Hee’s Baaack!

Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A

Gambo & Ash are now on Twitter (usernames Ash620/Gambo620 is you’d like to follow).  Ash is excited, even though he’s not sure what he’s doing yet.

Decisions, Decisions - John Calipari will be the new head coach at Kentucky.  People in Tucson won’t be happy to know that Coach Cal was set to go to Tucson, along with his entire staff including Josh Pastner, until the tradition-rich SEC school blew out Billy Gillespie and caught his eye.  Ash wonders if the latest hot name-Rick Pitino, will want to play second-fiddle to Calipari.  Does UA have what it takes (think $ sign) to lure Pitino away from Louisville?  Mark is reporting there is a new candidate - it’s Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel.  Both agree Capel is a much “sexier” hire than someone like Lon Kruger.  This is an extremely important hire, not only for UA, but the entire state.  Is this the biggest hire in recent memory?  Gambo thinks it’s the biggest one in at least the next decade.  We took calls.

Hee’s Baaack! - Tiger Woods is back and a in a big way winning The Bay Hill Classic over the weekend.  Ash knows no one in golf puts more time and effort into perfecting their craft like Tiger Woods.  Gambo thinks Tiger handles the pressure better than any one in any sport.  The Masters is just around the corner.  Is Tiger the favorite?  Gambo thinks he is, even after taking nine months off recovering from knee surgery.

Sheff’s Salad - Long-time slugger Gary Sheffield is out of work.  The Tigers waived the talented, yet sometimes troubled, veteran slugger to create more playing time for Marcus Thames.  The wildcard in all this is the fact that Sheff is sitting at 499 career homeruns.  500 dingers is usually a sure-fire case for Cooperstown.  Gambo says Sheffield is worth the risk, but free-agent Luis Gonzalez could be a better fit.  Ash thinks Sheff is a big upgrade over Gonzo, John isn’t so sure.

Don’t Want to Be Like Mike - Michael Vick wants back in the NFL, but Roger Goodell isn’t so sure he wants him back-at least not yet.  The NFL commissioner says Ron Mexico must “show remorse” for his actions before re-instatement will be considered.  Is this a double-standard?  The guys debated.  Plus, ripped Vick for thinking he can make “seven to ten million dollars a year” playing in the NFL.  Let’s be real about this.

Former Michigan State All-American offensive lineman and top draft pick Tony Mandarich discussed his rise, and eventual, fall from glory after years of steroid and substance abuse.  The Scottsdale resident has a new book out called, My Dirty Little Secret. He also talked about how he beat the NCAA drug testing just days before the 1988 Rose Bowl.
