Here’s what went down Friday on Gambo & Ash…
Fitz gets dissed? While many think that Larry Fitzgerald is the best receiver in football, fellow NFL wideout Andre Johnson of the Houston Texans says that he’s got Fitz beat. The Cards host the Texans on Sunday night at sold-out University of Phoenix Stadium, so we may find out soon enough.
Same ol’ Dockett: Darnell Dockett says he’s playing for himself, the coaches and his teammates, but not the organization. It looks like the Cards’ star defensive tackle won’t make it even half of a season without complaining about his contract, after all. Gambo and Ash agree that the only person Dockett should be upset with is his agent, who told him to sign his 2007 deal.
Oops! Perennial All-Star Matt Holliday blows a late-inning opportunity for the St. Louis Cardinals after losing sight of a line drive and letting the ball hit him in the… “stomache.” After nearly blowing the NL West lead and looking terrible late in the season, the once-forgotten Dodgers are one win away from the NLCS.
Too Much, Too Soon? Why did Charlie Manuel over-manage yesterday against the Rockies in Game 2? Playing to win is one thing, but using three starters in one game has forced Manuel to use late-season addition Pedro Martinez in Game 3 in Colorado.
Former Diamondback outfielder and good friend of the show LUIS GONZALEZ joined us to share his thoughts on the playoffs and what he expects to see in the NL & ALDS this weekend. Gonzo says that, despite Ryan Franklin’s great season as the St. Louis Cardinals’ closer, he thinks the mental edge that John Smoltz brings warrants having Smoltz as the Cardinals’ postseason closer. Gonzo thinks this might have something to do with Charlie Manuel’s decision to have Pedro Martinez throw for the Phillies in game 3 of their series against the Rockies.
Your Reputation Precedes You: Rush Limbaugh has made a living making controversial comments, and one comment in particular may have some consequences on his future. The outspoken conservative has expressed interest in purchasing the St. Louis Rams, and a few NFL players have responded by saying that they would not play for a team owned by Limbaugh, primarily due to supposed racist comments made by Limbaugh about quarterback Donovan McNabb in 2003. Gambo and Ash think that if the sale goes through, the Rams wouldn’t have any trouble acquiring talented players, despite these recent comments.
World renowned sports handicapper BRANDON LANG checked in for his weekly segment to break down all the marquee college and NFL games this weekend. He likes Indianapolis big over Tennessee, Michigan plus 8 versus Iowa, the Seahawks plus 4 ½ against Jacksonville, Cleveland plus 6 against the Bills, and the Mercury minus 5 tonight in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals.
ESPN NFL analyst MARK SCHLERETH joined us to share his thoughts on Brett Favre’s big win over the Packers Monday night, PREVIEW the Texans-Cards game Sunday, discuss the health of Eli Manning, and how Michael Crabtree will help the 49ers for the remainder of the season.

Does anyone know who called into the show today and told G&A the story about Larry Fitzgerald giving up a chance to play golf with Tiger on his bye week?
