No Need for God?
March 10, 2009
24% of Americans are either agnostic, atheist or deist, the most significant change in American religious practices in the history of this country. Church attendance; down. Denomination affiliation; down. The only increase in this study of 54,000 citizens was how many claim they have no need for religion. That’s huge for a country that was founded not just on religious freedom but on a majority of Christians who fled England to worship Christ without government review. Those wanting to argue my facts, first do what I did and read the original documents provided by the Library of Congress. Anyway, get this, atheists and agnostics have tripled since 1990. Tripled. That tells me a few things: 1, today’s church is failing at the task of displaying Christ’s message of love and redemption and the people with their butts still occupying pews don’t believe the message enough to openly demonstrate it. The only positive thing about today’s troubled times like high unemployment and a wrecked economy, those numbers will soon change for the better. Kind of funny how we have no need for God until the waters get a little choppy. My Marine son told me once, “I didn’t see any atheists as we walked into enemy fire in Fallujah.”
Ankarlo’s Take is written for broadcast. You can hear it here or live during Arizona’s Morning News at 7:20 on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR.

here is the catch. If Ankarlo is a clear example of what it is to be an American Christian, no wonder the churches are losing membership. Being a closeted racist that hides under the clock of religion is not very ethical.
Darrell, I have told you time and time again…
There are plenty of us Atheists, Agnostics and Non-Believers in the Armed Forces, and if you ever want to talk this out instead of throwing stones at my fellow non-abrahamic servicemen I am always available.
Mark Twain was avery cinnical man. Read “Letters From Earth”.
I’m a licensed Doctor of Dentistry where I base all my decisions on Science. However, almost 20 years ago, I was an ICU nurse and have been present during several deaths. Although I was an atheist, I am definitely an agnostic after seeing those events. Every time I bring up my opinion I am ususally scolded, usually by the Christians. I do think we should all follow the ten commandments; however, I don’t think it takes a God to develop it-it’s basic human decency and common sense.
It is a sign that many people have evolved past the need to rely on a mythical deity in order to understand our existence.
Hello Ankarlo,
I am writing you this message because I would hope that you would talk about it ASAP. I listen to your show everyday and I tried calling yesterday and I was left on hold for like a half hour. But my Mom told me to e-mail you and I am hoping that you get this. I am a single mother of three, ages 6,4,and 2. I have 2 boys and a girl. The thing is that with all the cuts in the government, they are cutting my D.E.S. daycare as of Friday. I recieved the letter in the mail on Sat. and than my assistance is going to end this week!!!
I am really upset and up tight about this. The letter states that it is a Mass Change and that the income Maximum for DES ChildCare assistance has been Decreased from 165% to 110% of the poverty level effevtive 03/15/2009. So then it goes on and states that I make 2046.00 Gross per month and that Exceeds the Max allowable????
Ankarlo I make that much Gross correct but the thing is after TAXES and Medical. I take home 759.00. Bi-weekly.
The cost of daycare per week for all three of my kids is 265.00 a week. If you multiply by 4(weeks) it is $1060.00!! There is no way in the world that I live in that I can make that kind of payment. And my rent of $630.00, car of $357.00 and well then gas and other things that a family needs.I am giveing these figures so that it can make more sense to you. This assitance is somthing that I really need in order to function. I have been working now for 4 years and I have been 3 years at the same Company. I have improved myself and I have learned different processes in the building. I have a better pay and now I am getting dumped on for it if you know what I mean. I have tried, and I still am. I am crushed by this.
I know that it has been brought up on your show about how people are on assistance and they dont need it. And things in that matter.
I am at the verge by the end of the week to either find a solution(which I dont see how) or quite my job and lose my apt and my car. I live more or less comfortable right now . Well because I have a job and I can do things that I need to do I get them done but not with this.
Please bring this up and I hope you understand
Do you think that some of this shift comes from people who question the “need’” for organized religion in their lives? I don’t necessarily think I need to go to church to be a good person, who also believes in God. I think that for many people, Jesus’ message is lost in translation.
