Here’s what went down Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A
Let it Go! - Reports say Jets’ quarterback Brett Favre may have leaked information about his former team, the Packers, to the Lions for game prep purposes. Gambo thinks it’s time for him to let go of his bitterness towards the Pack and the fact that they moved on without him. Ash doesn’t see this as much of a surprise. Packer cornerback Charles Woodson isn’t happy about it and neither are several of Favre’s ex-teammates. Technically, it’s not a violation of NFL rules, but G&A agree this is beyond unethical of #4.
Former Diamondback star and 2001 World Series hero Luis Gonzalez joined the guys to discuss the Phils-Rays World Series and share his thoughts on possibly returning to Arizona to finish his career-maybe as a fifth outfielder/part-time starter. Gonzo played last year with the Florida Marlins and said he is still “exploring all options” for 2009, including retirement.
Going Gonzo…again? - Luis Gonzalez says he wants to wear Sedona Red. Ash thinks there are plusses and minuses to this, but would be in favor of the move. His biggest question is will Dbacks’ fans accept Gonzo as a role player and not the star he was during his first tenure? Gambo likes the idea-especially with a lefty bat off the bench and so many young players on the roster for him to mentor. We took calls.
ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian checked in LIVE from St. Pete to discuss the Rays’ Cinderella run to the World Series and how they match-up with the National League champion Phillies. Game 1 is tomorrow night at Tropicana Field.
Our ESPN college football analyst Mark May discussed last weekend’s big games including top-ranked Texas’ thrashing of Missouri in Austin and shared his thoughts on the first BCS Poll which was released Sunday. MayDay thinks at least one “mid-major” will play in a BCS game this year.
Scheduling Conflict - G&A discussed how some power conference schools, most notably in the Pac-10, have stumbled in non-conference play this year against the likes of the Mountain West and WAC. G&A wonder why Pac-10 schools don’t follow the lead of Ohio State (sans USC this year) and Texas Tech and schedule cream puffs because conference play is tough enough as it is.
