Gambo: Time for Suns to take a stand

After Jason Richardson’s second pathetic arrest in the last two months it is time for Suns owner Robert Sarver to take control of his franchise and take a stand. Richardson was arrested this morning in Scottsdale for driving 55 miles per hour over the speed limit with his 3-year old son in the backseat unrestrained. He was charged with reckless driving, excessive speeding and failure to use a child seat. This just two months after an arrest for DUI. I guess a lesson wasn’t learned the first time. Just how stupid can Richardson be? Right now he is starring in the Phoenix version of the movie dumb, dumb and one more screw up and we add dumber. Sarver needs to act and act quick. No need to wait for the legal process to run its course here – suspend Richardson immediately for 2 or 3 games without pay. The Suns I’m sure will have the full support of David Stern on this one. Richardson’s complete and utter disregard for his child’s safety and the Sun’s public image can not go unpunished. The Suns absolutely can not tolerate this type of behavior, they should be appalled at Richardson’s lack of understanding. Richardson can apologize all he want but frankly us fans are tired of hearing athletes apologize. It’s time to be held accountable. If Richardson’s is not suspended then the Suns have no backbone.

Should the Phoenix Suns suspend Jason Richardson?

I agree 100% this is crazy, he should have been suspended for the DUI, the Suns organization better get there act together…quickly..

  2. 2 Rose

This is getting worse everyday….he is a risk for the team not to mention he put his own son at risk of injury driving recklessly. Third time is a charm..wonder what is next, sad !!!

Trade Sarver and keep Amare. When Brian & Jerry was here everything was perfect and everyone was happy including Joe Johnson. Sarver hasn’t done anything but bring this team to it’s knees. How pathetic is that we are hosting the Allstar game and all they can talk about is trading Amare Stoudemire and firing Terry Porter. Trade Sarver and Keep Amare.

I think You should get rid of Richardson and keep amare. J-Rich Is making a lot of money, so trade him for a pick and a young rookie or second year player.

I don’t think the Suns should Suspend Richardson they need to trade him ASAP. There is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for this. Gambo is right Robert Sarver needs to get control of this team. This is an embarrasment to the league. There is no way Jerry Colangelo would of put up with this and Robert Sarver needs to take a page out of Jerry’s playbook before he runs this team into the ground.

I know there are a lot of athletes that do good things in the community, Kurt Warner is a good example. We need more of this type of behavior. I am a little old school but these instant millionairs are starting to drive me away from going to sporting events! It is sad to see this happening!

Just stupid. Thats the times we live in.

All I can say is, Unbelievable! The Suns should absolutley give him at least 3-5 games suspended, and during that suspension he should be given a wake up call with talking to family members who have had life changing experience due to drunk driving, child unrestrained, or any wreckless driving incidents.

Who would trade for this idiot? What a complete jack ass! This once proud franchise has become the clippers just a few years after jerry left. If jerry was running things he would have been gone already. Plus we wouldnt suck

Yes. Fire Sarver. Keep Amare. This guy has imploded the Phoenix SUNS in relative short time. SARVER MUST GO!!!! SOMEONE BUY THE TEAM. The CITY should BUY the TEAM and offer Colangelo as interim President/GM.

Where is Jerry Coangelo when you need him. Remember Cliff Robinson with the Marijuana Possesion…gone, Jason Kidd beating his wife over McDonalds french fries…gone, Richard Dumas can’t get his life together…gone. The list goes on and on. Sarver has run this team I have loved ALL MY LIFE into the ground. Colangelo stood for character and respect and Sarver stands for a foam finger, jumping on the Gorilla’s trampoline, and “playing owner”. As long as Sarver owns the team we will be the on the third tier of success like the Nuggets. These are Dark Days!

Not saying you are right or wrong, but the NBA players association would no doubt file a grievence on J Rich’s behalf.

