Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A
Ash was off…Gambo flew solo today.
Good Enough? - The Buckeyes hung with Texas last night before falling in the closing seconds behind the heroics of Colt McCoy. Gambo wonders why so many Ohio State fans were ok with a close loss when he was walking to his car after the game. He questioned what has happened to the once proud program that has been on the losing end of BCS games in recent years. We took calls. The Buckeye Nation came to the defense of Jim Tressel’s program.
Ute-topia! - Utah sent a message to the SEC and the other BCS conferences with its’ thumping of Alabama in the Sugar Bowl on Friday. Gambo thinks BCS schools don’t get excited to play in “lesser” bowls (Texas Tech-Cotton Bowl) or against “lesser” competition (Crimson Tide-Sugar). The Utes finished the season a perfect 13-0. Does Utah have a case for being national champions and should the Mountain West get an automatic BCS bid in future years? Gambo doesn’t see that happening. We took calls.
Coyotes’ captain and good friend of show Shane Doan checked in to preview their game tonight against Chicago at Glendale Arena. The ‘Yotes are 19-16-5 and are currently 3rd in the Western Conference.
Gambo caught up with first-year Suns’ forward Louis Amundson. The former UNLV Rebel has seen his role expand recently in Terry Porter’s system. Amundson needed seven stitches in his chin after taking an inadvertent elbow from Robin Lopez yesterday at practice.
Sweet Lou! - Louis Amundson has stepped up his game and taken minutes from 1st-round pick Robin Lopez. Gambo admits he was dead wrong and never envisioned Amundson as anything more than a bench player. He has proven hustle and defense can earn you minutes on a good NBA team. What former Sun does he remind you of? Kurt Rambis? Bo Outlaw? We took calls.
Our ESPN college football analyst Mark May checked in to break down last night’s exciting finish in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and to preview Thursday’s BCS Championship between Oklahoma and Florida in Miami. MayDay ripped the Big Ten for a pathetic 1-6 showing this bowl season.
Buying In? – The Cards are preparing for their cross-country trip to Charlotte to take on the Panthers Saturday night. The Red Birds are flying out just one day early in hopes of reversing their bad fortunes when traveling to the East Coast (0-5). Gambo doesn’t feel Ken Whisenhunt’s team will win, but they definitely have a chance as they showed earlier this year against John Fox’s club. One big question is who will cover Steve Smith?
Wednesday we’ll be joined by Pacers’ point guard T.J. Ford, Liberty head basketball coach and former Westwood High grad Ritchie McKay, and ASU center Jeff Pendergraph.
