Here’s what went down Monday on G&A
Jet-Streamed - The Jets blew out the Red Birds 56-35 yesterday at The Meadowlands. G&A agree there’s plenty of blame to go around starting with Kurt Warner and the Cards’ o-line who failed to protect him throughout the course of the game. Both are frustrated by the poor pass protection footwork and technique Levi Brown used yesterday against former Card Calvin Pace. Gambo puts plenty of blame on the secondary which was consistently beaten by Brett Favre and the Jets’ receivers. Ash still thinks the Red Birds will take care of the Bills this weekend in Glendale. The guys agree there is plenty of parity in the NFL right now.
We caught up with Sports 620 KTAR reporter Johnny V. LIVE at Cards’ headquarters in Glendale. V. said most of the Cards’ players were okay with the hit on Anquan Boldin at the end of the game yesterday in New York and the secondary is still shell-shocked after getting torched by the Jets’ skill players. Eric Smith of the Jets was fined $50,000 and suspended one game for the hit on Q.
Season Over - The D-backs’ season officially came to a close yesterday with a win over the Rockies. Bob Melvin’s crew finished 82-80 as Randy Johnson picked up win #295 on the final day of the season. G&A debated if the club will bring Randy back and what tweaks the front office needs to make this off-season. Gambo believes Johnson can still pitch. The guys were upset that Unit didn’t make an appearance on the field with the rest of the team to give away his jersey - a tradition with the Diamondbacks.
Tomorrow: We’ll be joined by ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian, college football analyst Mark May, and Cards’ quarterback Kurt Warner.
