Greedy Kurt?
March 4, 2009
I’m a little shocked at some of the angry emails streaming through my inbox lately. The vitriol is palpable, but thank the Lord they’re not aimed at me. Instead, some of you need a voice and believe I’ll provide it as you curse and scream at—ready for this—Kurt Warner! Yep, there’s outrage at the guy who just a few weeks ago could walk on water while hitting Jesus Himself with a 10 and out bullet. Why the anger? Because #13 now wants a two-year $23 million deal. Judy writes, “I’m struggling to keep my lights on and this guy is crying over millions. How dare he?” Hang on a second Judy; don’t we all try to negotiate more money, an extra day off or better opportunities? You bet we do. Sure, Warner is out of our league but since that’s the way things are done in the NFL, shouldn’t we be cheering him on—as one of our own? Pete writes, “…But now I can’t afford tickets.” Because Kurt wants more money? I don’t think so. If our top dog QB were gone, the NFL, Cardinals and other forces would figure out a way to keep ticket prices high so let’s at least use it to keep our hopes for another playoff alive and well. Now that’s hope I can believe in.
Ankarlo’s Take is written for broadcast. You can hear it here or live during Arizona’s Morning news at 7:20 on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR.

Oh Great Oz Ankarlo, Hero of the Hood! When it comes to one man, one talk show host, and a free ticket to the Superbowl! You’re the man! Still RICO Lobbyist for the enabler! But it was your year! You got to go, and so did “Roger”
Kurt Warner, doesn’t deserve 30 million or even 10 million over the next two years! It took him what was left of his career to find two of the greatest “Pro Bowl” receivers in the game deep. Lienart, knows Anquoin, and Warner knows Fitz! Lienart believes in his deep ball to Anquoin, and Warner believes in his deep ball to Fitzgerald. The running game spoke for itself! It was effective, then ineffective with “guilt” towards the leadership to getting to the “hole.” It happens.
Warner will not get us to our next Superbowl, hopefully we will keep Lienart and he will find the same success trying to figure out how to just not hold onto the ball and throw it! What a concept when you have the need for speed on both corners of your NFL World! Bomb on 3!
All the negative e-mails are understandable if you look at the current economic situation for everyone-or almost everyone. The worse this thing gets for people the less sympathy they will have for news stories about others trying to get good contracts. Especially athletes because people don’t look at them as having a “real job” and they don’t stop and take time to realize that at 38 Warner is getting ready to have to retire. It is a huge amount of money but what if he doesn’t go into broadcasting or anything else really lucrative and this is what he has to retire on into old age?
This is just a sign of the times right now and I think it will get worse before it gets better. The divide between the haves and the have-nots is getting bigger and people are resenting it more.
