Here’s what went down Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A
Let it Go! - Reports say Jets’ quarterback Brett Favre may have leaked information about his former team, the Packers, to the Lions for game prep purposes. Gambo thinks it’s time for him to let go of his bitterness towards the Pack and the fact that they moved on without him. Ash doesn’t see this as much of a surprise. Packer cornerback Charles Woodson isn’t happy about it and neither are several of Favre’s ex-teammates. Technically, it’s not a violation of NFL rules, but G&A agree this is beyond unethical of #4.
Former Diamondback star and 2001 World Series hero Luis Gonzalez joined the guys to discuss the Phils-Rays World Series and share his thoughts on possibly returning to Arizona to finish his career-maybe as a fifth outfielder/part-time starter. Gonzo played last year with the Florida Marlins and said he is still “exploring all options” for 2009, including retirement.
Going Gonzo…again? - Luis Gonzalez says he wants to wear Sedona Red. Ash thinks there are plusses and minuses to this, but would be in favor of the move. His biggest question is will Dbacks’ fans accept Gonzo as a role player and not the star he was during his first tenure? Gambo likes the idea-especially with a lefty bat off the bench and so many young players on the roster for him to mentor. We took calls.
ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian checked in LIVE from St. Pete to discuss the Rays’ Cinderella run to the World Series and how they match-up with the National League champion Phillies. Game 1 is tomorrow night at Tropicana Field.
Our ESPN college football analyst Mark May discussed last weekend’s big games including top-ranked Texas’ thrashing of Missouri in Austin and shared his thoughts on the first BCS Poll which was released Sunday. MayDay thinks at least one “mid-major” will play in a BCS game this year.
Scheduling Conflict - G&A discussed how some power conference schools, most notably in the Pac-10, have stumbled in non-conference play this year against the likes of the Mountain West and WAC. G&A wonder why Pac-10 schools don’t follow the lead of Ohio State (sans USC this year) and Texas Tech and schedule cream puffs because conference play is tough enough as it is.

Gambo & Ash talked with Luis Gonzalez about the possibility of returning to Arizona and finishing his career with the Diamondbacks. Gonzo has made it known he wants to come back to Arizona. It is up to the organization if he would want him back.

Here’s what Monday on G&A…
The imperfect World Series is complete and last night’s ALCS had a perfect ending…for Gambo. Gambo loves the Rays, their upcoming ace/playoff closer David Price, and the fact that they sent his hated Red Sox home in heartbreaking fashion. Ash doesn’t expect the WS ratings to break any records. In fact he believes it will be one of the lowest rated in history. As for who will win. Gambo says TB in 6. Ash sees it the opposite way.
What a way for U of A to start their season. The Cats are 5-2 after an impressive win over Cal. Ash thinks it’s even more impressive than the one over #2 Oregon last year. After all, Dennis Dixon was hurt and had no business playing in that game. U of A plays USC next, and Gambo says there’s no chance that the Wildcats will win. He even offered to wear U of A gear in the event of an upset, but would not agree to Ash’s challenge of shaving his goatee should the Cats win.
Speaking of winning, how about another impressive one by Texas this weekend. The Longhorns now top the first BCS standings report, but Ash doesn’t believe they will for long. But that doesn’t mean Alabama will, either. In fact, Ash can see an upset on the horizon when the Crimson Tide meet up with Tennessee. Bama’, after all, seems to be just getting by these days.
Tuesday: The return of E. ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian previews the imperfect World Series.
Here’s what happend Friday on Gambo & Ash…
The Red Sox live on to fight on another day, and Gambo can hardly live with watching the highlights of last night’s amazing comeback/choke job at Fenway. Unlike some G&A aren’t buying the Red Sox making a miraculous comeback in the ALCS ala 04’ and 07’. In fact Ash is betting on a Rays win tomorrow, and Gambo is counting on the AL representative (no matter who that is) to beat the Phillies in the World Series.
The guys were joined by ESPN NFL Analyst Mark Schlereth. Schlereth talked about the Cardinals big win last week, the NFL fining players way to much and also previewed games for the upcoming weekend.

