Leinart And His Partying Ways

Here’s what went down today on G&A…

* Four hours of radio brilliance before “Suns-Nuggets: The Re-Match” at The Pepsi Center.

* Breaking news off the top of the show about today’s big announcement regarding the sudden and unexpected termination of Doug & Wolf. Check your calendars people and don’t believe everything you hear on the radio.

* Suns get a big comeback win last night over Denver. G&A marvel at the grit of Steve Nash and the rest of the Suns for erasing a 22-point deficit. We continued to discuss how the Shaq trade overhauled the look of this team on and off the court. Gambo is still taking a wait-and-see-approach until the playoffs- when it really counts. Ash thinks the Suns are better team with Shaq in the lineup.

* Vin Scully will turn 80 shortly. This coincides with the last year of his deal as the Voice of the Dodgers and Major League Baseball, for that matter. No one is saying if he’s coming back. G&A discuss how Scully’s legacy will be remembered along with other classic baseball voices like Ernie Harwell, Jack Buck, and Marty Brennaman.

* Marty Brennaman checked in from Cincy to discuss the Reds-D-Backs’ series which starts back up tomorrow. He thinks the money-hungry baseball suits have ruined the game for younger generations. The Hall-of-Famer is in his 35th year calling radio games on WLW.

* ESPN baseball analyst Tim Kurkjian checked in for his weekly segment. He previewed what should be an ultra-tight NL West race. Kurkjian likes the Diamondbacks, but hopes their bullpen can hold up, including new closer Brandon Lyons.

* Matt Leinart had a house party over the weekend and yesterday several photos surfaced- one of Leinart holding a beer bong. These photos made the lead of SportsCenter this afternoon and are plastered on web sites everywhere-including sports.ktar.com. G&A debated if this was a big deal or if Leinart was simply caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Gambo thinks Leinart should know better. Ash thinks the story is a bit overblown. Both agree people wouldn’t care as much if Leinart was coming off a huge year or was already a proven NFL quarterback.

* We were also joined by Coyotes’ rookie phenom Kyle Turris. The 18 year-old agreed to terms on a 3-year deal yesterday. He is expected to be in uniform Thursday night against the Stars in Glendale.

Tomorrow: ASU AD Lisa Love & Bob Melvin
