Blame Game

Here’s what went down Wednesday on G&A

Blame Game - The Diamondbacks fell behind early and never recovered dropping a key game last night in St. Louis.  Randy Johnson was roughed up in the opening inning and Jon Rauch’s struggles continued.  Gambo is fed-up with Rauch (although he admits he was initially in favor of the deal) and wonders if he is any benefit to this staff.  Ash thinks Josh Byrnes should take some responsibility for the D-backs’ downfall because most of the deals he made (Rauch, Carlos Quentin, Jose Valverde) haven’t panned out.  G&A agree BoMel is a solid manager, but question some of his decisions - particularly with the shaky bullpen.  The guys debated what the Snakes might do with free-agent-to-be Randy Johnson at the conclusion of the season.

Arizona State athletic director Lisa Love shared her thoughts on the Devils’ 27-10 loss to 2nd-ranked Georgia at Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday.  Love also previewed The Stadium Shootout in Glendale December 20th featuring ASU-BYU and Minnesota-Louisville.  Tickets go on sale this weekend.

The guys caught up with D-backs’ skipper Bob Melvin.  BoMel isn’t quite sure what to make of Rauch’s struggles, nor what his role will be on this club moving forward.  He also said he expects big things from tonight’s starter, Max Scherzer.

Staying Home
- The Yankees’ post-season streak is oh-vuh (as Gambo would say).  For the first time since 1993, New York will not be playing October baseball.  Gambo thinks it’s ok this year, but wouldn’t want to see the Yanks left out of the post-season on a consistent basis.  Ash is just happy to not have to watch George Steinbrenner’s team this fall.  G&A debated if it’s good or bad for baseball not having the Yanks in the hunt for the title.

Tomorrow:  short show after day baseball in St. Louis

We’ll be joined by Baseball HOF’er Brooks Robinson.
