Gambo & Ash: October 18, 2007

Here’s what went down today on G&A

* The guys discussed Manny Ramirez’s comments about him not being too concerned if the Red Sox lost in the ALCS. Gambo is appalled at Man-Ram. Gambo says he represents the Red Sox fan base and should hate to lose as much as the fans do. Ash says he doesn’t want to hear it from Manny because the fans help play his enormous salary.

*The Devils lose starting tailback Ryan Torain for the remainder of the year. Gambo still thinks the Devils have the backfield depth to overcome the loss of their best offensive player.

* ASU wide receiver Mike Jones joined the show and said the Devils have set themselves up for a successful season. He thinks Keegan Herring and Dimitri Nance can carry the load in Torain’s absence.

* We talked some college football with SI.com college football insider Stewart Mandel. Mandel likes the Devils to possibly win the Pac-10. Mandel also has published a new book out about the BCS.

* D-Backs GM Josh Byrnes joined the show to discuss the season that was and what lies ahead this off-season. Byrnes says the D-Backs will pursue some trades this winter.

Tomorrow: Ron Jaworski, Cards defensive lineman and Pick the Pros

Your show had me laughing and then so mad I had to tune out. Just gotta love the Rockies bashing.

Let’s see, you had one guy claiming the Rockies are the “JV” team to whoever wins in the ALCS. The Bosux fan claiming they would take Cleveland and sweep Colorado no problem.

I could give you my opinion, but that doesn’t matter any more than the opinions above.

But, for a FACT, in head-to-head competition in the 2007 season:

-June 12-14, 2007 - Colorado (before they caught fire) played at Fenway Park against the Red Sox (who were in 1st place in the AL East at 40-22)

-The Rockies won the series 2-1 outscoring the Bosux 20-4.

-Josh Fogg beat Schilling in a 12-2 thrashing.

-Jeff Francis beat Josh Beckett in a 7-1 thrashing that was Beckett’s first loss of the season.

By the way, Colorado swept the Yankees that next week outscoring them 13-5.

Colorado was not suppossed to make the playoffs. Colorado was not favored against the Phillies (who have a much more potent offense than Cleveland OR Boston). Colorado was not suppossed to make it to the World Series.

So, the doubters and bashers better get it in THIS week while they can. We don’t have any more room on the Colorado bandwagon anyway.
