Here’s what went down today on G&A
* Cardinals lose another heartbreaker - this time in D.C. against the Redskins. Ken Whisenhunt is under the microscope after calling for an Anquan Boldin run-pass option on the two-point conversion. The guys debate whether it was the right call. Gambo applauded Whiz and defended his decision. We took plenty of calls - some liked it, others didn’t.
* Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin joined the guys to discuss the play, the first half of the season and the team’s morale entering the bye week.

Here’s what went down today on G&A
* The guys discussed Manny Ramirez’s comments about him not being too concerned if the Red Sox lost in the ALCS. Gambo is appalled at Man-Ram. Gambo says he represents the Red Sox fan base and should hate to lose as much as the fans do. Ash says he doesn’t want to hear it from Manny because the fans help play his enormous salary.
*The Devils lose starting tailback Ryan Torain for the remainder of the year. Gambo still thinks the Devils have the backfield depth to overcome the loss of their best offensive player.
* ASU wide receiver Mike Jones joined the show and said the Devils have set themselves up for a successful season. He thinks Keegan Herring and Dimitri Nance can carry the load in Torain’s absence.
* We talked some college football with SI.com college football insider Stewart Mandel. Mandel likes the Devils to possibly win the Pac-10. Mandel also has published a new book out about the BCS.
* D-Backs GM Josh Byrnes joined the show to discuss the season that was and what lies ahead this off-season. Byrnes says the D-Backs will pursue some trades this winter.

* Bob Melvin joined the guys to discuss the playoffs and what should be an interesting off-season. BoMel defended his decisions in the Rocks’ series.
* Gambo & Ash discussed Conor Jackson’s future in Arizona. Gambo thinks the D-Backs can upgrade from CoJax at 1st. G&A agree that the Diamondbacks need to try to improve their roster, but keep their young core together.
* Lisa Love checked in to talk ASU football. The Sun Devils are on bye this week before their showdown next week against Cal at Sun Devil Stadium.
* Kobe Bryant is back on the trade block. G&A agree Chicago is the front-runner in the Kobe sweepstakes, but think the Suns could offer a sweeter deal with ‘Trix, LB and the Hawks’ pick next season. Iif the Lakers called, the Suns would have to listen.
* We were also joined by HOF QB Troy Aikman. The former Cowboy great shared his thoughts on the Cardinals new look under Ken Whisenhunt, a possible overseas Super Bowl and the chances the Patriots will lose a game this season.
* Ash is going to ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’ next month in Glendale. Gambo ripped him, but Ash responded by saying Gambo bumps Hannah Montana when driving to/from work.

Here’s what went down today on G&A
* The D-Backs’ season is over as the white-hot Rockies complete sweep last night at Coors Field. G&A agree Colorado’s amazing defense was key to punching their World Series ticket. Gambo thinks Conor Jackson’s good bat is outweighed by his terrible fielding. CoJax’s error opened the floodgates last night. Eric Byrnes did nothing in this series.
* G&A discussed what should be an interesting offseason for Josh Byrnes and the D-Backs brain trust.
* ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian checked in from the ALCS in Cleveland - Tim isn’t so sure the Rocks and D-Backs are locks for the postseason next year, but agrees with G&A that the future is bright for BoMel’s squad.
* PGA golfer and Valley resident Aaron Baddeley joined the show to preview the Fry’s Electronics Open which starts later this week in Scottsdale.
* The NFL trade deadline came and went and the Cards do nothing, but Big Red does sign Tim Hasselbeck - like I said, the Cards do nothing.

* Gambo & Ash discussed ASU debuting at No. 8 in the first BCS poll. The Devils are 7-0, going into the bye following Saturday’s blowout win over Washington.
* Ash loves the Devils’ balance offensively and Gambo is impressed with Dennis Erickson’s running game. Gambo gives Erickson an ‘A’ for his mid-season report card.
* The Cards lose to Carolina on Sunday in Glendale and, in the process, lose another quarterback. Everyone is waiting to hear how bad Kurt Warner’s left elbow is. G&A aren’t thrilled with the possibility of bringing in Tim Hasselbeck to back-up the back-up’s back-up, Tim Rattay.

* We were joined by TBS lead broadcaster Chip Carey, who is calling the series for TBS.

Three outta four ain’t bad.
I told you in my last blog that I love making predictions, but I am usually wrong when I do so. This time, I was right in 3 of 4 series and the one I missed – well, I couldn’t have been happier to get wrong. Yeah, I was the jackass who picked the Cubs to beat my beloved D-Backs - it’s called reverse psychology! So here we go with another round of predictions for the NL and AL Championship Series.

In the ALCS we have the two best teams in the American League facing off. Yes, Gambo I said two best teams. The Red Sox blew through the Angels like there was no tomorrow. They did it with solid pitching from Beckett and Schilling and big hits from Big Papi and Manny.
They’ve been here before and know what it takes to make it to the World Series, which is exactly why I am picking the Cleveland Indians to win it all. I love the pitching staff of Cleveland, well at least Sabathia and Carmona. They have a feared lineup, which I think will get to Boston’s pitching a bit. It should be a close series and probably will go pretty deep. I’ll take the Tribe in 6.

In the NLCS, I get to once again pick when my favorite team is in the series. It is great that the D-Backs are back in the NLCS for the first time since they won it all back in 2001 and I think the town is finally getting behind this young team. The Rockies on the other hand have never been this far in the playoffs and are riding a momentum wave like we have never seen before. Winners of 17 out of their last 18 games, let’s just say they are hot.
It might be interesting to see if the long layoff between series affects either team’s momentum. Let’s hope so for the Diamondbacks sake. The pitching advantage goes to Arizona, while the Rockies offense is far scarier than the D-Backs. I think this will be a series about offense and that leads me to my pick of Rockies in 6. I know, I know, “Ash, you suck! How could you pick against your own team? You are from here.” Hey, it worked picking against the D-Backs last round and did I also tell you I’m superstitious?
Enjoy the games!