  13. 13 GARY

suspension? if it was JoeAverage, he’d still be in jail. terminate him. cut the loss…it’s going to happen again.

I was glad to see Richardson here when he was traded being 8 yrs suns fan … I do not want a Championship Ring with such players… I am OK with Great Characteristics players but No Ring. I do not want a ring that a Person who endangered a 2 yr old helped get. I want SUNS to trade him if not possible … then definitely 5-10 game SUSPENSION w/o Pay. And NBA should SUSPEND everyone in Player’s Association to defend him … if they do.

  15. 15 Lucile

Yes, suspend him! Better yet, trade him this week. He will not change.

  16. 16 Paul

I don’t live anywhere near Phoenix but I feel badly for Suns fans with everything they’ve endured recently. Richardson is a threat to himself, his family, and the Phoenix community so he needs to go…A the very least the NBA should put him under a zero-tolerance policy for off-court behavior. THe Phoenix public should ride his butt out of town.

and the glorification of a professional athlete continues…when will we as a society get it through the heads of the various professional athletic associations that we do not stand for behaviors such as the one exhibited…we’re tired of yet another professional athlete behaving as if he/she was above the law..untouchable if you will…we as John Q Public spend our hard earned money-especially in this economy-to watch the best product on the floor…that product should not only be the best on the floor but off the court as well…these very well paid public employees have gotten way out of control, believing that anything and everything that they do will be excused and forgotten because of how great they are…they walk around with their elitist attitude, filled with arrogance, sense of entitlement and “don’t you know who I am” mentality…that very attitude has gotten many of them out of situations that most of us poor working folks would’ve paid dearly for…Mr. Richardson’s actions and those of his fellow athletes need to be curtailed and disallowed to continue as this sort of behavior places a negative connotation on our hometown team…I for one do not appreciate any of my sports teams to have their name dragged through mud because a petulant and apparently spoiled athlete does not know how to follow the law and has absolutely no regard not only for the organization and the fans but most of all for his 3 year old child…Mr. Sarver needs to take swift action in regards to this latest incident not only because it is the right thing to do but also because our faith in Mr. Sarver’s leadership and his choices have already left something to be desired… a slap on the wrist for these athletes is not enough as a slap on their wrist is a slap on the face of us the fans…Mr. Sarver needs to take action and not lay down and roll over because he paid and is continuing to pay for this athlete and he needs him on the floor…inaction as a response to this, or any other incident, is equivalent to that of supporting such behavior…I certainly hope that Mr. Sarver does not allow the Suns to be in the same category as what Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have become-a Mecca for all delinquent and cancerous athletes of the NFL…

Was there not a provision in the sale of the Suns to be able to buy back the SUNS… a first right of refusal? Sarver is in business….sometimes the best deal is the one you walk away from.
Here is the scenario….Colangelo buys back the Suns, Steve Kerr resigns, Gentry finishes out the year, Brian Colangelo opts out of his contract to return to the Suns as GM, Ivaroni is interviewed and hired…Richardson and Shaq traded to Lakers ( new found love with Kolbe) for …..

  19. 19 Patrick

Suspend this loser… and make him share a cab with Charles.

  20. 20 Patrick

I just heard the Suns suspended J-Pacman for only one game. What a powerful statement Suns management is sending. Risk the life of your 3-year old son and others… and get a whole game suspension. Grow up J-Pac, your behavior doesn’t fly here in Arizona.

  21. 21 Frosty

Is it too late to bring Jerry Colangelo back. No championship; but much better times and a team to rally around, without a scorecard.

  22. 22 Andre Truss

I agree, He should be suspended for at least 3 games unpaid, athlete’s are usually put on some sort of perverbial pedestal in most cities, I am so glad that in the city of Scottsdale and surrounding cities, that is’nt the case..just moved to Ohio, so I am really missing you guy’s on the radio, and yes I even miss Doug and Wolf in the morning, can’t wait till 2010, to get back to hear you guy’s live again
