Here’s what went down Monday on G&A
Harden(ing) Your Stance? - The Sun Devils were sent home yesterday by a better Syracuse team, ending a very successful season for Herb Sendek’s crew. James Harden had back-to-back poor games in Miami. The sophomore is still unsure if he will return to Tempe or skip to the NBA draft where he is expected to be a lottery selection. Ash was disappointed Harden didn’t step up when his team needed him most and feels his draft status did take a hit although he will go down as a great college basketball player. Gambo disagrees-knowing Harden will be a sure fire lottery pick who will leave and go on to be a solid pro player. The guys debated his future and legacy at ASU.
Our March Madness analyst Bill Frieder will joined us in-studio to share his thoughts on the Sweet 16 match-ups and which four may advance Detroit. “Frieds” worked the Boise region over the weekend.
UConn head basketball coach Jim Calhoun checked in to discuss the Huskies impressive run to the Sweet 16. Calhoun discussed his recent health issues and what he expects to see from Purdue Thursday night in Glendale. UConn has gone on to win the national championship the past two times they’ve played the west regional finals in Phoenix (1999, 2005). He also talked about their 6-overtime Big East tourney loss to Syracuse a couple weeks ago.
The Syracuse Orange punched their ticket to the Sweet 16 following yesterday’s win over ASU in Miami. Long-time coach Jim Boeheim broke down their win over the Devils and how he plans to contain Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin later this week in Memphis. He said the ASU game was much closer than the final score indicated and applauded the Devils for fighting back from several big deficits.
Schill Call it Quits - Curt Schilling announced his retirement earlier today-in typical Schill fashion, a blog on his website. Ash says he will miss the game itself, but not the travel or clubhouse drama that frequently followed him from team-to-team. He thinks he’s a lock for Cooperstown-citing 3 World Series championships and an 11-2 post-season record. Gambo thinks Schill has a good chance at HOF, but doesn’t feel he’s a lock. If “table-for-one” Schilling does make the Hall-of-Fame, which hat will he be wearing (Phillies, D-backs, or Red Sox)?
Tuesday we’ll be joined by D-backs’ skipper Bob Melvin and continue our March Madness coverage.
