Gambo & Ash: September 20, 2007

Here’s what went down today on G&A

* The D-Backs keep winning, but so do the Padres, who are now only ½ game back in the NL West. The guys discussed how the bullpen picked up Doug Davis last night. G&A agree that Mark Reynolds is the future at third, which may signal the end of Chad Tracy.

* Mike Riley from Oregon State joined the show. The Beavers look to end long losing drought at Sun Devil Stadium.

* “The Bachelor” Jessie Palmer talked some college football - he’s now an analyst for ESPN. Jessie broke down the BCS conferences and life during and after “The Bachelor”.

* We were also joined by former ASU star, now Ravens’ Pro-Bowler Terrell Suggs. T-Sizzle is impressed with the new-look Cardinals’ offense and thinks Fitz-Anquan is better than TJ-Ocho Cinco.

* The guys discussed the best Sun Devils who have played or are playing in the NFL.

Tomorrow: Ron Jaworski - No Ash, just Gambo.

Gambo & Ash: September 19, 2007

Here’s what went down today on G&A

* Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin joined the show to discuss Micah Owings’ 2-hit shutout over the Giants last night. BoMel also admitted he made a mistake leaving Tony Pena in one batter too long in their heart-breaking loss on Monday. Melvin also applauded Doug Davis for his impressive 2nd half of the year and stepping up with the loss of Randy Johnson.

* Micah Owings also checked in to discuss the masterpiece at Chase Field and being the best-hitting pitcher in baseball.

* G&A discussed how there is no margin for error from here on out. The Padres and Phillies keep winning so the pressure is on. Barry Zito vs. Doug Davis tonight.

* G&A did smell what The Rock was cookin’ - Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson discussed his new movie, “The Game Plan,” playing for Dennis Erickson at Miami and the endless problems surrounding the WWE.

* Andrei Kirilenko wants out of Utah - posted a Russian blog saying he doesn’t want to report next week. Will the Jazz call the Suns and inquire about Shawn Marion? Who would this trade help more? The guys discussed and the callers shared their views - some were for it, others were not.

* ASU Athletic Director Lisa Love previewed ASU’s Pac-10 opener Saturday against Oregon State.

Tomorrow: Former ASU star, now Ravens’ Pro-Bowler Terrell Suggs

“The Bachelor” and ESPN CFB analyst Jessie Palmer

Oregon State head football coach Mike Riley

Gambo & Ash: September 18, 2007

Here’s what went down today on G&A

* Ash told the story of how he took an elementary school field trip to Arby’s. Ash later worked at the fast-food monster - foreshadowing? Gambo thinks so.

* The D-Backs drop a heart-breaker last night to the Giants - white-hot Padres are only 1 game back in the NL West. Gambo is now wavering on the D-Backs making the post-season and Gambo & Ash agree that Brandon Webb looks tired and has since his scoreless streak ended.

* We took calls on how the stretch run will play out.

* ESPN Baseball Insider Tim Kurkjian checked in for his weekly segment to discuss Jim Thome’s chances of reaching the HOF after hitting his 500th home run over the weekend.

* Donovan McNabb thinks black quarterbacks are criticized more than white ones. G&A think McNabb isn’t the QB he once was and was going to the race card unnecessarily. If he could win a title or two, the media would be more forgiving- except in Philly.

* ESPN College Football Analyst Mark May checked in to chat college football. USC sends statement to the rest of the country with a beatdown over Nebraska. Kentucky beats Louisville to remain perfect - Notre Dame still sucks.

* We took call on who the top dog is college football: LSU, USC or Oklahoma?

* Ash shared the story of the kid who died after playing video games for three straight days.

* OJ might be going to jail - forever.

Tomorrow: A Sports 620 KTAR record 718th straight remote - we’re actually at HOF Collectibles in Mesa.

Guests: The Rock, Bob Melvin, Lisa Love

Gambo & Ash: September 17, 2007

Here’s what went down today on Gambo & Ash:

* All hail the Cardinals (1-1), who beat Seattle in a game they would have lost last season.

* Gambo & Ash applaud the offensive line for opening huge holes for Edgerrin James - both agree Russ Grimm is putting his stamp on the offensive line.

* Gambo expects Lyle Sendlein to be the starter and the undrafted local boy could be a true “diamond in the rough” for the Red Birds.

* Cardinals running back Edgerrin James checked in to discuss his 128 yard, 1 touchdown performance yesterday in Glendale - he threw props to the o-line, as well.

* The Mercury beat Detroit yesterday to win the WNBA title -  Gambo & Ash discuss the celebration tomorrow in downtown Phoenix.

* Mercury forward Diana Taurasi joined the guys to discuss the win and discuss winning an NCAA title compared to a WNBA Championship.

* More problems down in The Old Pueblo for UA football as the ’Cats lose to New Mexico Saturday - today the news breaks that four players were busted for underage drinking. Gambo says Mike Stoops is in trouble if they don’t make a bowl - the schedule does not favor a winning record.

* The D-Backs salvage final game against the Dodgers and open a series tonight against the Barry Bonds-less Giants. Ash says Barroid is having foot problems because his feet won’t stop growing. Gambo is still confident the Snakes will make the post-season.
