Tucson Traveling

Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A…

Tucson Traveling - G&A traveled down to Tucson to visit the Diamondbacks spring training facility and talked about the D-backs upcoming season.  The guys talked about the lineup for this season and which D-back will be the odd man out for playing time this year.  G&A both agreed that Conor Jackson should be in the everyday lineup and Byrnes, Tracy and Reynolds will be fighting for that last spot.

Diamondbacks centerfielder Chris Young joined us.  CY had a career high in strike outs last season with 165 but he also had career numbers in doubles and RBIs.  Ash feels that even though Young had way too many K’s, Young still had a productive year only being in the league for two full seasons.

D-backs shortstop Stephen Drew joined the program shortly after his teammate Chris Young.  Drew led the team in doubles last season and had an incredible second half, finishing the year with a .291 batting average.  G&A asked Drew how important it is to get team chemistry with the new addition to the middle infield.

King of the Pac - Washington Huskies senior forward Jon Brockman stopped by to preview the ASU-Washington game Thursday night for an outright lead at the top of the Pac-10.  The All-Pac 10 1st team player leads the conference in rebounding (11.3) and is averaging nearly 15 points per game.  Brockman talked about the last few games of the season along with his four years as a Husky.

G&A talked about the ending of the ASU-UA game.  ASU fans stormed the court following the victory.  The Devils were ranked 11th in the country while hosting the unranked Wildcat team.  We opened phones to see if Sun Devil fans overdid the tradition of rushing the court following a victory.

Don’t call it a comeback - Ken Griffey Jr. goes back to where it all began.  Jr. re-signed with the Seattle Mariners for one season on an incentive loaded contract which could be worth up to $5 million.  Griffey finished last season with the Chicago White Sox, hitting  .249 and adding 18 homers.  We opened the phone lines to talk about other athletes whose career’s sparked with a franchise, left the city and then came back towards the end of their career.

Short show tomorrow, Gambo & Ash will be on from 4 pm to 6 pm following the D-backs opening spring training game on Sports 620 KTAR