Gambo continues to roll in Pick The Pros and now will only give his picks for $19.95 at 1-800 …. oh wait he decided to give them up. But he does promise that the 800 number is coming. In case you didn’t know he is 14-4. Although, if he does have a bad week this could be the week, his favorite game of the week no matter who the quarterback is is Dallas at St. Louis but because of the uncertainty of Tony Romo’s status it was off the board. Ash feels a good weekend with his picks and isn’t worried about climbing back into the race. Producer E is in Texas watching college football so Farmer Rod produced the show and only had two minutes to make his picks. He managed and went with one home team and took two on the road. The Week 7 picks are…
ASH - Panthers (-3), Titans (-8), Patriots (-3)
Gambo - Steelers (-9.5), Titans (-8), Chargers (+1)
E - Colts (-1), Bills (-1), Broncos (+3)
The producers could be making ground as Farmer Rod went against Ash on MNF and against Gambo in the game up in northern New York.

Here’s what happened Thursday on G&A:
One half of the imperfect series is complete. The Philadelphia Phillies reach the World Series for the first time since 1993, as they try to end a 25-year drought of major championships for “The City of Brotherly Love.” On the flip side was the quick demise of the Dodgers and perhaps, the demise of several Hall of Fame careers. Greg Maddux is sure thing for Cooperstown, and G&A sure hope he retires. Once a dominant front line starting pitcher, Maddux has been regulated to mop up duty in the postseason. Jeff Kent’s post-season role was hardly prominent as well, but as the all-time leading HR hitter at 2B, G&A agree he’s probably hall worthy. How much was Manny Ramirez’s short run with the Dodgers worth? Six years $150 million according to SI’s Jon Heyman (via the ultra ambitious Scott Boras). Then again Boras did get 7-years $120 for Carlos Beltran, whose situation in 2004 is very analogous to Ramirez‘s right now. Aside from the fact Ramirez is friggin’ 36!
Equally outrageous is the over legislation occurring back East these days. No, not there. Actually, the NFL is handing out fines faster than Congress is corporate bailouts. Troy Polamalu of the Steelers has been the most outspoken on the issue, saying the NFL is turning into a “pansy” league. G&A and many callers echo those concerns. Given the subjective nature of watching hits in live motion, the guys agree the NFL has gone way overboard.
Sports handicapper Brandon Lang joined G&A for his weekly segment. Lang likes Penn State and USC by a margin of “as much as they want it to be” against Michigan and Washington State respectively. One week after returning to respectability by beating up NE, Lang says San Diego will stumble on the road again against Buffalo.
Last but not least, Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik joined G&A two days ahead of his rematch with Bernard Hopkins. Pavlik is most famous for his two wins against Jermain Taylor, who incidentally beat Hopkins twice.
Friday: brief show heading into Suns-Nuggets. ESPN’s Mark Schlereth will join the guys.

