Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A
Close Cards - The Red Birds improved to 6-3 with a dramatic 29-24 win over the 49ers in Glendale. G&A agree the Cards certainly didn’t play their best, but getting the victory really says a lot about how far this team has come. Ash thinks San Fran offensive coordinator Mike Martz blew the game with his final play call. Gambo was impressed with 49er quarterback Shawn Hill, but applauds the Red Birds for making plays when they had to. The guys were perplexed by some of the officiating last night-for both teams. Gambo thinks Steve Breaston’s improvement has been key to the club’s 2008 success. We took calls.
Cardinals’ defensive captain and starting linebacker Karlos Dansby checked in to discuss the Red Birds’ comeback win over the 49ers last night in Glendale. Dansby had a key 4th-quarter interception to go along with a team-high 10 tackles. The free-agent-to-be is optimistic he will re-sign with Arizona this off-season.
Decisions, Decisions - Dansby told Gambo & Ash that he feels he will be able to agree to terms and remain a long-term Cardinal this off-season. G&A know the organization won’t be able to afford both he and Anquan Boldin - who is expecting a bigger deal or trade once the season ends. Gambo thinks Breaston’s development could make trading “Q” a little easier. Ash feels Dansby is quickly becoming a top-tier NFL linebacker. Gambo hopes the Cards will attempt to keep their “core” together. We took calls.
Former 4-time Pro-Bowl linebacker with the Cards and Redskins Ken Harvey discussed his 11-year NFL career, his time here in Arizona, and life after football-which includes his latest concept, “Float Ball” a high-concept called SpaceSportilization.
Our ESPN college football analystMark May broke down last weekend’s big games including Alabama’s big overtime win in Death Valley, Texas Tech’s route of Oklahoma State, and Iowa’s upset of previously unbeaten Penn State. MayDay also shared his thoughts on the latest BCS rankings and everything else making headlines around college football.
Hold the Mayo! - The Suns survived a scare from Memphis last night as rookie O.J. Mayo went off for 33 points in the loss. Ash was surprised when the Grizzlies picked him - especially when they already have a talented point guard in Mike Conley, JR. Ash thinks Mayo fits well at the two-guard, which he played last night. Gambo likes the way Terry Porter is using his aging roster wisely - like resting Shaq on back-to-backs. Both agree the Suns will be tough to beat if the bench continues to produce (50 points vs. the Grizzlies).
