Superman’s Kryptonite

Here’s what went down Wednesday on G&A…

Mark Asher returned this afternoon from illness.

Superman’s Kryptonite
…LeBron and the #1-seeded Cavs are on the verge of elimination following Tuesday night’s loss in Orlando.  In actuality, the series should be over-except for LBJ’s last-second Game 2 shot which, at the time, evened the series at 1-1.  The Cavs are having a tough time stopping the Magic’s versatile offense, particularly Dwight Howard.  Gambo thinks the solution is quite simple-put 4-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Ben Wallace on Superman.  It’s apparent Anderson Varejao can’t handle Howard’s strength and athleticism.  Ash thinks the bigger issue is “The Master of Panic” Stan Van Gundy has thoroughly out-coached NBA Coach of Year Mike Brown.

Fran-tic Message…The greatest quarterback in Minnesota Vikings history Fran Tarkenton spoke out recently about possible Vikes’ quarterback Brett Favre.  Here is one salvo… “I think it’s despicable. What he put the Packers through last year was not good. ”Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players. It just wasn’t about Brett Favre. In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre’s of the world so much, they think it’s about them. He goes to New York and bombs. He’s 39 years old. How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year [playing for] the Vikings, or I retire, and go play for the Packers? I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail.”  Gambo loves these comments because he’s sick of Favre and his me-first attitude.  Ash doesn’t agree with everything Tarkenton said, but knows Vikings’ fans would be wise to hear the underlying meaning behind his message.

Arizona State Director of Athletics LISA LOVE checked in for her weekly segment.  The #5 National Seed ASU baseball team will begin their hopeful trip to the College World Series Friday when they host Kent State at Packard Stadium, plus break down the amazing season for junior right-hander Mike Leake, and look ahead to tomorrow’s WCWS matchup between the defending champion Lady Sun Devils and Missouri in Oklahoma City.

We were joined by our ESPN baseball analyst TIM KURKJIAN.  He broke down the Dbacks recent improved play under new skipper A.J. Hinch, the amazing start of Zack Greinke who lowered his season ERA to 0.84 with a complete-game win over the Tigers last night, and the Dodgers who are running away in the NL West-even without Manny.

Rock the Vote!…The All-Star Game is just over 5 weeks away and guess who could be one of the starting outfielders for the National League?  The suspended Manny Ramirez of all people.  ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian is outraged by all this.  He believes MLB should do away with internet voting all together because the REAL baseball fans attend the games and know the players.  Gambo thinks this is an outrage and sends a terrible message if Man-Ram is allowed to play.  Ash knows the All-Star Game is a popularity contest and won’t lose sleep either way.  John thinks fans vote for their favorite players, more than the best players.  Mark then ripped him saying he votes for the Yankees starting lineup, anyway.  Do the fans hold the right to vote in the players they want or should a higher power (commissioner Selig?) step in and “make it right” for other players who haven’t been busted in the steroid circle.

We caught up with Cards’ quarterback KURT WARNER.  He shared his thoughts on his recent visit with President Obama, Anquan Boldin firing Drew Rosenhaus, the noticed maturity on and off the field of Matt Leinart, and how the second week of OTA’s are progressing in Tempe.  Warner is hopeful the organization can get a new deal done with Boldin and put this year-long power struggle to rest once and for all.

Follow the Leader?…Anquan Boldin is no longer represented by Drew Rosenhaus.  Will fellow Florida State star and Cards’ teammate Darnell Dockett follow suit?  Gambo thinks this would be in the best interest of Dockett who hasn’t gotten anywhere on a new deal with Rosenhaus at the helm.  Ash feels we could see a trickle-down effect hurting Rosenhaus’ status as the NFL’s “money maker” for some of the higher profile players around the league.

Thursday we’ll be joined by Cards’ wide receiver Steve Breaston and ASU junior ace Mike Leake.
