Here’s what went down Monday on G&A…
Gambo & Ash were LIVE at Cardinals’ Training Camp 2008 in Flagstaff.
Cards’ starting quarterback Matt Leinart sat down with Gambo & Ash to discuss his controversial summer, his now fully rehabilitated shoulder which caused him to miss most of last season, and his thoughts on entering his third training camp here in Flagstaff.
Big Season. Matt Leinart is at a cross-road early in his career. His off-season was marred with controversy. G&A debated if Leinart is the answer and if he is committed enough to be the quarterback Ken Whisenhunt and the Cards think he will be. G&A both want to see Leinart succeed with the Red Birds but know Kurt Warner is watching very closely from the sideline. Ash thinks the division is wide open. Gambo thinks the NFC West is one of the weakest in the NFL.
Red Birds’ starting tight end Leonard Pope discussed his break-out season last year and expectations going into the upcoming year both as a receiver and as a blocker.
Cardinals’ starting cornerback Eric Green previewed the upcoming season and shared his life as a cornerback in the NFL.
Getting Closer? Gambo is reporting the D-Backs are closing in on a deal for Braves’ slugger Mark Teixiera and it won’t cost them Conor Jackson, as some have reported. The deal would send Chad Tracy and a minor leaguer to Atlanta. The guys love the possible deal-even if they have him for only the remainder of the season before he signs with another team via free-agency. Both agree the D-Backs would make a strong push to re-sign Teixiera this winter-especially with Orlando Hudson and Brandon Lyon possibly not returning next season.
We were also joined by Sports 620 KTAR reporter Johnny V. who re-capped this afternoon’s practice here at NAU which included the club working out former ASU tight end Brent Miller. The club practiced through light showers instead of heading inside to the Walkup Skydome.
Tomorrow: ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian and Padres’ outfielder Scott Hairston
