulfill our lives. My humble opinion is (as a surviving catholic ) is the use of god and the likes of the same are a means for people like you to put yourself above the human race a better than or my god a humble sevent of fiction.
I do believe however in one self and the inside moral equal of real people.
With that is right/wrong and morals without the threat of hell. We have sherrif joe for that!
