Down go the champs

Here’s what went down Friday on G&A

* Down Go the Champs! The Lakers have eliminated the defending champion Spurs and now wait (and rest) for the Boston-Detroit winner. G&A agree Kobe Bryant is the most ridiculous basketball player on the planet. Gambo thinks LA is the clear-cut favorite to win it all with a bench filled with great role players. Ash sees big network ratings with the Lakers back in the finals and thinks this will be Kobe’s title if he wins it. With all the power in the west, Gambo hopes the Suns blow up their roster and start over. G&A agree the Spurs had a great run, but it might be over in the Alamo City.

* The Skid Continues Conor Jackson’s big error opened the floodgates to another loss for the slumping Diamondbacks. Gambo thinks Josh Byrnes may look into acquiring a good, defensive, late-inning 1st baseman. G&A agree Pittsburgh’s Doug Mientkiewicz would be a perfect fit. Ash thinks the Giants have proven they can be a player in a suddenly wide-open NL West. G&A agree the losing streak has been, for the most part, a total team effort.

* Big Night For Big Unit Randy Johnson got another tough-luck no-decision against the Giants last night at Chase Field. The Big Unit struck out nine and tied the embattled Roger Clemens for second on the all-time list. Gambo feels Randy could pitch another season if his groove on the mound continues the remainder of the season.

* G&A rip TV Two-A-Day contestant Tammy Trickey and her boyfriend for failing to call-in on time for TV Two-A-Days. The really bad news is tomorrow is Tammy’s birthday. Oops.

Monday: Cards’ cornerback-turned-safety Antrel Rolle.
