Here’s what went down Monday on G&A…
Gambo returned after his week-long NY sabbatical. Upon returning, he spent an afternoon getting caught up on the happenings in sports while he was away. Like many, he couldn’t help but get caught up in the Wimbledon Men’s Final, featuring an instant classic between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The five-set classic brought back memories of the heyday of men’s tennis, featuring Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, etc. And while G&A don’t think tennis has come anywhere near that level, both did enjoy the match and think that it could be a precursor to a revival of the men’s game.
What do the D-Backs need to do in order to revive their struggling offense? Gambo reports that acquiring a left-handed hitter is the solution of choice for the D-Backs front office, although they have already chosen not to part with Max Scherzer, Jarrod Parker, and likely not Emilio Bonifacio, the latter of which will likely replace Orlando Hudson next year. Hudson’s departure (via free-agency) will garner some compensation in the way of draft picks, and Gambo says the D-Backs expect to replenish their system with around seven of the top 70 picks in next year’s draft.
