The Phoenix Suns are a mediocre 28-22 and currently (as I type this) 8th in the Western Conference standings. Someone has to be at fault more than the others.
Robert Sarver:
- Selling draft picks for money, including Rajan Rondo, Luol Deng, and giving up two first round picks for the Seattle Sonics to take Kurt Thomas’ contract off the books.
- Departures of Brian Colangelo and Mike D’Antoni:
Steve Kerr:
- Feud with Shawn Marion, even if Marion’s demands were unreasonable.
- Feud with Mike D’Antoni, even if D’Antoni vision of basketball was a bit unbalanced.
- Hiring of Terry Porter, even if his vision of defensive oriented basketball didn’t mesh with the majority of the current roster.
Mike D’Antoni:
- Brief tenure as GM, which included the signing of Marcus Banks
- Steadfast refusal to extend his bench, which led to Steve Nash wearing down
- Steadfast commitment to offensive oriented system, which led to feud with Steve Kerr and his departure from Phoenix:
Shawn Marion:
- First member of “Big 3” that openly questioned role, and/or the Suns financial commitment to him.
- Basically punched his own ticket out of town with his unrealistic contract demands, ones that have not been embraced by his new team, the Miami Heat, who may well deal him again.
Amare Stoudemire:
- Little to zero defensive improvement
- Little to zero composure in key situations
- Helped push Mike D’Antoni out the door…Until he wanted him back, and then wanted the other coach out the door, and now he wants out…But not before throwing Steve Nash more under the bus.

Steve Kerr is to BLAME!!!
Mike Dantoni turned the Suns into the most exciting team in the NBA, sold out US Airways Center with a season ticket waiting list, won over 50 games and 4 straight playoffs,
WHY DO YOU RUN HIM OUT OF TOWN?????
Id say Steve Kerr but hes just a pawn.. Definitly Sarvers fault. Its been downhill ever since Colangelo left for Toronto.
Where is the all of the above option…
I am one of the few that thought we should have never blown up the D’Antoni suns. I don’t care if they ever won a championship. For 82 games they were fun to watch. Playoff basketball is a bore. Just think if we would have kept Marion and made the deal this year for Jay Rich. Wow that would have been fun with Mike at the helm. We might have hit 175 a couple games…
Get rid of kerr, porter, egor, cartwright and move up Alvin Gentry to coach and bring back mark ivaroni because he will make amare better. This is wat i think Alvin and Mark still have the Mike Dantoni system and a big plus is that Alvin Gentry and Mark Ivaroni have good relationship with Nash and Amare. And try see if we can trade Shaq and Barbosa to dallas for Dampier and Howard..
I agree that Porter had to be fired, but I don’t think he was necessarily to blame. The blame falls on everyone.
Kerr, Sarver, Stoudemire, and even D’Antoni to some extent for admittedly making a hasty decision that was probably not the right one
