Bill Clinton vs. Reality – As Usual…
In an interview with Good Morning America (GMA) today, Former President Bill Clinton felt it necessary to give his opinion on how President Obama has handled the Economy during Obama’s first month in office – giving Obama an “A” grade for the job he’s done. However, Clinton also believes that Obama isn’t being optimistic enough, and told GMA, “I just want the American people to know that he’s confident that we are gonna get out of this and he feels good about the long run.” Now to some degree this is a valid point, President Obama DID use the word “crisis” 25 times in a 22 minute speech on Home Foreclosures at Dobson High School in Mesa (kind of sounds like Al Gore giving a speech on Global Warming), but Obama capped off his speech by saying, “if we move forward with purpose and resolve – with a deepened appreciation for how fundamental the American Dream is and how fragile it can be when we fail in our collective responsibilities – then I am confident we will overcome this crisis and once again secure that dream for ourselves and for generations to come.” Wow, what a pessimist. I’m of course, being facetious… but it didn’t stop there for Former President Clinton.
Continuing to ignore and deny that he was ranked 13th on a TIME Magazine list of people to blame for our current economic downturn, Clinton had this little tidbit of revisionist history for GMA, “I personally believe, based on my experience over the years with the economy, that if we moved aggressively on this home problem a year and a half ago, even a year ago, as much as 90 percent of the current crisis could have been avoided.” Remember, this is the man that signed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (aka the “Financial Services Modernization Act”) in 1999, which essentially expanded the Government’s role in and diminished regulations of the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). The CRA was designed to encourage institutions to “help” meet the credit needs of the communities in which they operate, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods. Clinton’s Financial Services Modernization Act (FSMA) made the already idiotic concept of the CRA far worse by weakening the CRA’s regulations. I know, it sounds like a contradiction, but if you take a stupid concept that has its own rules and regulations, and you weaken those rules and regulations the stupidity of the concept expands – that’s what I’m getting at, and that’s what happened when Bill Clinton signed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Therefore, Clinton is once again living in a fairytale. Many of the horrendous home loans (post-FSMA) that people invested in were established well before “a year and a half ago,” and it will take much longer to reverse the damage. Bill Clinton saying this is the equivalent of Former President George W. Bush claiming that Obama needs to work on his speech delivery and word pronunciation. It’s asinine.
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican, and that I tend to believe if you’re a politician, you’re a snake by default. However, I’m trying to figure out where Bill Clinton is coming from. Why is he constantly giving interviews and critiquing current Administrations? Here’s my theory, as convoluted and cliché as it might be: Bill Clinton is a narcissist. He sees the amount of attention, popularity, and quite frankly “love” Obama is receiving, and he’s a bit jealous. Not to the point of sabotaging President Obama by any stretch of the imagination, but to the point of giving interviews and offering opinions almost to say without saying, “Hey, remember me? Remember how popular I was? And how you all loved ME so much?” I know, it’s absurd… but I guess I just can’t wrap my head around the unprofessional inanity of this man. Though, I tend to say that about ALL politicians (especially over the past few years). If President Obama is smart, he won’t acknowledge the Former President’s remarks, and will just continue doing what he’s doing – allowing US to determine what letter grade he deserves.

Remember those big hooks like we used to see on Bugs Bunny cartoons when someone was bombing on stage, someone in the wings would extend it out and grab the person by the neck and drag them off stage? America needs to grab Bill with that hook and pull him off stage. This is not his time. Sure, former presidents are frequently asked for their opinions on issues and they gladly chime in. But Bill isn’t just another former president. He is a former president whose wife just happens to be in the cabinet. If Obama is Samantha Stephens, Bill is Gladys Kravitz always looking in and telling Abner (Hillary) what he should do. The medis needs to realize Bill is so 90’s, they should realize he helped get us into this mess and we really shouldn’t care what he thinks. We should let him evolve into a Mrs. Haig, Jr or a Mrs. Muskie or a Mrs. Baker not a Mrs. Kravitz.
