Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A

Keep Grinding - The D-backs got a big win last night in St. Louis to shrink LA’s lead in the NL West to two games.  The Snakes avoided another late-inning bullpen collapse and will lean on Randy Johnson tonight against the Red Birds.  G&A love the fact that BoMel’s team isn’t rolling over and playing dead for the Dodgers.  Both agree the D-backs are still a long shot to overcome Joe Torre’s club in the West.

The guys caught up with Brandon Webb.  D-backs’ ace picked up his 22nd win last night in St. Louis as the D-backs kept their playoff hopes alive with a clutch 4-2 win over the Cards.  Webby threw a season-high 121 pitches - scattering 8 hits and 2 runs in 7 innings and got a huge strikeout of Albert Pujols to end the 7th.  Gambo ripped him for his slow baserunning and Webb responded by challenging him to a race.  Stay tuned.

Favre Factor - Brett Favre and the Jets were blown out by the Chargers last night in San Diego.  The future HOF’er threw three picks in the loss.  The Jets are now 1-2 and preparing to take on the Red Birds this weekend.  The guys debated if #4 made the right decision coming back or if he should have just stayed retired.  Gambo wonders what happened to the quality of quarterback play in the NFL.

We were joined by our ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian.  He said the D-backs are still very much alive in the NL West and wonders if ANY “expert” picked the Rays to make the post-season, much less win the deep and talented American League East.

ESPN college football analyst Mark May shared his thoughts on last weekend’s games including Georgia man-handling ASU and Boise State’s upset of Oregon in Eugene.  MayDay doesn’t think Alabama will upset UGA this weekend, but watch out for Nick Saban’s team in the future.