Here’s what went down Wednesday on G&A
Short show today before Suns’ basketball in Atlanta.
Missing Manny - The Red Sox are struggling. David Ortiz has one RBI in the post-season. Jacoby Ellsbury has been benched. Although Jason Bay is batting .400, he is getting little help around him. G&A discussed why Boston misses Manny Ramirez more than they’ll ever admit. Although Man-Ram’s bat would help, the Red Sox pitching hasn’t shown up since Game 1 against the Rays - case in point, Game 4 last night at Fenway. Gambo thinks it’s time for catcher Jason Varitek to retire. We took calls.
Troy’s Take - Former Cowboy great Troy Aikman was a member of the FOX broadcast team who called Sunday’s Cowboy-Cardinal game in Glendale. Analyst and former Cardinal Boomer Esiason said Aikman was obviously biased towards his former team and didn’t appreciate how he called the action. The guys discussed if Aikman was one-sided and, if he was, could you almost accept it because he’s one of the best quarterbacks ever to play for Dallas?
Arizona State Director of Athletics Lisa Love checked in to discuss the Devils’ 28-0 loss to USC last weekend in Los Angeles and basketball media day tomorrow at Wells Fargo. ASU was picked 2nd in the Pac-10 and 15th in country by one popular publication.
Shut up, Shaq - Shaq called out the Spurs for their “Hack-a-Shaq” method Gregg Popovich and the Spurs’ coaching staff used last year in the playoffs. He promises to “make them pay.” Gambo wonders why The Daddy waited this long to make this “threat” and feels he should be more concerned about trying to find a way to shut down Tim Duncan, instead of shutting up Popovich. Ash knows this is definitely too little, too late. We took calls.
Thursday: We’ll be joined by middleweight champion and the pride of Youngstown, Ohio Kelly Pavlik and sports handicapper Brandon Lang.
Here’s what went down Tuesday on G&A
Just a Matter of Time - Pacman Jones was suspended (again) today by Roger Goodell. Jones will have to sit out at least the next four games. Ash wonders if he’s really worth all the problems and feels the only reason he’s in the news is because his off-the-field actions, not his play between the lines. Gambo does feel Jones is a good cornerback, but has burned any bridges between him and Cowboy owner Jerry Jones. Both don’t know if Jones will ever play in the NFL again. Is the CFL in his future? G&A don’t believe the idea is that far-fetched.
Coyotes’ rookie center Kyle Turris joined the guys to discuss their amazing 2-0 start to the season and their upcoming 3-game road trip. Could this be the year the Desert Dogs finally make the playoffs?
Our ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian checked in from Fenway Park to discuss the Rays pounding of Jon Lester in Game 3 and to preview tonight’s Game 4. He knows if Tampa wins tonight, a repeat for the Sox is highly unlikely with the series shifting back to Florida. Kurkjian was also surprised at the Phillies’ come-from-behind last night at Dodger Stadium.
What’s happening? - The defending champion Red Sox are on the ropes. The upstart Rays have won 2 straight and can go up 3-1 with a win tonight at Fenway. Gambo (obviously) likes to see the Sox struggling and wonders how Jacoby Ellsbury can fall into such a deep slump (zero for his last twenty) during the post-season.
ESPN college football analyst Mark May broke down Texas’ thrashing of then top-ranked Oklahoma in Dallas, Okie State’s upset of Missouri, USC’s shutout of ASU at The Coliseum, Clemson’s sudden firing of Tommy Bowden yesterday. MayDay was extremely impressed with Florida’s big win over LSU in Gainesville.
Another Week of Upsets - G&A are amazed at the high number of upsets each and every week in college football. Ash was amazed at how Florida handled LSU at The Swamp. Gambo thinks Michigan is the laughing stock of the football world following another embarrassing home loss - this time to Toledo. Ash doesn’t feel Texas is BCS title worthy - even after Saturday’s upset of OU mainly because of a tough schedule ahead (Mizzou, Okie State, @ Texas Tech).
Wednesday: short show before Suns’ basketball. We’ll be joined by middleweight champion Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik and ASU AD Lisa Love.

Here’s what went down Monday on G&A
Break up the Birds! - The Cards are the talk of the town and, the NFL, for that matter - after yesterday’s 30-24 overtime victory over Dallas. G&A are impressed with the grit Ken Whisenhunt’s club - fighting back when it looked like all was lost against Dallas. Gambo doesn’t think the Red Birds need a big-time running game if they continue to score points with Kurt Warner’s arm. Ash thinks the Red Birds are going to run away with the division and thinks going into the bye 4-2 is huge.
Going Gonzo? - Gambo thinks the Red Birds should make a run at disgruntled tight end Tony Gonzalez who wants out of Kansas City. He thinks it’s a trade that could put this team on the fast-track to…gulp…post-season success. Ash would love the deal, but only if the price is right. G&A think the emergence of Steve Breaston could signal an end to Anquan Boldin’s career in Arizona. The biggest key might be keeping Warner healthy.
Another Beatdown - The Sun Devils were blown out for the third straight game Saturday, getting shutout 28-0 to USC in Los Angeles. The Sun Devil defense stepped up forcing 5 turnovers, but Rudy Carpenter and the offense failed to turn those mishaps into any points. G&A can see this season slipping away…quickly. Ash doesn’t see this season getting that much better - even with the schedule lighting up a bit. Gambo feels if the Devils don’t beat Oregon next weekend, it might be time to switch quarterbacks and build toward 2009.
The guys caught up with Cards’ wide receiver Steve Breaston. Breaston caught a team-high 8 passes for 102 yards including an 11-yard touchdown catch from Kurt Warner, the first of his pro career, as the Red Birds beat Dallas 30-24 in overtime yesterday in Glendale. He says the Cards are for real and the bye week couldn’t have come at a better time after an emotional/physical game against the Cowboys.
Tuesday we’ll be joined by ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian and college football analyst Mark May.

In Pick The Pros producer E has been strong recently. Gambo continues to roll and still has a comfortable lead. Ash has fell behind by a half of a game and hopes to get back up near the top so he doesn’t have to listen to Gambo talk about how good he is for the entire season. This Here are the guys’ picks for the Week…
ASH - San Francisco (+5), Jacksonville (+3.5), New England (+5)
GAMBO - Arizona (+5), NY Jets (-5.5), Chicago (-3)
E - New Orleans (-7), NY Jets (-5.5), NY Giants (-7.5)
